I found this on the Lehigh website.....

The typical costs of attendance for the '11-'12 academic year include the following:
Tuition: $40,660
Technology fee: $300
Typical first-year housing: $6,220
Full meal plan: $4,620

----------------------------

Direct-billed expense: $51,800

----------------------------

Estimated books and personal expenses: $2,220

Total expected cost of attendance*: $54,020

* for students in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science there is an additional fee of $450.

Looks to me like that kind of money would get you about 4 years at NDSU (ok.....maybe 3 years). Must be a student body born with silver spoons.....;)

Their yearly endowment is over $1 billion... Compare that to NDSU's $97 million. That's just astonishing to me.

No wonder they don't give athletic scholarships... holy carp.

Private schools like this provide scholarships as well so not just a bunch of rich snobs although I'm sure they have a few. Not a lot of knuckle-draggers though. More down to earth than Ivy League schools.

I think their enrollment is around 6000. Not real big.

They give out plenty of aid....their football budget is just over $4.3 million....It's like $750k more than ours....

Right. Aid <> scholly's though. 63x40k = a hell of a lot more than NDSU spends on schollys... just sayin'.

True...63 scholarships at 54k is just over $3.4 million. That said I just don't want people thinking we are playing some non-scholarship team. It isn't really true.

Exactly. I'm guessing (and it's just a guess so flame away if necessary) that the aid covers the remainder of what turns into a reduced tuition bill, where the tuition is reduced by other factors. Guessing further, a scholarship under the NCAA's guidelines probably has to cover the full cost of tuition with nothing else reducing it otherwise you'd see schools arbitrarily reducing or partially waiving tuition for athletes so scholarships wouldn't cost so much. Again. Speculation on my part but it does pass the logic test.

I don't know thing one about Lehigh, but y'know, there are private (and public) schools everywhere that cost money. Heck, cost of attendance at Concordia is close to $40,000 a year (not $54k, but still a lot).

Several of my family members went to Concordia. They used to have what's called Merit Scholarships...meaning if you were a good student and had the 'need' you came out about the same as UND or SU. They used these schollies to attract athletes also. Point being...when a private school says that they don't have athletic scholarships it's mostly BS.

Very true. There are all sorts of need- and merit-based scholarships and grants available, and many private schools will say that they will do their best to accommodate whoever gains admission. I just don't want anyone thinking that just because Lehigh's tuition is lofty, it's full of upper-class twits (though IndyBison was right that there are certainly some there).

I know St. Thomas has "Leadership Scholarships" for athletes in need, or when there in need of an athlete.

Lehigh was also the 1979 1-AA Runner-up. Lehigh lost to Roy Kidd and Eastern Kentucky 30-7 which began a bit of a dynasty in Richmond, KY.

Lehigh is the ONLY program in FCS to make the playoffs in every decade, 70's, 80's, 90's 00's and 10's. From 1986 until 1997 the Patriot League did not participate in the playoffs.

Lehigh's three most played opponents are Lafayette 147, Bucknell 75 and Rutgers 74. Their biggest rivals historically are obviously Lafayette then Delaware, Colgate and Rutgers.

Lehigh's Goodman Stadium...16k seats, about 20-22k total with the bank.

The stadium was built in a natural bowl area so the stands have a gental curve. As a result the seats are a little further removed from the field, especially around the 50.

That was the first thing I noticed too. Will be a bit different at the FFD on Saturday with the crowd breathing down their necks.

Really? A message board based around Fargo ND wants to get into unfair and mostly baseless regional stereotypes? I'd rather not. No matter how they define their football based financial aid or how much they pay in tuition, this is a team who deserves to be here. If anything, they probably are held back to a certain degree by academic standards from recruiting every player that they wish they could recruit. I'd almost guess that we'll see a team like Northwestern, where they make up for lower raw athletic ceilings with discipline and execution. Looking forward to it.

As a side note, their stadium looks like a really fun time. I guess we'd only ever play there in a playoff game so that stinks, but I'd love to catch a game there. Looks almost like SJU but on a larger scale.

Looks like an Aussie rules football or cricket field. Or, a great place for a rugby pitch!

My first job out of college I visited college campuses all over the country (including JMU and Lehigh). There are always perceptions about different parts of the country and different schools that are usually generalizations that have some truth but not entirely. There are a lot of smaller, private schools in the northeast. Even the state universities are generally smaller. Rutgers (58k) is probably the one exception. UConn (17k), UMass (27k), URI (13k), UNH (14k), Maine (11k), and Vermont (13k) are relatively similar in size to NDSU.

I have nothing against Lehigh, if anything Lehigh is a nice school, they are in our way though. No smack on these guys just that they are a private school.

Any felonies or suspensions for the Mt. Hawks?
There is usually one guy, but the Hawks have it all together mentally.

That will change about 5 times this week. You can't predict the weather in Fargo until at least 3 hrs before tailgate

I have no idea what NDSU costs per year are anymore. If $15,000, 15k*63 = $945,000, compared with 54k * 63 = $3,400,000. Wow, but I also know these private school have a million ways to get scholarships that don't require money from the athletic dept. (If $20,000, $1,260,000, if $25,000, $1,575,000). I realize that out of state tuition will be higher.
