My wife and I talked about this very subject last evening. We are planning in the next couple of years, to retire to the Loveland/Fort Collins area and so we'd make the trip to not only root on the Bison but also house hunt.

I love this team and the people in this area, but my joints are telling me to seek a location that normally has warmer winter pastures. Hopefully by the time we move, the Bison Football TV Network will have been created!

Assinine statement.

I was born and grew up there, in Longmont, through to when I was a freshman in high school. My dad commuted to work in Loveland, my mother to the University of Colorado, Boulder.

As I remember, people were more friendly back then.

Are 50-by-50-feet spots that may park ONE vehicle within the tailgate

Both the general-public parking lots and Ram Town open three hours prior to kickoff. Tailgate parties must conclude 30 minutes prior to kickoff and may resume for 90 minutes after the game (but please note that tables and tents provided by CSU will not be available for postgame tailgates).

No kegs are allowed and beer must be 3.2.

Pfft.

Q. When the average North Dakotan moves to Colorado, what do you get?
A. Somebody with a good education and good work ethic who isn't a criminal or a dumbass who makes their neighborhood a better place and just generally contributes to the community. Just ask Minnesota how terrible all the North Dakotans in the Twin Cities are.

Instead of worrying about North Dakotans coming to Colorado and making the place better looking and smarter, why don't you get on Aspen's case and tell them not to bus their homeless people to North Dakota in the middle of freaking winter?

^Only 33% joking. :)

I might just move to Colorado now just to piss you off.

I went to the WYO/CSU game this year and there weren't many CSU fans there. It was a cold day and they were at the end of a horrible season, but I expected better when they were playing their arch rivals. The NDSU game will obviously be played in better weather and there will be some excitement with their new coaching staff, but there is plenty of potential for us to have a great NDSU atmosphere at an away stadium if we show up like we should. I'll be there with several others!

Yet again an example of moron do gooders making rules that do not understand anything. In their quest to control drunkeness, they are pusing tailgaters to consume hard liquor in shots or mixed drinks instead of beer where the volume holds you back......

Count Dad and I in. We had been talking already before the title game about which road games we'd be going to next season and thought since UNI was just a few weeks after this game, that it wasn't likely we'd be doing both. Then we drove 18 hours to Texas and figured if we'd do that, or take a train 22 hours out to Spokane, then why not head to CO? And now we're national champions and there is no way I'm missing any big games next season. CSU, UNI and USD are no doubters. I have an uncle in Boulder who would probably go to the game with us, and we'd probably bring my uncle from Fargo, and another uncle could come in from San Diego (punted for the Bison in the 60's). They are all my mom's brothers and this could be a nice reunion with them since it would be the first time I'd seen all three of them together since my moms funeral. Go Bison!!!

I have a buddy who went to the MN/CSU game a number of years ago and he said the drinking during the tailgating was epic, beer cans near the gate were 6-10 inches deep as everyone had to have "just one more" before going in and then they'd just drop the empty as they hit the gate.

Similar to next (this?) years NDSU game, it was early in the season when CSU was still optimistic about their chances. I'm also guessing its one of the few times (if ever) that a Big Ten team has ever visited them, keep in mind, I think Mason may have still been the coach so MN wasn't the toilet its been the last 5 years.

Needless to say, I'll be there. Flights to Denver are cheap (thank you Southwest) and Colorado makes some great beers (not Coors) which makes the trip all the more worthwhile.

Love to, except it's 79.24 miles to my house (according to Mapquest). I will, however, keep myself available to bring extra stuff (chairs, tables, etc) that people don't wanna drag with (what I can fit, anyway).

I posted in a thread a few months ago about all the microbreweries (and of course the Anheuser-Busch plant nearby). Lots of them to tour. I'll try to remember to put up another list as the time draws closer. I'm already looking forward to it...

I just looked at last year's attendance. It was near 30,000 for its first couple games and then dropped to about 16,000 after they lost 3 or 4 in a row and were 3-3 or so on the season. The first games last year were UNC, CU, San Jose St and Boise. Easy to understand the crowds for UNC, CU and Boise. Not sure what it will be like for us coming to town, probably not real high unless it is their first home game of the season. I dont follow CSU's football much so not sure what to really expect for their own crowd. I'm sure we'll have a few thousand from the sounds of it. I think it will be a yellow game for us also - pretty sure they were green at home in the stands.

I got you beat Bri-Dog, only 56.8 miles from my place, but that will probably change between now and game time. I might have some extra tailgating stuff as well. By the sounds of it tailgating is a hassle up there almost - will have to investigate further with someone who knows the lay of the land up there.

I like the way we've scheduled our FBS opponenets. Everyone of them has been a regional opponent and a decent car trip for all involved. It not only allows regional recruits to see our results but enhances attendance. I mean we could be the like who and travel to fresno but how much fandemonium would go with that?

After managing to finally figure out how to navigate their fanboard (ramnation.com), I found a prediction something along the lines of 41-10, CSU. Very much doubt a 3-9 team even in the FBS (much less the bottom of the MWC) drops 40 on what should be another great defense next season.

I wonder if Tim Brewster is still looking for a coaching gig? Sounds like some of these fans would love a guy like him.

According to Wikipedia, Hughes Stadium is one of the few in the nation that serves beer during football games.

Nice! Less time crunch in making sure you drank enough for the 3 hour game without getting a hangover.

I am definitely in, maybe flying, maybe driving.

Where is the best place to stay? It looks like the stadium is out in the middle of nowhere, so where is the entertainment district? Minimal driving is always preferred.

I think the answer is: If you want a good seat, ALWAYS buy your own. Always. If you don't mind sitting in a far away section, try to get the allotment. And yes I realize CSU doesn't have a big stadium so it won't be as big of a deal, but still, allotment tickets usually always suck pretty hard.

It's not that far fetched from an FBS team to think that. Didn't New Mexico put up 45 against Sam Houston?? I'm too lazy to look but Bohl's teams have only given up 40+ a few times and I believe the last one was UNI a few years ago.

Agreed. I-80 in Nebraska is no different from I-29 in North/South Dakota. It just takes a lot of caffeine (and an iPod hookup with at least a few hundred songs) to be up for the drive.

It's a 12 hour drive or so (depending on your speed) from Fargo to Denver. Caffeine is definitely needed at a few spots on that drive. There is a great wake up call in very western Nebraska on I-80 right before you take I-76 toward Denver (pig farm with one amazing aroma).

A more scenic and enjoyable route is to head west on I94, drop down into the Spearfish, SD/Black Hills area, navigate through the Hills (not too difficult), drop down into Lusk, WY (pretty cool little town), head west from there over to I(whatever #), then south into Cheyenne, and continue south to Ft. The hotspots are in downtown Ft Collins. As far as I know there are no hotels in that area. The Hilton is probably the closest, and is just on the south side of campus. Most of the other places are either east of Ft Collins a couple of miles (along I-25) or in the newer area of Ft Collins, which is the SE section of the city.

I lived in Fort Collins for 3 years and definitely old town buts is very much a college scene. Worlds best pizza is Beau Jo's at the corner of College and Mountain. Coopersmiths is great - homemade beer. Other parts of town that are good are off Harmony Road - Jacksons Sports Bar is good and a place a bunch of Vikings fans (if there are any left) hang out. Austins is great food and locally owned as well. There is nothing by the stadium but there is great tailgating and at least when I lived there they served beer at the games. Obviously, New Belgium is there - maker of fat tire - and they have free beer on Saturdays.

In terms of hotels - Fort Collins Marriot isn't great but probably as good as you'll find. Armstrong for those that like rooms like the HoDo. If you are feeling adventurous, the Stanley hotel is world famous (who hasn't seen Dumb and Dumber) located in Estes Park in the heart of Rocky Mountain National Park - 40 miles from the stadium.

Colorado State fans aren't great but they are usually excited at the beginning of the season. All the students shake their keys the whole game and it gets very annoying. If we played them in November, we could literally take the place over but they'll probably have a decent crowd. You'll be impressed with the tailgate. The weather should be awesome and the view with the stadium right up against the moutain is pretty cool.

Hope that helps. Go Bison.

I read CSU's tailgate policy but can't find much online about the situation down there. Does anyone have any insight other than it will cost $100 to be in their sanctioned lot?

And lastly-considering they have roughly the same colors, will there be a preferred Bison fan "color" for this game?

I'm starting to think there's an epidemic of naive arrogance and self-superiority amongst the fan bases of non-BCS FBS programs. Colorado State usually averages less than 25,000 per game, and today they released renderings of their proposed new stadium that would seat about 43,000. And most of the Ram fans are saying that 43K wouldn't be enough, and they want at least 50,000. That's like if NDSU in our current condition (18K+ per game) released renderings of a new stadium seating 32,000 and all of us would be saying "We need at least 40,000 seats!!"

I understand addressing the concern of underbuilding for the future (like how they underbuilt with no expansion in mind for the Fargodome in 1992) but there is a point where the hubris goes too far.

Really, really sucked that they are fixing the airport that weekend as I could have gone for free and not had to drive. (By the way, I love to drink on the journey too, just that I do it on the plane and it is a hell of lot faster.) I don't like driving and you'll never get me to drive to a Bison game more than 400 or so miles away. That's what planes are for.

I think they have the potential to draw 50k if they moved over to the Big 12 so their reasoning makes sense but they should make it expandable and start smaller

Getting pumped for this trip. We are leaving after work on Wednesday for the Black Hills. Going to do some tourist type crap Thursday morning and get to Fort Collins Friday afternoon looking for trouble.

Just remember that prostitution has been illegal in Deadwood for nearly 30 years.

(caution, thread drift alert)

Although I'd probably go to a tour of any brewery at any time, New Belgium is a brewery that is kind of being left in the dust. Your thoughts?

Put in my request for 4 tix. Should be a fun bus ride down there with several brewery tours and hopefully a victory!

Probably because GT's philosophy is to schedule 1A games that are regional and ones that we have a chance on winning.

This year's and next year's teams might have a chance of winning against the "big boys" but in most years playing teams like OK, Ohio State, USC or teams like that, we would most likely get handled pretty easily.

Why do you say that?

Fat Tire, great amber, maybe the one of the best. As a brewery now-a-days, do you want to hang your hat on an amber? I guess I would say "no." The Ranger is a good IPA, too, but nothing special. I just don't see them doing anything along the lines of what some of the others are doing. Look at Stone, or Russian River. Or even locally to New Belguim, Oskar Blues is much better IMO. They are doing innovative and daring things with their beers that gives them more intrigue, and frankly, more taste.

Surly is a great example of a brewery that has probably been around no where near as long as New Belguim, but they are gaining more notoriety because of their limited releases like the Abrasive DIPA, and of course the Darkness.

In this day and age, a craft brewery is usually judged first by their IPA, then their top Imperial. What is New Belguim's best limited release beer? If they have one, I don't know about it, and I think that says something.
