Looks like Amy shot +2 73
Crystal Reeves shot +3 74

First round suspended by dangerous conditions

Amy(and Crystal) will have to play a little better tomorrow to guarantee they make the match play cut. The top 64 players move on. Amy is tied for 46th, and Crystal is tied for 57th. And they both could sink a little more once the last golfers finish up.

I hope she makes it -- looks like Wednesday - Saturday are televised on The Golf Channel.

There is still a whole lotta golf to be played yet today, but it's looking good for Amy and bad for Crystal. Amy shot even par today to stay at +2, but Crystal dropped another 3 back to end at +6. At the moment, Amy is tied for 29th and Crystal is tied for 76th. The top 64 will advance, so it looks like Amy will make it but Crystal won't.

NDSU's Anderson qualifies for match play in U.S. Women's Amateur
The top 64 players reached Wednesday’s first round and Anderson was tied for 29th with the cut looking to be around 5-over par. Her day wasn’t done, either.

Crystal Reeves also made it in tied at 59th. Good for the Conference.

Way to go Amy..

Amy advances to 2nd round (1-up)...

Do'h. Got distracted at 11 this morning and totally forgot about Amy until now. Both Summit matches went to the very end. Amy won and Crystal lost; both by 1-up. Amy plays tomorrow morning at 8:30 versus the woman who beat Crystal. If Amy advances to the round of 16, she will play again tomorrow afternoon with coverage on the Golf Channel starting again at 2:00. Stroke play doesn't mean much now, but it looks like this was Amy's best day so far. She shot -2. Hopefully she continues to improve tomorrow.

I didn't get to see much today, I had to go into work to work today. Hopefully I'll get to work from home tomorrow, so I can watch easier. Some things from the little time I did see...

*one announcer (male) said she has a "nice smile" (ya pervert) ;)

*she's got a "Michelle Wie" follow-through

*she seems to "get it" that it's just a game; doesn't put too much pressure on herself, just goes out and has fun

*mentioned (again) the 3-month golf season

*a few NDSU references and graphics

*references to her smiling and waving to her family "thats how they roll"

Like I said, I only saw a limited amount of action, but she got nothing but compliments from what I heard. IMO the U.S. open brought her HUGE exposure; separated her from just another "face in the crowd" among a ton of great amateut golfers...

All square through 5. Moriya took a one hole lead on 3, but Amy got it back on 5.

Still all square through 10. Moriya went up again on 7, but Amy got it right back on 8.

Dammit. Amy loses the 18th and the match.

Oh well, at least it was another good showing for Amy. Her opponent was 3rd in stroke play with a -5 to Amy's +3.

I hate to look stupid but can someone explain the terminology of match play. Amy lost her match 1 up, other matches of this round were 3 & 1, 3 & 2, 6&4 etc.

1-up means you lost by 1 hole at the end of 18.
Other examples: 3-2 means you were behind by 3 holes with only 2 to play (meaning it's impossible for you to win).
6-4, that would mean you were down by 5 with 5 holes to play (meaning you could still force extra holes by taking the last five, but you lost the next hole). Then you would be down 6 holes with only 4 to play (match over). If you had tied that hole, you would have lost 5-4. When you have to win all remaining holes to force extra holes, that's a "dormie"

Hope I explained that okay.

3&1: Winner was leading by 2 holes going into the 17th and won that one to be leading by 3 with only 1 hole left so match is over.

3&2: Winner was leading by 3 going into the 16th hole and the players tied and with only 17 & 18 left the match.

6&4: Winner was leading by 5 going into the 14th hole and won that one to be leading by 6 with 4 holes left so match is over.

etc. etc. etc.

In match play, you score by hole. A golfer can win, split or lose a hole depending on how each golfer does compared to the other. If the golfers are tied overall, they are 'all square'. If one golfer is in the lead, they are 'up-whatever'. If they lead by 2 holes, they are up-2. When you get toward the end of the match, a golfer can be ahead by more holes than are left to play; at that point the match is over.

Say Amy and Jane are golfing match play. After 13 holes, Amy is up-6. Since only 5 holes remain, there is no way Jane can win. The match is over and Amy wins 6 & 5; ahead by 6 with 5 holes remaining. The first number will always be one or two larger than the second. If the match goes all the way to the 18th hole, it's listed as 1-up rather than 1 & 0. If it goes beyond 18 holes, the last playoff hole is given.

Make sense?

(and I'm slow x2)

Probably the final update. The woman who defeated both Amy and Crystal has made it to the 36-hole championship match. After 18, she's down 4 holes. Assuming she doesn't make a miraculous comeback, Amy will have lost to the runner up.

Apparently Amy is friends with the winner and jokingly tried to get her to "transfer to NDSU so they could make snowmen in the offseason." :)

Amy was also there cheering the winner, Kang, on.
