Bohl said Iowa won't play us, Nebraska could make sense. I guess it would depend on if Bohl is ready to return to Lincoln, he didn't exactly leave on the greatest of terms.

Before they played SDSU last season Bo Pelini said it wasn't his choice to play an FCS team (the deal having been sealed before he got there) and that if he had it his way it wouldn't happen again. A regional Big Ten team would be solid.

I think that would be huge. I'm tellin ya Illinois is a goldmine of talent. 5th largest state. We play SIU, ISU, WIU in football so we already have annual trips out there. Now we just need to legitimize ourselves in the eyes of average Illinois people by beating the big time school. There is a reason the MVFC is so good. Illinois has talent. We've had success there.

We COULD beat one of them. Not saying we would or should, but we have enough to do it. It'd really do a lot for recruiting if we beat both of them back-to-back years or something like that.

Maybe we'll have a chance to go "toe-to-toe" with Idaho. Gene would have to rent a local farmer's qwonset for that week's practices so the boys could get used to playing in the HUGE Kibbie Dome.

He is also an Ex-NDSU player (back-up QB) from the glory 80's. I have my own thoughts of his FB playing abilities and mental toughness, but I will just say that he may be remembering what the 80-90 Bison teams were like, and does not want to risk the chance of an upset. Back then, it could have happened, and I think we are at the point where the chance of an upset over a major program is becoming more plausible.

Disappointed? Other than it not being @ Wisconsin, not sure how this could be a disappointment. We work on scheduling teams that potentially could be beaten and in our recruiting footprint. DING and DING. How did beating Kansas work out? Got us in the playoffs and we get into Kansas and pull two very good recruits. WIthout that game, we don't get them.

K-State is a legit Big 12 team. They have a great outdoor environment. It is smalltown living with a Big 12 team. It is a fun place to watch a game. Another great job by Gene if you ask me. I am very happy with this news. I estimate about a 9 hour drive. SD....you will love it down there!

I've been to several KState football games. It's a great atmosphere. Tailgating is huge, makes Iowa State look like amateurs. If it's an afternoon game tailgating starts about 5AM and goes until dark.

Get rooms at the Holiday Inn; it's within easy walking distance of Aggieville, 3-4 blocks of bars and restaraunts. It's also a relatively short walk to the football stadium. Students have to buy season tickets so there should be plenty available to buy on Craigslist or even at tailgating. The biggest problem will be parking.

All of their games are televised so I imagine someone will pick it up for those that can't make it.

It's similar to Bison tailgating. Keep it in a cup and you can drink what you want. If you aren't smart enough to follow that rule they will take you away. They have security on golf carts going through the tailgating lots picking up garbage bags and sampling food. It's pretty laid back. I've been there when they played KU and Nebraska. Tailgaters are mixed together and I haven't heard of any problems with that.

There is a large reserved tailgating lot, and 3-4 larger first come first serve lots. The reserved lot is for season ticket holders who pay a healthy fee to have that right.

On another note; I have a BIL who is a professor at KSTATE. He's an NDSU grad. His son is a big Bison fan. After the Bison beat KU he wore one of his Bison jerseys to school (8th grade). I hear that in South Dakota, most people who hold degrees from both SDSU and USD tend to be huge SDSU supporters. Most of these people have their Bachelors from SDSU and masters from USD. Reason being that a person tends to have more emotional attatchment to their undergrad school.

I'm currently going to school at Seneca College in North York Ontario (after I got my degree from NDSU) and all I can tell you is that the school's mascot is the Sting. I have less than zero interest in any sports this school offers (curling is a school-sponsored sport, if you can believe it). I have no attachment whatsoever with anything having to do with Seneca that's not related to my specific program that I'm studying in.

It's Canadian college athletics anyway (not university, COLLEGE, it's smaller than the CIS), which is something that I think actually a negative number of people care about.

It makes sense for us. That would mean for the next decade, NDSU would only lose a home game in 2015. The next game in GF would be in 2019, which is a 12-game season.

In regards to UND in 2013, Dom Izzo doesn't buy it. Per his Twitter when asked:

No openings for #NDSU or #UND in 2013, earliest possible to play is 2014

I believe [12-game schedule] is 2013, but Gene Taylor and Bohl have held firm on only playing 11

I guess my question would be if you can get another home game that will be sold out (and an easy one according to y'all :)), why not do it 2013 if it's a 12 game schedule? Just for the extra bye week? Does that seem worth it to some of you? Coach Bohl and Taylor has always said they don't have an interest in a 12th game. No need to schedule an extra game with the rugged MVFC schedule and a deep run in the playoffs will guarantee more than 11 games anyway. I tend to agree with them I'd rather have the 12th game be in the playoffs.

2014 it is.

2008 was the last time 12 game schedules were allowed.

In the playoffs teams that played 12 games went 11-5 while teams that played 11 games went 4-9. That national title game featured two teams that played 12 game schedules, Montana and Richmond. UNI that year, played 12 games and reached the semifinals.

Honestly I'd go ahead and play 12. Many teams did it in 2008 and I don't think it hurt the better teams all that much. Honestly it is another game to get seven wins or beef up the resume, plus a chance to make some money. Really with the potential of a first round bye and another long break if the team reaches the title game, 12 games in 2013 isn't quite the grind it was in 2008.

A two-for-one against UND? So 2 guaranteed sellouts and a game up the road an hour to make the good fans happy they can hit up a road game....sounds simple enough to me. And if UND doesn't get a lot better, sounds like 3 wins.

This isn't a knock against Hambone, who is a good poster, but the und crowd always tries to pull the "I can't believe you won't schedule us. Think of the sellout!" argument.

Unlike the 7,000 people that show up to watch certain schools lose to Sioux Falls, our fans routinely fill the dome. Sellouts against Austin Peay, CCSU, etc. debunk the uneducated assertion that we somehow need the und game to salvage attendance.

Excellent points NDSUstudent! Teams that go deep into the playoffs don't shy away from competition. They usually have enough depth and confidence at each position that a few injuries don't ever get in way. My belief is teams wavering on skill and confidence will be weeded out during the season or early in the playoffs regardless if they play a 11 or 12 game schedule.
Bring on the competition Gene and Craig (that is what you used to say)! Schedule 12 games when possible. My preference is to see 2 games against FBS teams when 12 games are allowed.

So, based on all of this discussion, we can clearly conclude one thing:

Lakes must still be banned.

So, you have insider information the the new nickname will be " Clusterfv>k"

They got the idea from Mussman.

Actually, I believe the last time there was such an epic Clusterfv>k, the name chosen was "BadlandsBison".

As a fan I would concur with the two FBS games and playing 12... but I understand Gene/Craig's preference on this one. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I understand it. The nice part is NDSU isn't dying for the extra revenue so the decision can be made (at least partly) on other factors. I'm figuring most schools don't have that luxury.

This was posted on Siouxsports. I linked the Sioux Football Insider page where the tweet was posted.

If it's posted somewhere else here then feel free to delete this post. Also sorry if this gets the smack talk ramped up again...

I can't find a darn thing in the link that says anything about resuming the game. Is it the wrong link? Looks like just a roster update.

Jeff Kolpack and Dom Izzo both just posted to Twitter the news that the Bison will play Kansas State in 2013.

Edit: A story (http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/319100/group/homepage/) is now on Inforum.com.

I thought I had seen this rumor somewhere else in the forums. Glad there's some confirmation now. I'm there!!

On another note; I have a BIL who is a professor at KSTATE. He's an NDSU grad. His son is a big Bison fan. After the Bison beat KU he wore one of his Bison jerseys to school (8th grade). Most of the kids and teachers thought it was pretty cool. I'm afraid he'll be wearing purple for that game though.

We're in between KU and KState and my kid wears NDSU gear to school and FB practice all the time. He's a born Jayhawk but after witnessing the Bison beat KU, he's on the Bison bandwagon. Wore Bison clothes for a week straight after that game and all the K State fans thought it was just a kick in the nuts to the Jayhawk fans until he explained he was a "Real Bison Fan and his Dad went to NDSU".

In regards to UND in 2013, Dom Izzo doesn't buy it. Per his Twitter when asked:

Not to self-quote, but here's Jeff Kolpack's Twitter take:

Chances of Bison head coach wanting 12 games in any season is slim to none, with an emphasis on none.

Bohl said Iowa won't play us, Nebraska could make sense. I guess it would depend on if Bohl is ready to return to Lincoln, he didn't exactly leave on the greatest of terms.

I personally would like seeing NDSU paly the HAWKs. I moved to bismarck 2 yrs ago, but grew up in the cedar rapids / iowa city are before my wife drug me up here :-)

I think the reason the hawks wont play NDSU is because ferentz prefers to keep the local DIAA teams fed, so UNI and EIU have been the few weve played recently but as most fans we want to play all DIA teams to help our national image when it comes to rankings and bowls.

Iowa does not have the luxury the big schools have of getting recongnition whether they earned it or not. OKLA could go 4-0 in the non conf playing FCS schools and Sun Belt schools and they would be top 5, where as Iowa would get backlash from all the media be lucky to be the top 25.

I think it would be awesome if NDSU continues there current path and can make the jump to DIA in the next 5-10 yrs and maybe join the WAC or Mountian West. if NDSU can keep knocking off the DIA schools it will make them very attractive to the FBS system.

p.s. please beat the goofers this yr :-)
