I'd guess that the game is not going to sell out which would be kind of disappointing. Of course, a sellout depends on how well students and general admission show up anyway - these numbers are strictly reserved seating. There are 9 sections that are 1/2 General Admission, but GAs usually sell well.)

So 1276 tickets left + GA with the game a little over a week away. I'm just about to put a dent into one of those sections...

It shold at the very least be pretty close. First game of the year, students should probably show up especially with the hype around this team.

Its not looking like a sellout. I've looked at it and they are down to a trickle right now. I would expect around 16k with about 75% students. I think they are going to take a while to figure out how to get their tickets with the new process. They did 1 story on it, but thats it.

Hope they have a good media blitz planned starting on Monday. Its Bison Week.

Edit : looks like the other games are moving well. 3 years ago homecoming sold out on 9/6. Interest level still not at 2008 levels

You guys don't think they can sell 1,276 tickets in the next 9 days?? I think walk-up game day sales are usually 1,500-2,000 most games... This thing will sell out. Usually for home openers, at least 3/4 of the student body wants to go to the game. Student section will be full, don't worry. There'll be 18,800 or so at the Dome.

You may want to call in and get a ticket reserved just in case. (don't see a sellout happening but wouldn't want to see a guy come all this way and not get a seat). That way you can request a seat in the visitor section if you wish. Judging by what's left that might be the best remaining seat unless you like high end zone seats. Not that there's really a bad seat but some are certainly better than others.

LA BOR DAY weekend. How many students don't go home that weekend? Yeah, that's right. Most do, unless things have changed in the last year or two. It's the first opportunity to connect up with their old HS buddies and compare conquest stories. Again I'll believe it when I see it.

1276+4000+(2000GA?)

Im not sure how many GA seats there are.

Yeah, something like 7,000 total seats unaccounted for so far (3,800 of them students), if you assume no one bought GA tickets, but I bet some GA tickets have been sold. I would say close to 12,500 reserveds have been sold.

I'm gonna venture to guess that around 2,000 total non-student tickets are remaining, and that they will be all snatched up by kickoff.

I dont think this game well be even close to a sell out. We'll be lucky if 1000 students show up. Including myself. Plus everyone else leaving town to have one more last summer weekend at the lakes. My guess is 16,243. The St. Francis game should be nuts though and then homecoming.

I agree with some of your reasoning but I would guess it will be slightly better than that. I'll go on record with a guess of 17,143 for the first game.

Yeah but...........the lakes people have to go to the lake.
Then later in the year............the hunters have to hunt.
Plenty of other days in the year for hanging at the lake or going hunting. Only 6 Bison home games during the season.
Have to remember some people are so lame they have to go shopping Saturday afternoons.
Of course these folks with excuses are not much for Bison fans. They are likely the ones that sit, talk, read and feed their face at the game. Stay home then.

I still plan to make the game. I just started "War and Peace" and am looking to get through the heart of the book. My wife took an advanced knitting class this past summer so we are ready! As long as BisonFan1 keeps his butt in his seat, we should be able to relax, read / knit, and still keep one eye on the game.

No. It is part of the Pioneer Football League.

Correct...Pioneer is FCS but non-scholarship for football. This is the same conference as Valpo (NDSU's first "D1" home game) and Butler. Most of the competition is probably equivalent to D3 which is also non-scholarship. The only advantage they have is they have D1 basketball programs. D3 is fairly equivalent to NAIA. There are good and bad teams in each of these levels but the tops of these levels are fairly even.

Just because they are non scholarship doesn't mean they don't get assistance. Plus there are is an abundance of talent out east. They are good teams. Heck, the Pioneer Champion beat UNI, the MVFC Champion. They would handily beat an NAIA team.

You have two conferences confused. Pioneer is non-scholarship and I don't believe a team from this league has gotten an invite to the playoffs in a very long time if ever.

The Patriot league is a scholarship league which although not one of the strongest conferences in FCS is an auto-bid conference.

Whodathought?

Robert Morris Illinois is a private college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and an NAIA team with its main campus in Chicago - Eagles Football begins intercollegiate play in 2011!

Schedule

Mayville State University (ND) Mayville, ND
Minnesota State University-Moorhead
Siena Heights University (MI)
Ave Maria University (FL)
St. Joseph College (IN)
Concordia University (MI)
Trinity Bible College (ND) Ellendale, ND
Haskell Indian Nations University (KS)
Valley City State University (ND)
Siena Heights University (MI)

They lost their first game to Mayville 18 - 21 with a freshman dominated team.

And yes, they do have hockey!

I'm gonna guess 16,700. Probably would be close to a sellout if it wasn't held on saturday but as long as the die hards are there the atmosphere should be electric. The Robert Morris game was the least attended game last season but the 12,000 or so made more noise than most of the 18k+ crowds the last few years. Just imagine what it could be like if all of our fans would get off their asses and actually make some noise.

Don't worry about the students not showing up. Over 50% would be gone for the second half anyway. We have some great fans in the student section that get what a Division I college football atmosphere should be like, unfortunately we don't have nearly enough. Until we get them and the zombies on the east side on board we will never reach our potential as far as gameday atmosphere. Enjoy your weekend at the lakes jackballs!

5 tickets left between the 20s, and all but 1 are in the last row of sec 20. 12 tickets left in the reserved endzones and they're all singles. 292 left outside the corners, and 1074 left overall. No way to know how many GA are left, but I bet most people buying for more than a pair are getting GA at this point.

I love the new software.

You have two conferences confused. Pioneer is non-scholarship and I don't believe a team from this league has gotten an invite to the playoffs in a very long time if ever.

The Patriot league is a scholarship league which although not one of the strongest conferences in FCS is an auto-bid conference.

I know that most here are unfamiliar with Lafayette and with the Patriot League in general, and there's no reason you should be. We're a little obscure, I know. The Patriot League actually is a non-scholarship league. We provide financial-based aid, but we do not provide athletic scholarships. We don't allow freshman redshirts, and we all have to abide with something known as the "Academic Index," which you guys might or might not be familiar with.

All Patriot Schools have a very long history of Division I competition, but most of our scheduling is confined to the northeast. Our most frequent opponents by far are the Ivy League schools. That's because they, too, don't provide athletic scholarships, don't redshirt, and comply with the same Academic Index. In fact, The Patriot itself began as a result of an agreement with the Ivy. At first (like the Ivy now) we didn't even allow ourselves to compete in the playoffs, even though we were eligible.

Nowadays, our institutions' presidents are considering allowing football scholarships. That decision is a couple of years off, however.

We're all as intrigued about the prospect of facing NDSU as I'm sure you are about playing Lafayette.

I'm not normally very good when it comes to crowd estimates(it's why I go for cold hard stats instead), but I think this game will be very close to a financial sellout. I think there will be less than 500 tickets left by kickoff, and half of those will be in the visitor's section. I think GA will be packed. Like everyone else has said, the big question mark is the students. Will they be engaged this early in the season? Will they be engaged at all? Will the new student ticket system hurt or help? Will everyone go home for the first three day weekend, or has NDSU(& Fargo) turned the corner to be the place you want to stay at even after only a week's exposure(for the freshmen)? To those questions, I have no answers. My gut says around 3000 will show up, and 1000 will still be there in the 3rd quarter. So, putting it all together, my guess is an announced attendance of about 17,200. But I'm sure I'll be wrong.

Lafayette is very, very different from Robert Morris. We're not in the same conference and, in fact, we've never faced them.

No Lafayette fans will be "sent" to Fargo. I know several people who have made reservations to be there, however. Don't expect a large contingent of Lafayette fans. A couple hundred, perhaps. To a person we will be gracious and very well-behaved, if somewhat bewildered by the unfamiliar surroundings.

You'll be able to spot us with our bespectacled, east-coast preppy style and moroon colors. Look for the Harris Tweed jackets and Fair Isle sweaters. Our men tend to be unusually tall and slender, and our women, quite blonde and very well toned. I kid you not, here.

Keep in mind that most of Lafayette's opponents are very nearby. It's less than an hour's pleasant drive from Lafayette to Princeton, Lehigh, Columbia, Monmouth, Fordham, Wagner, Penn and Villanova. Can you imagine? We're really spoiled by that, and our fans typically come out for away games. NDSU fans really have to haul for its away games, and it's a real tribute to you guys that some may fans make the trip.

Super, send the men to tailgating for the likes of TransAmBison, Answer Guy, Ming, etc. Notorious, Tatanka and myself will "entertain" the women. I hope the women you bring as fans look better than your cheerleaders btw!!:D Feel free to and comfortable in walking the (main) tailgate lot (west of Dome), as it is very doubtful you will find any trouble and highly likely you will be invited by many to join in!!

Here's my preditions...

Currently there are 1,098 tickets available on gobison.com . They added tickets in the last day. Must have been returned seats by the visitors.

19,000 seats
- 1098 sideline seats available
- 2000 general admission
- 4000 student seats.

Assuming we have sold zero GA seats and student tickets, as of this morning we have sold...

11,902

Worst case scenerio. Let's say only half the students show up. That increases the attendance to 13,902

Let's say we only sell 100 tickets per day Wed/Thurs/Friday for a total of 300

That brings the attendance up to 14,202

Let's assume we have only sold a worst case scenario 100 general admission tickets right now...

That brings the attendance up to 14,302

Now how many seats will we sell on game day? I'll say worst case scenario of 1,000.

Worst case scenario attendance is 15,302 (assuming holiday kills the gate)
Moderate 16,802 (add 1,000 students and 500 more tickets sold)
Best Case - 18,302 (All the students tickets sell out and an extra 500 show)

I'm thinking more like 38-20 with the Herd pulling away late in the game. I think that game will be in doubt until sometime in the fourth quarter when the difference in depth will catch up with the Pards. This is a team that could come in here and beat us if we are not prepared and they play lights out mistake free football. I'm pretty sure Bohl will have the guys ready to play, but there will probably be more than a few Bison fans leaving with a little more respect for "those people".

1,072 reserved seats left as of 72 hours before kickoff.

There's roughly 2,000 GA seats, I'm gonna guess that 1,000 of those have been sold, so we have 2,000 or so tix to sell not counting students.

Probably will be 17,500-17,700 for this one. 500 non-student tix left on the table plus 1,000 student seats empty. 19,287 - 500 - 1000 = 17,787

Does anyone know why this game wasn't on Thursday?

I remember in the 80's when the home opener was always on the Thursday before the first week of classes. Sometime after labor day. The student section would be packed and school hadn't even started yet. Imagine that.....

I remember one year my roommates and I threw the biggest kick-ass party after the home opener. Maybe some of you guys were there. I lived two houses down from the Amoco station that used to be on the corner of university and 12th.

Anyway, we got three 16 gallon kegs from Polar Package to start out with and within 2 hours they were gone. We took in over $700 and we were just about to get some more kegs when the cops busted it. Actually, they did us a favor as we didn't have to buy any more beer. Back then the cops just broke it up and sent everyone on their marry way home, unlike today.

Hell, that party covered the rent for the 3 apartments in the house for that month. But, what a fricken mess to clean up.

Where has the time gone?

I was a student from 1980 to 1984, and just the student ID (with no picture in those days) was all you needed. Even better: my wife and I got married the summer of '84 between my NDSU graduation and my start of graduate school at Moorhead State that fall. It means that 2800 of the ~3600 student tickets allotted are spoken for. Around 700 were taken Tuesday to while it bodes well, can't say whether it will sell out or not. We'll get close, but I'm not sure we'll make it. We could break 18,000 for this game though.

A little bird told me at the Scheel's gig that 2800 student tickets are spoken for.

Thats ok numbers. I predicted 3,000. Looks like thats could be exceeded. I'm sure well sell more than 200 on Friday and Saturday. Wonder what the odds are we sell the last 800 and have to sell extras?

Just a minor point that I'm sure you're aware of, but student tickets aren't "sold." They're paid for through activity fees attached to tuition to just by attending students have free access to all regular-season athletic events.

Anyway, I think we pass 3,000. There might be some freshmen still waffling on picking them up or heading home on the long weekend, so we could see a short spike in numbers but I'd say 3,500 is asking a lot. Considering it's the second week of school (freshmen want to go home) and Labor Day weekend, I'd say it's a good turnouts for the circumstances. No reason not to have a sellout next week.

It means that 2800 of the ~3600 student tickets allotted are spoken for. Around 700 were taken Tuesday to while it bodes well, can't say whether it will sell out or not. We'll get close, but I'm not sure we'll make it. We could break 18,000 for this game though.

The inference that the number is meaningless conveys to me that informing people is implicitly the same - meaningless. Hence why I won't bother next time.

Since I'm just about to get on a plane to fly halfway across the country, should I expect a half-empty FargoDome?

Maybe you guys ought to consider a return trip to 14,000-seat Fisher Field. Outdoors. In the weather. Thousands of bewildered Pard fans staring at you.

It'll do you some good, I think.

Good luck to all the student-athletes and dedicated coaches participating this weekend. College football at its best, as it was meant to be.

Funny.

I brought up the idea of wearing watermelon helmuts to my family last week.

They all looked at me like I'm a dumbass (which I'm not, I'm a smart ass, but that's a different thread).

Anyways it was pretty funny - the looks that my wife, five-year-old daughter, and four-year-old son gave me. Couldn't help but think that they all had more common sense than yours truly.

My updated prediction...

19000 seats total
- 1000 unused student tickets (if mr roths number is correct 2800/4000)
- 890 single seats
- 2000 general admission (assume we have sold zero)
that brings us to 15,110
lets assume we have sold 300 general admission - 15,410
an average walk up of 1,000 will put us at 16,410

nice weather could hurt or help the cause...
people will either go to the lakes or decide to tailgate

Well when I was a freshman in 2007, you had to camp out at the BSA monday mornings to get a ticket or you wouldn't be at the game. They had to turn students away at the door because we had too many trying to get in. AND we stayed until the end of the game, attendance and participation is nothing like it was then.

I am aware, I snuck into the student section back then (sisters are/were in school) and wow, it got rocking over there. Had to love it.
