CHICAGO, Ill. --Quarterbacks Kyle Essington of Stony Brook, DeNarius McGhee of Montana State, and Derek Carr of Tennessee-Martin, linebacker Chad Willson of North Dakota State, and Montana kicker Brody McKnight have been selected as the College Sporting News All-Stars for the week ending Oct. 9 in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.
Willson, a 5-foot-11, 221-pound senior from Layton, Utah (Layton H.S./Snow JC) had 10 tackles, including nine solos, and an interception in in North Dakota State 9-3 win at No. 17 Southern Illinois. His first career interception with 2:08 left in the fourth quarter sealed the road win for the Bison.
It was Willson’s third career double-figure tackle game. The nine solos were a career-high. Willson had the tackle to stop a fourth-and-goal from the one during Southern Illinois’ first drive in the first quarter.
Willson was also named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week and honorable mention on the College Football Performance.com linebacker award list.
