NDSU is requesting permission from the SBOHE to renovate Stevens Auditorium. Someone has donated $340,000 to the NDSU Development Foundation for the project. I would guess not much has changed in there since it was built in the 1966.

Anyone have any favorite memories of Stevens Auditorium?

Mine was in the spring of 2001...The first day of "Beer Appreciation" was held in there...My guess is 75% of the class was drunk (6 pm start) and bottles were rolling down between the seats. It also smelled like a brewery that night.

It was the best 1 credit class ever!

2 things both from Zoology with Grier.

First day of class he showed us the video of a whale being blown up

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vmnq5dBF7Y

Which I am pretty sure was before youtube, so he has a VHS or something of this somewhere.

Second is him bringing in his Eagles and letting them fly around.

Snooze fest room.... hard to stay awake in there, however if you did (and that's all you did) it is amazing how easy tests would be.

I always thought Stevens was pure luxury compared to the old Festival Hall!

For those too young to remember:

Yes, they actually held classes in there!

The one thing I remember about that place was taking PSYCH 110 from some lady professor (forgot her name) and she was lecturing about split brains, and how the two halves can be detached and still have a functioning human. Well, that kind of thing just for some reason makes me nauseous and feel sick when I hear about it (I'm feeling it now as I type), and after a few minutes of this lecture, I RACED outside and PUKED UP A STORM in the bushes. Then I spit the rest out and calmly walked back into the hall.

One of the football players and a friend of mine was sitting in the chair next to me, and asked "Where did you go all of a sudden?" I said, "Had to puke."

Ever wonder how stuff like that gets hypothesized, and then how they get a volunteer to test it?

It's still an extreme treatment for epilepsy and buthockey syndrome*. Used as a last resort to prevent seizures in one half of the brain from migrating to the other. Probably developed by the same crew that thought lobotomies were a perfectly good treatment tool.

As for Stevens, think I took 2 or 3 classes there. Geology and a chem or two. Sadly, no good stories.

*sorry, too easy to resist

My best one was freshman year during intro to psych. I fell asleep and started snoring...loudly...it was bad enough that the teacher stopped lecturing and yelled something at me, I immediately woke up and was pretty embarrassed.

Not the best but oh well...

That whale video kicks my ass every single time. I know that area very well and it is not in the least surprising that they tried it.

Thats cool I didnt know he was on Johny Carson!

How about this Steven's hall memory? I wasn't there but I heard about it, I am not sure might be faked. Personally my biggest memory is Ochem final in there last semester and how hard it was,but I still found a way to get an A!! Steven keeps on making memories for me haha, I get to do another O chem final again on Monday!

The best part is how sure they were it was going to work.

Another quick one.

The absolutely smoking hot adorable little blonde girl that I sat next too in Chemistry II. I forget her name and I have no idea what ever happened to her, but she was the only reason I ever went to class. :)

So, $840,000 total. I don't know if one can do much with that kind of money...

Renovating an auditorium? Perhaps not.
But, I consider 42,000 lap dances "MUCH"

LOL, I'm not saying I wouldn't mind having 840 large (In fact, if I had 840K, I don't even know what I would do, probably get my own apartment right away and move out of the single room in a basement I live in now). I didn't have enough money in my checking account today to buy toilet paper. I don't live well. Life sucks when you're a foreigner in another country and are not eligible for a job...

And that pic freaks me out. :rimshot:

Haha, I was in that class! Pretty sure I was half dead the next morning. Wasn't there a second day of that class at the Doublewood the next day?

I'm pretty sure there was only one gift. The state board agenda did not disclose who the donor was. Thanks Gate City!

Is it just me or does someone else wish we were going to the BHoHE for permission to start the BSA remodel after receiving a couple more gifts?

Had back-to-back classes in Stevens my Sophomore year. I could never stay awake for a full class in that lecture hall. I once fell asleep during Geology only to wake up with different people sitting next to me and my Chemistry professor behind the podium. I casually switched books and then likely went back to sleep for the remainder of Chemistry.

Also, not really my story, but someone decided to ditch their beat-up Huffy bike in front of my roommates' and my college house. After about two weeks of the bike sitting their unclaimed, we decided the loser of our Madden Football tournament had to "Ghost Ride (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qucMiaknozM&t=0m11s)" the bike at full speed into the bike racks in front of Stevens Hall, where there was always a bunch of people standing around waiting for the lecture hall to empty out, and walk into class like a boss or like nothing happened. Not getting that event on video is one of my biggest regrets in life.

Cool, I have a physics class in there this fall. I wonder if it will still be in Stevens then? I just hope they get new seats, the current ones are very uncomfortable, also the mic sometimes gets horrible feedback. Hopefully Gate City is as nice as Sudro's auditorium or better!

The Forum today said the chairs would come with tablet arms. I don't know if that means tablets will be built into the arms, or if they will be built for tablets(power, etc).

Also, I was a few yards away from Dalrymple today. It's possible Carlson was there as well. Too bad I was all out of cream pies.

Be careful, you don't want the NDHP after you(or hack bloggers releasing your information)!
