As you know I'm going to be doing some stuff to prepare for what could be NDSU's Last Stand in the next Legislative session.

Some research topics:

A list of building projects at universities in the last 10 years along with the amount the state actually ponied up.
Full-time, on-campus enrollment data for the last 10 years
State appropriations for the last 10 years
Sneaky additions to university budgets over the last ten years. You know, the special projects that get tacked on by the legislature for their local college.Once there's data 10 years back, then I'll ask for 20 (if I'm still involved in the project.)

Also, where can I find out how this new welding building that Dosch was patting himself on the back for having built? I have some questions about that I think I'll ask Al Carlson and I want to be sure that I'm 100%, balls-on accurate. :)

Couldn't you just do a FOIA request for the NDUS Budgets for the past 10-20 years? That way you would be able to sift through it with a comb to see most of what you are looking for.

This NDUS site has many publicly available documents that may help as well.

It has to be online so anything I post is linked to a supporting document and I don't even know where to look for the sneaky stuff.

Besides, I asked for some information 10 years ago... still haven't got it.

I have nothing to add, but I appreciate people putting time towards this. Unfortunately, the right people don't seem to care but maybe that'll change.

Wow, the PDF format with the budget info doesn't let you copy text (that I can see.) I hate that.

Which one are you looking at, they both work for me?

It could be a the version of Acrobat I have. That PDF is not even searchable.

Can anybody see where Holmberg came up with the $39.1 million in building projects at NDSU?

It's 36.1 million. Page 51 of that report.

So, that's what I saw too except it's on page 49*. Is any of that $36.1 million funded by state tax dollars?

*Oh, I see, it's labeled page 49 in the PDF but it's really the 51st page (because page numbers don't include title pages.)

No. Page 64 shows zero general fund dollars.

Maybe he is adding in the 3,004,927 for capital assets. But that line item is for things other than buildings.

Could some of it be for the Minard project? That's money from previous legislative sessions, but I wouldn't put it past him to count it twice.

I've made a searchable copy of the PDF, but too big to upload as an attachment. Any ideas?

Well, I guaran-freaking-tee you that the Legislature didn't spend 39.1 million on Minard :).

$39.1 million probably represents what the Legislature spent on NDSU building projects in the last five session - if so, then it probably only rose to over 50% funding for any project other than Minard and its 75 years of deferred maintenance. That place was falling down when my parents were students 50 years ago.

The state gave $5,000,000 and $13,000,000 in general fund money for the Minard project in the past two bienniums (07/09) and (09/11).

Where did you find that?

Look in HB 1003, under Section 8. Page 15 of the document.

This money is not included in the 11-13 totals.
