...That sensational performance from Heckendorf, one of the last of many in that illustrious career, is one that still rings strong with Bison fans and remains a mark of the dominant teams of the mid-2000's. To compare those teams that guided NDSU through the last of the transition years and the team facing the 2011-'12 season would be considered a stretch, but alongside key differences that allowed for comebacks like those against Cal Poly and earlier against Sam Houston State, one of the most glaring differences is depth at the receiver position.

The comparison of Heckendorf/Belquist to Vraa/Gebhart doesn't go too far beyond the same-year thing, but the opportunity these guys have is unreal. Gonna be fun to watch one or both of them make it happen on the field.

Zach Vraa, the Minnesota Mr. Football winner in 2010, emerges as the sure-handed, expert route-runner who will be an efficient receiver and can serve as a safety valve to quarterback Brock Jensen.

If he redshirted last fall, wouldn't the Mr. Football have been from 2009?

From '09-'10 if my math is right. Left out the '09 part.

I don't know about you guys but watching the spring game I didn't see anything spectacular from our receivers. I'm sure they will work their tail off this summer to be ready. I'm sure glad we still have Warren for another year. How is he coming along anyway?

Sorry for the passive aggressive humor. I just like that using that response when given the opportunity.

Don't think they dropped alot. Vraa had one and Gebhart had one batted away that he should of fought for.:hide:
You will see big things out of these two for the next 4 years

Good article DJ. I'd hope that these two can contribute, and that Warren will lead them with an outstanding senior season. I think it'll be a really nice trio of receivers...with help from DJ and Veldman. Some really good targets for two outstanding young quarterbacks. We will score our share, but the real keys to the season are sustained drives and having our defense live up to expectations.
