Program Outreach - TV games in North Dakota crucial to in-state success

A few days ago, while enjoying a delicious Turf Burger at the Bison Turf, I had a conversation with a coworker who considers himself a reasonably-disconnected person from Bison athletics, more of a bystander and fan of "Fargo teams" then necessarily an NDSU guy. The subject of TV games came up, sparked by the recent news that ten of the team's eleven football games this year would be televised, and while discussing the merits of networks like the Big Ten Network and Fox College Sports, mention of the North Dakota NBC network drew some ire from my conversation partner.

I thought all 11 were being broadcast? I was under the impression the lafayette game will be easily available to over 30 million just not in nd. Is this not the case? More specifically in the nyc area.

Great article. TV breeds fans. Just look at the Cubs and Braves. They have a National audience based on WGN and TBS alone. There is a reason everyone knew who Harry Carry was. TV games give family and friends another reason to get together and watch games at home or at a bar. That is what breeds fans.

Out of sight. Out of mind.

Although I have to admit, games on Fox Sports Net would be bigger than state TV. Being on the same channel as the Twins and Wild is huge and its a local channel in North Dakota. Big opportunities in the future with the Gophers leaving the WCHA
