I'm having a hard time finding a hotel in Frisco/Plano. The two hotels (Marriotts) on the NDSU website are full. Any idea where people are staying? Thanks, in advance, for the feedback.

Courtyard by Marriot in Addison. About 15 miles south of the Stadium right down the main highway I believe.

Try towns like Lewisville/Flower Mound if you renting or have a car.. They are fairly close to the Frisco(maybe 15-20 drive) especially since they completed 121 tollroad...

Me and 3 of my friends reserved a room about an hour ago at the Courtyard Dallas Allen at the John Q. Hammons Center in Dallas. It said it is only a 10 mile drive to Frisco.

Plano Marriott at Legacy Town Center---- we will probably have one extra room that we won't need at $109 + tax. We will know for sure early next week. Let me know if anyone is interested in it.

I like LaQuinta. The last couple I stayed in were just fine. $60 seems to be the average price and priceline tends to be too random.

The new ones are nice, but the older ones can be sketchy. We are staying at a brand new one in Allen that looks pretty nice.

$60 is a good price for a LaQuinta. Nicer than a Super 8 and not as nice as a HI Express.
The lowest PL bid I've ever landed for this grade of hotel is $45. When you tack on their fees it's right around $60 before taxes anyway. The higher star properties is where you can really kick ass with Priceline. Near airports or convention centers during off-peak times I often get 3-star places like Courtyard by Marriott, Radisson, etc. bidding $50-$55. Typical walk in purchase for a 3-star is usually $95-$135.

I'm looking for a bed in Memphis for the drive down. I'm going to take my chances for a super cheapo PL deal. I got lucky and got the Courtyard in Frisco for $59 with AAA discount, my wife can't believe they didn't shut down their discounts and jack up the prices because everything got booked so quickly down there.

This. LaQuintas are built on the cheap and they're generally not well-maintained. (clean, usually, but maintenance goes beyond cleaning). New ones are pretty solid for the first 2-3 years. Older properties, no ma'am. Use caution. Call ahead and ask if the bedbugs are free or do they charge extra?

For the record I am currently a Platinum in LaQuinta's Reward Points (not exactly a source of pride) so I'm biased, but not completely talking out my ass.

She thinks someone there was asleep at the switch. Case in point - when I tried to book the LaQuinta, it was $99. Obviously someone noticed that a lot of people were booking or at least looked at the events calendar and made sure they cranked up the prices. She used to be an assistant manager at a Fairfield. It appears that hotels always jack up prices when they can, it helps them afford the PL and other deals.

$1300 for 3 plane tickets and 3 nights motel (Crowne Plaza North Dallas... hopefully it's not a bad place!) Kicking the butt a little bit because we'd found the same motel on a different airline same length on Sat night (after the GSU game) for $1090 and didn't jump on it as we didn't know what our plans were and didn't have tickets to the game yet! Figured it was still cheaper than one person on the charter flights at $1300.

In minneapolis we were paying 29 bucks for two different Courtyards by marriot(one in eden, the much crappier one, and the one by the airport) and 32 for the Radisson. Of course we moved hotel rooms every night but for 3 nights at just under 100 bucks you cant really complain.

Ironically after I posted that picture my girlfriend booked a laquinta in west plano. For just barely less than what mnlonghorn posted 55/night.

Anyone else notice the inconsitency from state to state with hotel taxes? NE is way more expensive than everywhere else :(.

You will find inconsistency within the state also. Business and recreational hubs love to stick it to travllers in the way of hotel taxes.

It's a key way Indy is paying for Lucas Oil Stadium. Extra restaurant taxes too. It takes some of the burden off the locals. It's the hotels and restaurants that benefit the most from events being held at the stadium anyway. The Super Bowl in 34 days will be a great example.

It's how places like Florida can have no state income tax. The resort tax, etc. are all pretty high. The only one that shocked me was the rental car tax. A day or two wouldn't be too bad, but having a car for nine days sure added up.
