It's very early in the year, but the Bison be kicking ass and taking names.

NorCalJack just updated his annual thread on SDSUFans, so I went ahead and copied his numbers. He includes the current standings for baseball and softball, but I've left them out because I feel it's too early in the season to get an accurate picture from those sports. NDSU has our third straight women's cup all but locked up, and it looks like we might have our first overall win this year. Even the men have an outside shot, which is amazing considering how few men's sports we have compared to other members of the conference.

Sports remaining: Baseball, Softball, M&W Outdoor T&F, M&W Tennis, M&W Golf

Short of an epic collapse in baseball, softball and T&F, NDSU is going to win its first Summit Commissioner's Cup. Also its third straight women's award is in the bag. We'd have a shot at the men's award, but the two schools above us are too good in T&F to give us the four points we need to catch up. Considering we get zero points in three men's sports, it's amazing we're even in the race. Here are the updated standing through Saturday. Champions/leaders are marked in gray.

Looking at things a different way: In 9 of our 13 sports so far*, NDSU has achieved a first or second place and no finish has been lower than fifth. Probably our best combined year since the DI move. (*counting FB & wrestling)

Updated standings with only two weeks of baseball left to play. NDSU has the cup and women's award locked up, and still has a chance for the sweep. It's all in the baseball team's hands. If they win the regular season title and SUU stays in 4th, NDSU will at least split the men's award. If ORU also places third, NDSU wins it outright.

Final official results. NDSU takes the overall cup for the first time and dominates the women's award for the third straight year. ORU takes the men's award in a very close race with SUU & NDSU.

now if we can get the mens/womens basketball programs back on track... we would absolutely dominate.

North Dakota State won its first Summit League Commissioner’s Cup and here’s all you need to know about it: the Bison had one crazy-good athletic year.

The Cup is awarded to the conference school that has the best combined men’s and women’s finishes in all sports. In NDSU’s case, no program was a cellar dweller, or even close, while every sport ended in at least the upper half of the conference standings. Moreover, the women’s program was awarded the Dr. Helen Smiley Women’s All-Sports Award for the third straight year.

"It puts the final touch on a phenomenal year," said athletic director Gene Taylor.

Moreover, the women’s program was awarded the Dr. Helen Smiley Women’s All-Sports Award for the third straight year.

Noticed that the women's award is named for Dr. Smiley, who spent almost as much time at UND as she did in the Summit.

Is the men's award named after Carl Miller?
