So we draw the #1 overall seed in ASU. Are we really the worst RPI team making the tournament? I am highly doubting it. WHAT A JOKE of seeding by the selection committee. Time to shock the softball world AGAIN!

Some random observations...

Hmm... We're 114. Of the teams that are in the tournament,
Harvard is 82? and they're in the #8 AZ regional,
Western Michigan is 108 and we run-ruled them 12-4 in 6 and they end up in #10 Michigan's regional,
Iona is 131 and are in #9 Oklahoma,
Liberty is 134 and are in #14 Tennessee,
Albany 141 and visiting #13 Oregon,
158 Lehigh is in #11 Baylor,
153 Portland St. is with #12 WA,
180 Sacred Heart gets to visit #16 Tx A&M, and
186 is Bethune-Cookman and is in #4 FL regional.

Some additional notes: loss to San Diego St 2-3 (RPI 39), beat UCF 2-1 (RPI 95), beat Memphis 2-0 (RPI 43) and lose to Kentucky 4-5 in 8 (RPI 22). Of course, big losses to other top 25/top 50 RPI teams don't help (FL, UCLA, MO, GA account for 8 losses which are almost 1/3 of the total) .

It's always said that part of seeding is travel, so Western Michigan gets to go to Ann Arbor, and Portland St gets to go to Washington, and the Missouri regional has Indiana, Illinois St and DePaul, the GA regional is similar - all schools in the vicinity, etc. Others don't make sense... Auburn to WA, UCLA to FL. So yeah, travel might be a consideration; it seems that we could've remained closer to home.

In the end it seems like there's still no respect. We could have been placed in a friendlier regional. Yes... they're all tough, but there's a difference between, let's say top 1-4 vs 13-16, and we get #1 this year? (we got #3 last year I think). The committee could have been friendlier to us. Based on RPI and seeing what schools are in with comparable or lesser RPI we could've been placed against a 10-14... And this is our 3rd year in! I think that should deserve some consideration.

Anyways, congratulations coaches and ladies!!!

Thanks for the great info. So looking at the regionals you listed there is no reason why we shouldn't have ended up at Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M, or Baylor. Geographically none of those #4 seeds has any close approximation to those sites making them very interchangeable. I think the most glaring one is Sacred Heart. Send the worst RPI to the worst National overall seed in Texas A&M? Its almost like they got it flipped flopped in the order in which the national seeds hosted which RPI rating. You put us at Texas A&M and we have a serious shot at making the Super Regional.

One (albeit minor) positive side effect is that Arizona should be a workable trip for the California parents, friends, and family... Having said that, sheesh.

So it might be on ESPN U but could be on ESPN3.com also.

Its not on the current schedule on Direct TV for Friday, but they are subject to change.

If I remember correctly there are 8 teams with lower RPI ratings than us. For the life of me I can't understand why we drew the top seed in the entire tournament two years in a row.
It is what it is...a great chance to shock the softball world.

I am a SDSU fan!!! I live in Chandler Az. I am planning on going to the Softball game and cheer for the Bison. If SDSU can't be here, NDSU is the next best thing. If things go right, SDSU baseball at ASU.

Tournament is on!

San Diego State and Long Beach State both are getting some hits, but no score after an inning and a half.

I think SDSU and LBSU play on about the same level as NDSU.

If the bison can't win the whole enchilada (and I'm not saying they can't), maybe they have a decent shot at the second game tomorrow.
