having a "discussion" with fizz fans, and the question came up when did NDSU start transition to DI, I am saying it was 2004. They are claiming that NDSU was transitional in 2003 (when you beat them in Missoula)

2003 was year one of our transition but at the time the NCAA allowed schools to still be in DII for the first year.

I've seen it both ways. 2003 was the "provisional year" and that was followed by four years of transition. Sometimes people count the provisional year, sometimes they don't.

Honestly it doesn't matter if we we're officially D1 since we only had 38 D2 scholarships at the time we beat the Griz. Now of course we have 63 .

36 was the DII limit at the time.

NDSU was in it's exploratory year in 2003 and was still in DII.
