Interesting read on Pohlen picking UMD. Says he was going to walk on at ndsu in football or basketball over offer from Bemidji.

I saw Kyle Washington play in person this January. He tore up my HS team, of course (BSM is the biggest rival of SLP). Depending on if his recruitment stock is good and gets some DI offers, we should definitely try to snag him. Though with his #2 ranking in the state, he may be good enough to go to a Power-Six school.

i am thrilled about this news, obviously the vaughn recruit was josh's brother.

is that the major league baseball player Barry Wohler's son?

great talent, MSUM should be a D2 powerhouse in the upcoming years.

It's funny, my first thought was to see where Augie's incoming recruits were on that list (not that many NDSU people will care, I'm sure), but I know Augie was going after Vaughn pretty hard before he ultimately decided to choose Moorhead. That said, he would've been a nice piece added to this list:

6. Zach Huisken, 6-foot-9, PF/C, SW Minnesota Christian

11. Casey Schilling, 6-foot-5, SF, Ellsworth (26.2 ppg)

19. Joe Burt, 6-foot-3, SG, St. Cloud Cathedral

I do think this list is a little outdated though, as I know Vaughn was a more highly-touted recruit at the end of his senior year than he might've been when this list was published.

That said, it's exciting as an Augie fan either way. Throw in Iowa's top-ranked player to go D2 in big man Daniel Jansen, and I'm hoping the Vikes will be able to continue their success as well. Definitely a strong recruiting class for the NSIC this year for a number of teams.

Ryan James, formerly the recruiting guru for MnPreps, is now the lead writer at Northstar Hoops Report (http://www.northstarhoopsreport.com/page/show/454912-welcome-to-northstar-hoops-report). Their rankings of 2012 prospects in Minnesota were last updated in March. There is no doubt that MSU-Moorhead, Augustana, and the NSIC in general did very well. Here's how the recruits stack up in the latest rankings for the Dragons and Vikings:

MSU-M
14. Brady Wohler
16. Tyler Vaughan
22. Matt Nelson
26. Damien Reinke

Augustana
8. Zach Huisken
17. Casey Schilling
36. Joe Burt

I can see why Saul doesn't bother recruiting Minnesota heavily.

If its the ryan james i am thinking of... i used to work with him and play pick up hoops with him. He knows his shit about recruits. Didnt he work for rivals too?

Yes. He is the definitive source for Minnesota hoops recruiting.

Yep, because not one of those kids was a D1 recruit. Great kids, great kids and they are going to play at the level they belong. Good D2 players.

Although I don't disagree with you, I know Huisken was offered by SDSU and I believe a couple of other smaller D1s, but I can't name them (other than SDSU) so I could easily be mistaken. Not that it means much anyway. Plus, I'm sure NDSU fans have probably lost most of their interest in this thread as it is.

He's probably too skinny as an incoming freshman, but looking at his raw skills, he should be a stud, particularly at the D2 level. I believe he chose Augie more because of the private, Christian school aspect (which I heard his parents were also pushing for) rather than an inability to play D1.

Anyway, I'll stop now. Like I said, I'd imagine most NDSU fans couldn't care less.

Huisken wanted to be at a small local school. He's from Southwest Christian in Edgerton, MN. It's a small private school filled with Dutch kids that send kids to all the private NAIA schools in Iowa and South Dakota, specifically Dordt and USF. Great kid, but didn't have the desire to play at a higher level. I believe UNI was talking to him and he had more offers, but I don't remember who. It doesn't matter anymore and he'll be a star at Augie.

I don't think it's a matter of caring less. I would imagine MN will always be grounds that Saul and the staff keep heavy tabs on and they will be on the good kids to come out with D1 potential. Great steal with Bjorklund as well as others and it will happen again. I see NDSU football got a great athlete out of that group which is awesome.
