Farnlof's coach was on. NDSU recruited Farnlof as a DT. He was also a great pulling guard in HS. NDSU did a great job recruiting him. Coach has followed the Bison since '09 when Bohl made a visit to recruit their QB who is now at Idaho. Farnlof loved everything about his visit to Fargo and wore Bison gear to school today. He will probably redshirt, but could be talented enough to play right away.

It's cool that the coach has been following NDSU for a couple years. That's what we call the start of a pipeline, folks.

Chuks went to the same high school as Jordan Champion. Couple really good leads down there, and the coach tonight noted that they know who Matt Jones and Ryan Stanford were in Arizona and that the level of talent is increasing in Arizona and there are only 3 D1 schools.....he expected the pipeline from Arizona to NDSU to continue. Spoke highly of AJ Cooper and how he was maintaining great contact during the playoff run and that he came from Arizona. All well done. Also, great job by Kolpack and Izzo on the radio tonight. Very well done.

Jones, Stafford, Champion, Farnloff, Chuks. Hopefully we can add Thomas and Timph. So far looks good. Let's hope they don't flake out like many of the Texas kids did. If they stay, they will be like DJ and Holloway... Champions!

Can you leave the links to the recruiting agencies when moving them from the offer list? It's good history to see who else offered.

wait are you refering to Lyons and Dakota being removed or the committed elsewhere for players like Lauer and Jahn? If its not Lyons and Dakota, then I have nothing to do with it, that is all Tony and SDBison. But I promise it will look much different for 2013 summary which is why I posted the thread. I agree that more info could be on the committed elsewhere and even the verbals NDSU has recieved. Kohl's kicking camps had Tom ranked as the 100th best kicker in this class and Matt Easley ranked 71st, so the coaches must have seen something they really liked about Tom.

Advantage: NDSU would get recruits like this.
Disadvantage: The minute NDSU starts winning, the coaching staff will get poached by a BCS program.

That kind of sucks. ASU would have been better than losing him to a Kent State team that I don't think has had a winning season since at least the early 2000's. I guess he didn't want to win.

Found their media guide. Since 1978 they have had 2 winning seasons 7-4 in 1987 and 6-5 in 2001.

I believe they were talking to him. Narrowed it down to the other three. Only reason DSU is in the picture (my opinion) is because they want him to play football and basketball.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uM1v5ZimQ30

Considering he's a year older now I'm guessing he's bigger than the 230 he's listed at in the video. Rivals says 242 now. Wondering if they're looking at him as a DE rather than a LB. He looks like he has pretty good quickness for his size. The 40 time has to be embellished though. A 240# linebacker running a 4.6 would be getting recruited by Oklahoma.

I have a question; for the life of me, I don't understand the thinking that once a high school linebacker reaches the magically 230 to 245 lb. range, he is automatically

relegated to the d line; it's common knowledge that we had undersized linebackers (as has been stated on BV many times). Davis is obviously a talented linebacker who can run (4.5 forty)

According to rivals.com, Jacob Davis visited the weekend of the UNI game.

According to Dom, Davis gave a "soft" verbal yesterday. He is visiting Army, I think this weekend. My sense was that if they offer he is going there and not NDSU. If Army doen't offer, then he comes here. 6'2" and 246 lb LB. My guess is they will move him to DT? That's what they did to Reid who was a similar sized LB several years ago from WI. He, of course, got lost in the grand larceny scandal that got Johnson.

It's all about getting more speed at every position. It seems the tactic is to get kids with speed, add size to the them and move them to a new position. Safety to LB, LB to DE, DE to DT etc.
Obviously this kid could play LB if he has that kind of legit speed.

Like I said, there's no way he's running a true 4.5. He'd be on Oklahoma and Texas' radar then at that size. I'm going merely off past experience. You'd think that he'd put on a put few pounds once he gets on a collegiate strength training program and Joe Mays is the biggest LB that I can remember during the Bohl era and he was 245 as a senior.

I'd trust the coaches if they keep him at LB but if it's true that he's 242# as a high school senior I don't see him as a LB for the Bison. Mainly because we aren't going to get the type of atheletes here that a Texas or a Florida can get who can maintain the speed necessary to play D1 LB at that size. #mytwocents

We're stacked at DE right now. Size? Joe Mays is 5-11, 250 right now with the Broncos. But we, along with the Bears, run the Tampa 2. The Bears have guy named Brian Urlacher in the middle at 6-4, 258 and he can run. Of course I' not compring Jacob Davis to Brian Urlacher but 6-3, 230 with above average speed fits into the Tampa 2 just fine. Besides, if he's listed at 6-3, he's probably 6-2

Most of our DE's and DT's are typically taller,

Boyer 6-4
Jirik 6-4
Juckem 6-4
Drevlow 6-4
Emanual 6-3
Perry 6-3
Hagen 6-3
Hardie 6-5
Luekie 6-5
Lavoy 6-4

The only spot that is shorter is the DT tackle
Lisenby and Horvath are both 6-2 but they are more speed guys.

The guys were recruting are tall too... DE Pierce 6-6, McMakin 6-4
Farnloff 6-3 but he's playing DT
Amechi is 6-2 but he's clearly so athletic we would be idiotic to pass on him... and he's growing

Davis will play middle linebacker. Could he play line? yes. No need to put him thre. Trust me on that one.

Look, here is the deal. When weight training, you don't necessarily have to add weight. High school athletes are usually not very tone, and certainly have a lot to go in term of overall body strength. At that age it is just not possible to have been training long enough to have a highly developed musculature. This takes quite a few years of dedicated training. Just because he comes in at ~240 lbs doesn't mean that has to go up as he gets stronger. You can also develop athleticism and speed through specific training as long as he has the right muscle fibers and body structure to allow for this. Not every Bison that comes in as a freshman will follow the same weight training and nutrition program! That would be ridiculous.

Yes, the 4.6 is probably embellished. However, that doesn't mean Davis can't be a fast linebacker, and that doesn't mean he is relegated to playing DE or tackle.

Perhaps the most interesting for me was the thread on the NC game. The consensus on that board is that Jensen is a marginal FCS QB. funny considering their greaet QB out of DL threw 7 td's to 6 picks his jr year and 12 td's to 5 picks in only 89 attempts as a senior, which amounts to a pick every 18 passes. With numbers like that in high school, what happens in college? Good runner but I was one of the few here that questioned that. Just a correction, UND moved the students sections over one section, they did not eliminate any student seating. They are opening up some more seating in the middle of the field for season ticket holders with the difference being seats on that side do not require membership into the Champions Club (formerly Fighting Sioux Club). Was part of it due to very inconsistent student attendance? Most likely, but there was no seats taken from students.

PS - NDSU has a good looking recruiting class. Hoping that these kids get a chance to be part of a renewed rivalry sometime down the road.

I would assume preferred walk on

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxskUaBK2hs

Wow that kid is fast and quicker than hell! Quick feet damn. If he's our level of walkon than we are in a good position. Keep in mind that was his JR highlight.

PS - NDSU has a good looking recruiting class. Hoping that these kids get a chance to be part of a renewed rivalry sometime down the road.

It's turning into a loaded recruiting class. We need just a few more quality commits, and it could turn out to be great.

I don't want the games to come back until UND has a team that can finish in the upper tier of the Big Sky. Maybe that will come sooner than anyone thinks. None of this 'nothing to win...everything to lose' stuff for me. Nope

And once...just once...I'd like to hear a UND fan say that it was UND that canceled...without any other garbage mixed in...like..."well, NDSU shouldn't have moved up when they did...they ruined the rivalry & the conference." Just once...

North Dakota State moved up to rebuild its flagship program. It seems to have worked so far.

UND would do 'any-thing' to protect its hockey program...anything...because it's UND's flagship program. If the NCAA said that colleges couldn't play hockey anymore...UND would move its campus to Canada, or Europe.

Nothing personal...you seem like a reasonable person. Looks like you have a great QB prospect.

Looks like a solid class to my uneducated eye.

I think it looks incredible. This class has big time players, most with multiple offers. I am absolutely pumped by our WR's and defensive lineman. Pierce, Farnloff, Amechi and hopefully McMakin excite me as much as Jirik, Perry, and Juckem. Warren, Gray, and Woods is the best trio of receivers we have ever gotten. Warren and Gray were both rated in the top 5 in their states. Davis was all state and is big and fast. Then the lesser known guys we got were early commits and typically those guys are great. If the Lechler rumor is true, we have two 6-7 tackles with enough agility to be good basketball's players and a couple of giant guards. The JUCO backs brother is on the team and he was originally a Kansas State recruit. The icing on the cake would be getting 2 or 3 of these guys... Calvin Thomas, Brantley, Tarkington, Timph, or Hughes plus some quality walk ons. But as is this kicks ass. Only negative is missing out on sone of the o lineman

On areavoices Izzo suggests that it deals with grades and transfer credits. Assuming it all falls into place for the kid, sounds like he is coming. I think having a RB added to a very well rounded class, position wise, is a huge positive. But, I am obviously bias in my thinking in that you cannot have too many QBs, RB, DBs, or LBs, basically any position that ends with 'backer' :D

He plays fast and has really quick feet. He looks impressive on the field but his combine numbers are not that impressive. Maybe that's why he didn't get a ton of offers. He ran a 5.0 forty. Maybe he just had a bad day because he runs track and he has some good numbers. Not Ryan Smith fast but solid. He seems to improve year over year so he's probably no where near his potential. He looks GREAT on film. Amazing footwork. Makes people miss. What level of football is he at in Wisconsin?

Wissports.net ranked Perkins #36 overall, and the #8 RB (Marcus Horne was #3) in the senior class of 2012. They also had him as a sleeper pick for State Offensive Player of the Year in the pre-season. He reportedly drew some recruiting interest from Western Illinois and a bunch of top academic schools including Ivy League schools, so he must be an excellent student. Kewaskum plays in Division 3 in Wisconsin.

What level of football is he at in Wisconsin?

http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=850527
55 meters (59 yards)- 6.9
100 meters (109 yards)- 11.29
Long Jump - 20.5 feet

He could just be a kid that is super fast to 10 yards and then he's already standing straight up trying to accelerate. It might be just a matter of changing his running form getting that 5.0 down. Been there, done that.

I thought the 100 meters time looked good, the 40 time of 5.0 not so good, so I looked up some of Ryan Smith's best times in high school for comparison. Especially with similar sizes - 5'9" & 5'7'' & 175ish.

2010 - Ryan Smith

100 meters - 11.17
60 meters - 7.08

So like people are saying, that 40 time for Eric Perkins
may be misleading. Sure seemed to get where he needed to in the videos.

Arp is a good one. 6'7" is what he is listed in the basketball program. Ran a hand timed 4.37 forty at 225lbs. I know it is hand timed, but even when you add on to that, it is still pretty fast for someone with that size.
I was shocked at how fast this kid is. They showed his vid at the Teammakers deal last night and he blew people away!

If he is soo fast, why weren't there major schools all over him, given his size??

A 4.37 40, even if "hand-timed", is incredibly fast for that size (any size really)-->almost off the charts. Way better than anything Veldmen or Kliensauser (sp?) were ever even close to. Something doesn't seem right here.

Not sure where you got the times from, but I can assure you that Ryan's fastest 100M time is highschool was much faster than 11.17.

Ryan was running 11.17 in grade school.(Hyperbole, but not too far off)

11.2 is qualifying for state in ND, or at least it was when I ran. Ryan was one of the fastest kids in the state and I would be willing to bet he consistently ran 10.9 and occasionally popped down around 10.7

So, what's the deal with Arp??!! I thought I read that was a PWO, and people were thinking he was gonna go to UND. With this proclaimed skill set, even if we did offer him a scholly, he should have had dozens of offers. I mean, the kid is 6'7", runs like a tailback, has hands, etc.? What is the skinny hear??!!

He is a preferred walk-on, but Polasek said that he is talented enough that he may have been offered a scholarship in other years. Polasek said he is 6'4" or 6'5", not 6'6" or 6'7". He has good speed and he runs track, but he isn't going to be one of the fastest players at NDSU. They see him as a TE and they didn't have money for a TE this year. He played virtually every position in high school, including QB. In summary, a good local athlete with a big frame who is raw, but has good potential.

I saw him play Basketball on a couple of occasions and was impressed. He has pretty good feet and seems to get up and down the court very well. He catches the ball well and is a very efficient scorer inside of 15 feet. He is obviously long and will be able to add 30 to 40 lbs with no problem.

I did not see him play football so I have no idea how this skill-set translates to the aggressiveness needed to play in the MVFC. I seem to recall others having these same thoughts about Drevlow a few years ago, and he has turned out pretty good.

I wish him nothing but good luck as he begins his career at NDSU.

EdgyTim.com (Illinois high school site for Rivals.com) has a new article on the "Class of 2012: Five Steals." Dee Gray is one of their "five steals" from Illinois. It is a pay site, but they call Gray a "high level athlete" who will benefit from focusing on football (he is also a basketball player). He also has a "swagger and a bit of a mean streak." Bottom line is they like him--a lot!

By way of disclosure, UND's QB recruit, Ryan Bartels, also made the list.

Don't get me wrong when I question things/stats, etc., I am just one of those guys who subscribes to the "if it is too good to be true, then it probably isn't" school of thought.

Sorry if you thought I was saying they were his all-time best times (wasn't). The point being, while not Ryan Smith fast, as stated by Gabe, not too turtleish either for Eric Perkins. That 5.0 40 time kinda stood out.
The 100 meter time listed for Ryan was what they had from 2009's North Dakota State Track & Field Championships Sat, May 23. The 60 meter time listed was what they had from 2010's ND State indoor meet - class A - March 26
They also list a 10.7 from 2008's championship and 10.91 from 2007's championship.

Eric's times seem to hover around the 11.4 - 11.6 mark, but his personal bests have markedly improved each year. He really seems to come out of cuts fast which can be as important as straight line speed. I'm excited to have him.

This site here lists Bo Liekus as a big time steal

http://m.myhitnews.com/latest-nebraska-hs-class-of-2012-football-recruiting-news/

Ran the 100 meter twice and ran a 11.4.
http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=856338

Listed at a healthy 6-foot,195 lbs. and reportedly capable of blazing the 40 yard dash in 4.41 seconds,Bellevue West senior Bo Liekhus still somehow managed to fly just enough under the radar to garner little if any pre-season hype. Nevertheless, during the 2011 season the dynamic sure-tackling DB recorded the second most tackles in Class A (86 solo and 19 assisted) and scored two defensive touchdowns.

His total body of work was impressive enough for him to be selected a first team defensive back on both the 2011 Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska and Lincoln Journal Star Super-State teams. His first team selections are even more impressive when you consider that Bellevue West finished the season with a 3-7 record –history proves how difficult it is for an athlete to get even a second team slot when he is from a school with a losing record.

Earlier this month,Liekhus, who is still being courted by several D-1A schools, committed to D-1AA North Dakota State. It will be interesting to see if any of the D-1A schools will step up to the plate by February. I’ll just say,“Bo Liekhus’ speed, size and ability are going to be hard to pass by. So all you North Dakota State fans don’t get too comfortable with landing this stud.”

Isaac Aakre is another Millard North standout who worked out at multiple positions at NU's camp.

"Well, I thought I did well," Aakre said. "I had a lot of fun doing the DB stuff. That's something that I don't get to do much, so it was fun to do. I was mostly working at corner and I got to play some quarterback as well.

"I don't like to talk about myself, but I guess you could say quickness is one of my strengths."

Next on the agenda for Aakre will be camp stops at Iowa and Iowa State before he heads up to North Dakota State for their camp. He was recently informed that Air Force had verbally offered him, but since he has asthma that is not a realistic option for him.
