Early Tuesday night, we're in the thick of Championship Week across the NCAA. Two game were just decided on last-second shots as a buried three-pointer with 1.5 seconds left pushed Arkansas-Pine Bluff past North Texas into the NCAA Tournament, and a cross-court dash for a layup moved South Florida past a struggling Villanova to stay alive in the Big East.

Two years after the same kind of shot blazed NDSU into the national tournament, Bison fans are left scratching their heads after their second loss in as many years in the conference tournament.

Thought some BV'ers might enjoy some discourse on this subject.

Great article, Kyle. I completely agree with your conclusion:


So the standard has to be improvement; it will take a few years to return to that level. Most schools enter Division-I to stew in mediocrity for a decade before they have the kind of shot NDSU had, and that's the reality. Bison fans are seeing players like Taylor Braun do a little bit of everything and they feel optimistic. They see TrayVonn Wright throw up highlight-reel dunks night in and night out, and they feel that warmth that bespeaks hope. They see Mike Felt drain buckets from deep, and they think "Hey, we might have a pretty darn good team in a year or two."

Guess what? They're right.
