I hope that when the time comes that the Bison will pay the $250,000 initiation /entrance fee in one shot. While there is something to be said for the time value of money (Gateway letting us pay it in three annual interest free installments), I don't think it would hurt at all to prove to the Gateway and the rest of the FCS world that the Bison are a "have" program and not just be perceived as one.
While some other teams in the Gateway seem to be sweating a single plane trip a year to the Dakotas, I think it would bode well for NDSU if one day we are officially in the Gateway and the next week a check for +$35,000 ($250,000/7teams ) instead of $12,000 (spread over 3 years) shows up on their doorstep, kind of like Pavlov's dog. ;)
On a side note, can one assume YSU and Western Kentucky DIDN'T pay an initiation fee when they came into the league? Fellow Gateway members kind of acted like this initiation/entrance fee was a new thing. Correct me if I am wrong.
