I think the law that they had the legislation pass doesn't install them as the defacto #1 team in FCS football until September 1st. I could be wrong though.

Maybe I am missing something.....do these pollsters even look at playoff results......apparently they do for Eastern Washington.
NDSU barely loses to eventual national champion in overtime at their place in the quartefinals and defeats by a wide margin Montana State at their place in the first round, yet Montana State is consistently ranked above NDSU. I just don't get it.

And we return some key starters...probably doesn't matter anyway, as we'll be near the top by mid-year; however, it does seem biased for some reason.

It has teh word "Montana" in it, which autoqualifies for a lifetime achievement award in the polls.

Where the hell is Lafayette?

I thought most of us didn't have a clue?!?

Apparently, the rest of the nation also realize that 7 and 8 win seasons don't mean much if five of them come from Columbia, Marist, Georgetown, Bucknell and Fordham every year.

Not really serious...just a little good humored smack, Lafayette fans. :duel:

I think that said more about NDSU than it did about them. So they beat us, does that make them a top 25 team?

Well, they aren't in the top 25, they just got votes. That said, they are supposed to be a much improved team this year, so who knows.

All I know is that this is just a pre-season poll, and as long as we are in the top 15 and we have a good season, we make the playoffs again!!

Not sure how the poll works. It may just ask for votes on FCS teams as well as No. 1 votes, and then whoever gets the most votes gets number 1, and so on. Notice how the number 1 votes are noted? Also, I am sure you have seen polls where the number 1 ranked team does not receive the most number 1 votes, but, I don't know how it works for sure.

Possible.

Most polls work on a reverse points platform. 25 points for a #1 vote, 24 for a #2, 23 for a #3, ... , 1 for a #25. This particular poll has 140 voters, and the #1 votes are listed seperately. it is mathematically possible for a team to be #1 in points but not have the most #1 votes... one way for this to happen is for a team to get a lot of #1 votes but a lot more # 4 or #5 votes.

All I know is UND's football team is definitely a #2. Everything else at this point is conjecture.

Having had a vote in this poll in the past, I know they just ask for each person's Top 25. 25 points for #1 down to 1 point for #25. So someone had to put the teams with votes somewhere in their ballot.

See you in MSP. I'll be the drunk guy wearing green.

Back on topic, I'm happy to be considered and all but I'm not sure we deserve anything higher than 15. Sure, we beat a couple of teams in the playoffs but we also proved that we were pretty beatable during the season.

Like everyone else, I'm more interested in the early November polls.

No kidding. It's funny how some people think that last year should really mean something when they do polls for this year, but by last year I only really mean look to the beginning of our great end-of-season winning streak. Anything which happened in that same season but before our big streak doesn't count!

Also-in threads about discussing pre-season or even mid-season rankings, we should all just agree that (even though we are arguing about these polls) we all know that they are meaningless and that we don't care about them.

...our big streak...

What big streak? We won two games in a row late in the season, one of which was a quality opponent. (Sorry RBU.) I was tempted to say 2.9 games in the streak but we started the EWU game down 14-0, looking pretty bad in the process.

For the love of God and Country, I still cannot shake the vision of losing 0-3 to MSU. That game gives me reason to at least pause in all of my crazy optimism.

I'm just as excited as the rest of you but I have no delusion that we are a "proven" commodity. Potential, yes. Anywhere in the top 25 is just gravy to me at this point.

Eh, fuck it. I predict that we'll be 10-1 going into the playoff in the FFD.

I didn't mean big streak as in a long winning streak, I meant big as in an influential string of play. The playoffs, all 3 games. People want to use our effort in the playoffs as a reason why we are being slighted in certain pre-season polls. As if the pollsters should look back into our history for as long as it is beneficial to us, but not any further to say, a game 7 days earlier where we were shutout by MSU with what we thought may be our playoff lives in our hands. That's all what I meant.
