Thanks for that link.

Another interesting stat: 4TH-DOWN Conversions
NDSU was 2 for 2. Opponents were only 5 for 16. (Thanks GSU)

How about this:

NDSU Defense only allowed 6.75 points per game in the playoffs. Defense DOES win championships. HOW BOUT DAT BISON DEFENSE!

And SHSU went for it at least 3 times if not 4 or 5 (lost count at the end of the game?) and don't think they made it once?

They went for it twice in the same drive, made it the first time by maybe a yard, missed it the second time.

It is an impressive stat.

My favorite is that the final 3 teams averaged 39.14 (SHSU), 37.31 (GSU), and 35.17 points per game BEFORE facing the Bison....total of 111.62, and put up a grand total of 13. Just ridiculous!

Yeah...no kidding about GSU. The game would have had a different complexion if they had kicked a fieldgoal or two early on.

We still piss-pounded them.

FBS

I thought we were 2nd going into the NC game. First in scoring D, but second overall to SHSU-->no?!

My favorite that I really didn't realize throughout this playoff run but is normally reminiscent of championship teams is time of possession, and especially in the fourth quarter. Time of possession was about equal throughout the game, but in the 4th quarter on average NDSU had the ball for almost 10 minutes. I did not realize we had that extreme of an advantage during those games.

Due to NDSU's defensive performance, SHSU dropped from FCS's #1 scoring offense to #4.

What was our defense on defending 4th downs? I think every game we stopped the other team on at least 1 4th down.

My gosh! My guess is that SHSU wouldn't have been the #1 offense if they'd of had to play in the MVFC.

Overall, the opponents were 5 of 16 on 4th down conversions. JMU converted 1 of 4; Lehigh was 1 of 3; GSU was 2 of 5; SHSU was 1 of 4. Great 4th down stops by the Bison D.

and I would guess one of GSU's conversions was the fake punt.

And a majority against SHSU seem to have been 4th and shorts (less than 3 yards).

Yeah, and a few of these were late in the game when it was already in hand. EVERY single playoff game early in the first half, our opponent had the ball deep in our territory and went for it on 4th and lost. I thought that this was one of the most galvanizing, non-stat-related reasons why we were able to dominate so much on D for every game. Set the tone early, SHOW them that it's not going to be that easy. Honestly, I was VERY surprised Sam Hou made the same mistake after the first 3 teams failed at it. Almost as if they were too smug to think that they would be met with the same result.

Well 7887 is interesting because it's palindromic (I've noticed that numbers like that are usually divisible by 11*, btw.)
Got nothing for 4534. What are they? Attendance numbers for the D2 and D3 championships?

* Edit: Looks like if the palindrome has an even number of digits, it's divisible by 11... odd number of digits? Not so much.

Yeah, I don't think it's that either. Just speculating that it could be total yds in some other category, for some other team...

Absolutely awesome! I was doing a jag bomb with a Sam Houston fan at 3rd Base after the game and I said "I can't believe we gave up 6 points to you guys. Your offense sucked" ..I was being sarcastic and he didn't get it....he looked at me like.. are you kidding me? Maybe you had to be there.

I looked up the attendances and D2 was 7276 (looked like a good crowd on TV though) and D3 was 3784 so that wasn't it.

One more stat that really jumped out at me was the number of plays our opponents ran in comparison to us. Our opponents ran 65 more plays during the playoffs than we did. I was stunned when I saw that! On average, any given team is going to run about 65 offensive plays.....so, as impressive as our defense was during the 4 playoff games, they actually squeezed about 5 games worth of plays in during the playoffs. Now how impressive do those stats look if you divide all those numbers by 5 instead of 4???? Wow, absolutely mind boggling how well that defense played.

Good point. I'm guess the boys in charge of strength and conditioning at old SU would love to see this fact.

Very good point. Looks like our D is EVEN BETTER than the ridiculous stats indicate. Didn't seem like it could be possible. Perhaps that should put our D's Massey rating into the top 10 for BCS schools?
