Carlson, running in heat 2 of 2 crosses the line 4th in her heat in 13.94 seconds.
Good for 987 points.

Olympic silver medalist Hyleas Fountain had the top time and ran in heat 2 as well, right next to Whitney. Fountain's time of 13.17 is good for 1,009 points to take the early lead

Leader Board After 1 Event (top 10)
Fountain: 1,099
Wade: 1,024
Krais: 1,021
Pearson: 1,011
Day: 1,000
McMillan: 988
Carlson: 987...........(She ran 13.75 for 1,014 points in the NCAA Championships)
Lettow: (Division 2 NCAA Champion) 964
Roehrig: 945
Stetschulte: 943

Next up for the Heptathalon is the High Jump.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it will be impossible for Whitney to be leading after this event since Hyleas Fountain (winner of the 100 hurdles) won this portion of the Hept. last year at 6' 2 3/4"!!:facepalm2:

IzzyFlexion
06-25-2011, 05:41 PM
Whitney clears her opening height on her first attempt at 1.45 meters and shortly thereafter clears 1.48 on her 1st try.

IzzyFlexion
06-25-2011, 05:44 PM
Carlson clears 1.51 meters on her 2nd attempt. (4' 11 1/2")

IzzyFlexion
06-25-2011, 05:48 PM
At 1.54 meters, makes it on her 2nd try. (5 feet, one half inch)

IzzyFlexion
06-25-2011, 05:59 PM
The bar goes to 1.57 (5' 1 3/4):
1st try: Miss
2nd try: Miss
3rd try: Miss

So, a bit disappointing for Whitney Carlson bowing out at 1.57.
She gets credit for 1.54 meters good for 666 points.

In the NCAA Championship she cleared 1.60 meters that resulted in 736 points.

IzzyFlexion
06-25-2011, 06:02 PM
After 2 events she's 97 points off the pace of her NCAA Championship performance. 1653/1750

IzzyFlexion
06-25-2011, 06:13 PM
Next up:
The Shot Put.

Hyleas Fountain won this event last year too throwing 45 feet, one half inch.

I demand a gender identification test on her NOW!*

*Obviously my self-esteem is at an all-time low since I've resorted to being unfunny to myself instead of the rest of you guys........................that aren't reading this anyway........................................shit am I a loser or what?

IzzyFlexion
06-25-2011, 06:33 PM
Bowing out is Bettie Wade (one of the favorites in the HJ)
Please don't confuse Bettie Wade with the author Betty Wont whose book "Will Lakesbison Ever Be Allowed To Return To Bisonville" held the number one spot in the NY Times Best-Seller list for 3 weeks this spring.

Whitney came in last in the Heptathalon shot put competition with a toss of 32' 0" adding 513 points to her total.

Even though she finished last, she improved on her NCAA performance by 1' 2 3/4". There she threw 30' 9 1/4" (489 points).

She is now 73 points below the pace she was on during the NCAAs.

Chantae McMillan fro the University of Nebraska won the Heptathalon shot put with a distance of 48' 4" (good for 844 points)

IzzyFlexion

The final Heptathalon event today is coming up in just a couple of minutes.
200 meter dash.

This was a good event for Carlson at the NCAAs where she recorded a time of 24.37 earning her 945 points as she placed 3rd.

Log onto the site people. This will be broadcast live coming up next on the track!

IzzyFlexion
06-25-2011, 08:39 PM
NBC takes over the broadcast but not until 4:00 which will be too late to see the Hept. 200 meters.

IzzyFlexion
06-25-2011, 08:49 PM
Good showing in the 200 meters for Whitney coming in 3rd in her heat at 24.54 seconds.

Appears as though Whitney's gotten a little too much sun today!:)

After the 200 meters, Carlson drops 13 more points off of her NCAA pace.
After the first day of competition she is 89 points behind the pace of NCAA performance.

The key tomorrow will be the Javelin Throw.
This, along with the shot and HJ are her weakest events. She needs to PR in the Javelin, win the Long Jump (very possible)*, and have another gutty 800 meters to finish in the middle of the pack.

*Hyleas Fountain won the LJ last year with a whopping leap of 22' 3 1/2". Whitney jumped 20' 3/4" at the NCAAs.

I'm not really PO'd. Just havin' some fun. I love track & field.

In high school, I threw the shot put 89 feet shattering the ND state record but was disqualified because during my follow through my shirt lifted exposing my prom dates tiny panties sunk deeply into my blubbery waistline. Who knew that was against the rules?

Hept. LJ starts in 3 minutes.

IzzyFlexion
06-26-2011, 06:19 PM
Whitney's 1st jump:
6.24 meters
20' 5 3/4.
good start.
924 points in she doesn't get a better.

IzzyFlexion
06-26-2011, 06:23 PM
WC is the leader after 1 jump.

IzzyFlexion
06-26-2011, 06:26 PM
Whitney's 2nd jump:
Foul.

IzzyFlexion
06-26-2011, 06:30 PM
After 2 rounds in the Hept. LJ Whitney still has the leading mark at 6.24 meters.
All of the athletes now have at least 1 fair mark.

IzzyFlexion
06-26-2011, 06:41 PM
Whitney's 3rd attempt in the Long Jump:
Shit!!!
Whitney appeared to land at or slightly beyond 21 feet but I believe that it was ruled a foul. But....the jackass announcer did say one way or the other but judging by WC's reaction it appeared to have not counted:ranting:

Then, the announce said: And the winner of the Women's Heptathalon Long Jump is...........then the god damned feed went out again.

However, it was Carlson that took the event. Just don't know if her last jump counted or not. At the very least she scored 924 points in this event.

IzzyFlexion
06-26-2011, 06:46 PM
Fountain is still the overall leader after 5 events but now only 7 points ahead of Bettie Wade.

And....of course, they're only announcing and showing the first 8 so I don't know where Carlson is at this point.
I gotta believe she moved up to at least 11th and possibly 10th after the LJ win.

IzzyFlexion
06-26-2011, 06:50 PM
Now the remaining athletes standing are being shown on the jumbotron.

Whitney only climbed one position and now sits 11th with 4,023 points which is 520 points behind the leader, Hyleas Fountain.

IzzyFlexion
06-26-2011, 06:53 PM
In the NCAA Championship meet in Des Moines, Carlson's Long Jump win measured 6.32 meters which gave her 949 in that event.

IzzyFlexion
06-26-2011, 06:59 PM
After 5 events, our little Herdster is 114 points behind the pace that she set at the NCAAs.
Tough to make up much of that in the final 2 events.

C'mon girl.......chuck that frickin' Javelin.

Javelin competition starts in about 33 minutes.

Tune in people.

I'd forgotten that Whitney was also competing in Women's Long Jump.
They just showed her jump live. It looked like she blasted a pretty good leap and seemed happy with, though distance was announced.

Waiting for the results(after commercial break), but I think Whitney finished mid-pack in the middle of a pack in the 800m. Maybe 6th?

Apparently only the top 3 are important. Have to wait for Izzy to get the detailed results.

IzzyFlexion

Great showing in the 800 for Whitney getting tough in the final 300 meters. I think she crossed in 5th but no times posted yet.
The girl from Kansas State BLEW the rest of the field away by perhaps 4-6 seconds!

Haven't seen her time yet, but she wasn't that far back of the leaders. The top three and maybe 4 were under 2 minutes.
