I doubt it will get much special attention. It will be mentioned the morning of the game as are the D2, D3, and NAIA games. There will probably be some promos on ESPN and ESPN2 leading up to the game. It will get mentioned with highlights on Sportscenter that night. If something extraordinary happens it could get even more play.

Like I said, ESPN and the national media outlets will whore out the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl 10x more than the FCS Championship game. I don't like it, you don't like it, but that's what reality is. Reality is NDSU or SHSU would beat the bottom third of the teams in the bowl games and give a good game with the middle third. The NCAA does a poor job promoting the other DI Subdivision. And DI FCS is not small college ball like NAIA, DIII and DII.

Somebody should send Van Pelt an e-mail with this video link and ask for his support of the Bison in this years championship game. Explain the Bison lost to eventual champion EWU in overtime last year. Ask him to pimp playoff DI football.......show some Bison clips in the dome, Bison 5-3 against FBS in last 6 years, mention how the playoff game is sold out, etc.

What do you expect from ESPN ? Something that absolutley drives me nuts is when they run the scores of top 25 teams (football or basketball) ad nauseam when your looking for a certain score that's either not an FBS top 25 team of an FCS team. I don't get it, do they think their only veiwers are fans of those top 25 teams. It's like it's in a continous loop.

You make a good point. Lately they seem to be just promoting top-25 only. I had to wait as long of a time for the Goopher score on the BottomLine when watching the ABC PrimeTime game every week this fall as I had to wait for the Bison score (I didn't get ESPN in Canada). I can't imagine why ESPN would even not give the time of day for fan bases of rich-tradition, power BCS programs who may not necessarily be ranked that week.

It feels like there is potential for the FCS to be a whole new animal. With the right marketing techniques ESPN could turn it into something that would garner a strong following. This may just be my positive outlook since I have to be an FCS fan right now but I see potential!

This is true, very true. We play solid defense, but not overwhelming. There is absolutely nothing fancy or really explosive about our offense, and our special teams are solid, but again, not incredibly dynamic or game-changing.

We are just a methodical, disciplined football team with many very good, but not necessarily great, players.

Agreed. Focus on the good. The truth is that nobody nationally cares with the exception of die hard fans of other solid FCS programs. Why does this surprise/bother people so much? It reminds me of the story about Dan Rather's particularly tone deaf comment made while eating his daily lunch at the Waldorf Astoria or wherever and wondering out loud how Reagan won the election since "nobody I know voted for him".

We are already one of FCS's best fanbases. As impressive as that is given our short history here, it says just as much about FCS fanbases nationally as it does about us. If that surprises you don't let it continue to surprise you. If it bothers you, pick an SEC team to cheer for. You'll get all the publicity you want.

SHSU played Western Illinois the first game of their season. It was September first score was 20-6 in favor of SHSU. It was a little too early in the year to make a fair comparison.

Huge article and picture in todays Jim Town Sun about Ryan Smith who is LEGENDARY Jamestown College Football coach Rollie Greeno's grandson.The coverage hasnt been bad concetering it is a crap newspaper. Was informed Bismarck tribune really sucks for coverage and that majority of the sportswriters picked Gay Houston State.

Some of this is the result of the cutbacks happening in the news industry. I noticed several of these links are the same article being reprinted in various papers. Ganette owns several papers including the Indianapolis Star. One criticism they get in our area is there is much less local news and more reprinting of national stories or articles from other areas. This is an example of that. It definitely benefits the Bison and Bearkats today though! Even if someone only sees the headline and a picture it creates an impression of the university.

Not national exposure but when i was driving back tothe office from lunch I heard an ad on KDUZ, 1260 AM, Hutchinson, MN that was calling MN HS prep football players to the fact htat NDSU is playing in the national championship game on saturday, with time and channel. Good marketing tool.

@ tourguide - good weather and the national championship trophy sitting on the conference table would sure go a long way in landing some ofthese big names.

Has anyone seen much mention of the the FCS championship game or NDSU specifically in national media? ESPN sure loves to talk a bunch about the bowl games, but I have not heard anything about FCS championship. I thought with game being near the other bowl games in early January there might be more attention. Please post anything you have heard and if there are any links put them here.

I was dissapointed with ESPN. All they could talk about were the bowl games and the basketball game after our championship game. It would have been nice to see the presentation of the trophy.

It's BS they couldn't stay through the championship presentation. At least I was able to pull it up on ESPN3 but still. It's a championship game, give it championship treatment. FCS and D2 football are nothing but a pain in the ass for ESPN. Something they are contractually obligated to air because of their NCAA deal. It would have rather had Fox Sports do this game if it meant they were going to do pre and post game.

There were 2 absolute "decleater" blocks on that play, 1 by Dudzik and the other by Drevlow. If you watch the post game press conference Beck is asked about the blocking on the interception he says, "I didn't see it but I heard it!".

SHSU will be good next season but so will we. A lot of crap can happen in the offseason and injuries can derail a team in a hurry. It won't be easy but I'm confident we will have a great shot at repeating! Go Herd!

We were too tired to do any partying after the game (didn't get to Dallas until late Friday evening) and just hung out in the hotel room. All of the local TV stations in Dallas had a story on the game, but one didn't even tell us who won! All they did was talk about the financial impact for Frisco businesses with all of the fans in town for the game.

It made the front page of the Bis. Trib. on sunday along with the lead article in the sportspage! This is kind of funny, I went to Scheels in Bis. on sunday. The UND merchandise area has always been larger than the NDSU area but sunday they were re-arranging with Bison gear up front where the UND gear used to be!

Have to have a membership to read, but walked by a guy at the rental car center at DFW international he was reading the Dallas newspaper and showed me they had a full page on the NDSU/SHSU game (think there were two articles this was the only one I could find quick)
