Which ones would you like for me to email? I'm a student, my sister is a student, my other sister recently graduated. My dad graduated from here. I figure they will have a hard time telling me why me, my sisters, and my dad to a lesser extent, had less state money pumped into our University when compared to students at other schools.

You have a 'very' conservative state government with a biased element that is dominant.

The SBOHE is where we should start. They are the ones that prepare the budgets and requests for money to the legislature.
The email addresses are all listed in the other thread on this topic (in Bison Commons).

Can someone give a brief summary of why NDSU is underfunded in the first place? I have no doubt there has to be a reason for it, even if it isn't a good one.

Politics and parochialism. UND has a lot of political clout and they trade favors, sometimes just to get money for UND but plenty of times just to make sure NDSU doesn't get something. Parochialism comes into play because NDSU is in Cass County.
The perfect example of the UND favor trading right now is the litlle deal Holmberg and Skarphol came up with where Williston got a new building* despite having a student body smaller than some Freshman calculus classes at NDSU in exchange for Skarphol's efforts to increase UND's funding by $100 million.
* Seriously, what would NDSU have to do to get a new building that the state pays more than 50% of every fifty years or so.

Why did you move this so quickly? Nobody reads the other forum. This is a big issue and by being anal by not letting this stay in a forum that people actually read, it means we will have less people taking action.

Got a chance to speak with President Bresciani at the Alumni gathering at the Holiday Inn earlier tonight. My fellow Yell Leader and I commented on how sweet the tartan ties are (the tie application of the tartan that was chosen in April) and he literally said to my partner "Hey, let's trade" and they swapped ties. He said "Keep it" and told me I'd have one waiting for me at the BSA tomorrow and not to worry about it. These are $70 ties and he was willing to foot whatever bills came the way for the sake of a university's "pump it up" guys to look sharp.
I already had the utmost respect for President Bresciani, but this kind of down-to-earth attitude is just so...refreshing? Mr. Bresciani is just a fantastic guy. Really cannot say enough about his character and the benefit he is to NDSU, Fargo, and the state of North Dakota.

They probably want to see if you know what you are talking about rather than just sending an e-mail repeating something you heard and want to discuss it with you. It would be interesting to hear what they say. I don't see what the harm in giving your phone number to discuss this in person would be. Pretty certain with your e-mail address, they can figure out who you are regardless (see Brosius, Scott).

Exactly. I don't think morons should be rewarded for being hypocrites.
It's not very nice to call people morons. It's certainly not conducive to level-headed discussion.
And I answer that question every single time it's asked, I just don't have a lot of time to hang around a forum where sports enthusiasts put their favorite teams above sound public policy, so if I've bbeen asked questions here and haven't responded it's only because this forum is pretty low on my list of priorities.
I'll answer it here again: UND has a higher per-student level of funding because they have a) a medical school and b) a flight school which distorts the numbers. Now, I know you guys hate UND because of the sports stuff and all that - and hey, it's fun - but from a policy perspective, it costs more to provide airplanes and cadavers, etc., etc. to educate pilots and doctors than it does to educate kids at NDSU.
This is simple reality. Nor does noting this make me a hypocrite. I'm not happy about what North Dakotans are paying for the university system in general. NDSU or UND, it's all a problem.
That President Bresciani's politicking casts NDSU in a negative light isn't my fault. I'm not the one earning NDSU's administration a bad name.
If you have more comments, or want more discussion, I'm certainly always available on the blog or (since the I can't read all of the thousand or so comments posted their daily) just email me at rob@sayanythingblog.com.

Yes. Calling you a moron would be insulting to morons, which isn't very nice. It isn't conducive to level-headed discussion, but neither is your condescending attitude.
If you would pay attention, the medical school funding is counted seperately, and it hasn't been part of the per-capita funding argument. We're not idiots. It boggles the mind that you haven't once called out the FACT that over 15% of the students at UND that are being subsidized by ND taxpayers never set foot on campus at UND, and thus have 0.0 contribution to the tax base and the community--basically a 0.00 percent return on investment. And yet we continue to see building funding allocated to UND. Hmmmm.
Now, I know you have a major boner for all things NDSU, but your bias has been exposed, and your seeming inability to apply the same level of vigor and vitrol to examining spending at UND (e.g. on the nickname fiasco) and the systemic and historically documented manipulation of enrollment numbers there, well, it's not my fault. I'm not the one who wades through a pile of 3/4 inch plywood at UND to pick on toothpicks at NDSU.
You may also choose to learn a little bit about the English language... in written form, anyway. There is a huge difference between "their" and "there" (and "they're", for that matter). Now they do all sound the same, but they're different words and have different spellings. I suppose that's a difference between a run-of-the-mill blogger and a professional though. I'll leave it alone as I'm not likely to change anything, and by including this in my response I'm giving you an opportunity to ignore the meat of the discussion.

I would think that actually being a moron and hypocrite would add considerable sting to those observations.
You clearly don't have a clue what you are talking about. UND's Medical school's budget is separate and if it is so dang important for North Dakota to provide flight training at a deep discount from the market rate, then that still doesn't explain why UND needs extra money for every student. You are a hypocrite because you act like you care about taxpayer money when your agenda is clearly to attack NDSU for UND's benefit. You are a moron if you think that anybody is going to fall for it.
For example, even if you are right that UND's flight school is expensive, then there is still the matter of justifying that expense as a matter of public policy (which you can't.) I mean, what is more important to North Dakota: an ag school or a flight training school? What is more important to North Dakota: Training engineers and other people who MAKE stuff or providing a government-sponsored competition to the University of Phoenix for people who never set foot in North Dakota?
However, if UND's aviation school is so incredibly important, then the funding model should be remade to reflect that fact. Right now, based on your logic, really the discrepancy between the per-student funding at NDSU and UND is much greater than the 40% I've been trotting out.
I don't expect you to figure that out so here's an analogy:
Branch A of a Company X has 100 employees, 20 of them live in Fiji and 80 of them live in Fargo.
Branch B of a Company X also has 100 employees but all are in Fargo.
The company gives employees in Fiji a cost-of-living increase.
If the Branch A's total payroll is 40% more than Branch B's, then how much is that cost-of-living increase?
It would upset my world view to think that you can do simple algebra so I'll do the work: It costs Company X 300% more per employee in Fiji, not 40%. In fact, your argument is worse because there is no way that UND is training 20% of their student body to fly planes so the actual state subsidy for training pilots at UND, if you are right in your supposition, would be closer to 400%.
In my analogy you would be the mendacious twit who comes in and starts screaming about how expensive Branch B is but explains, when his nose is rubbed into the fact that not only is Branch B considerably more efficient than Branch A, but it's also the most efficient branch in company, that Branch A has a Fiji presence that is very expensive... well, wouldn't a reasonable question to ask a guy who is so worried about expenses is why, rather than attacking Branch B, he isn't questioning the Fiji presence? I mean, what benefit is it providing?
Public policy, my ass.

Big difference: When you beat on a piņata hard enough, you get candy. Port is more like a full colostomy bag - no matter how hard you beat on it, the only thing you're ever going to get out of it is more crap.
Not the image I needed in my head on a Monday morning...(or any other time for that matter!)

Rob Port needs to stay out of Bisonville and go back to masturbating to lolicon.

I doubt that's what turns his crank. He probably has posters of Scott Hennen above his bed.

Scott Hennen was once fat, then he became emaciated. Did he have cancer or something?? Not meaning to be a dick, Just wondering since when I saw him on commercials in 04-05, he was probably bigger than me, then a couple years later he looked like an Auschwitz victim.
(Rob port is at least 50 lbs. fatter than me, for the record. As a fat guy myself, I also have free reign to make fun of his weight.:fight:)

Must be nice to have extra funding.

The vice president for university and public affairs will oversee internal and external communication and governmental affairs and enhance UND’s presence and reputation across all key constituencies.
Cue Rob Port screaming from the hilltops about empire-building and unnecessary spending. Wait, what's that? Oh. Sorry. This just in. Forget the screaming, this isn't about NDSU.

With the name shit storm, they are going to need a whole public affairs and relations department just for that. Maybe even a new building to house it.

I could be(probably am) wrong, but isn't this the position they eliminated in order to fire that woman a couple months ago? The one where they gave here no warning after a couple decades of service and made sure Kelley was out of town at the time?
Or maybe they just fired her and this is the search committee to find her replacement.

IIRC this is a new (additional) VP position.
