There is a Zachariah Colvin, freshman, in the NDSU directory. I think he may have had academic issues, but please don't quote me on that.

He's attending NDSU right now and working on his grades.

Great! That could help the CB situation. I've been worried about the CB's as well.

That's good. Hope he gets his business in order. Forgot about him. Found some numbers on him ran a 4.35 40 yard dash. We need depth at corner.

Bison Media Blog stated In August that Colvin was having NCAA Clearinghouse issues.

Glad to hear he is in school! Go back and watch the tape on this kid. Not only is he fast he's a big hitter and great tackler for a CB.

I think he will play as a Freshman and really help our depth at CB.

I agree. Seems to be very aggressive.

Thats faster than any CB from last years NFL combine! makes it almost unbelievable. actually thats faster than everyone at the combine except one WR.
WR ----------
Ford, Jacoby 4.28
Price, Taylor 4.41
Sanders, Emmanuel 4.41
Tate, Golden 4.42
Banks, Brandon 4.43
Williams, Kyle 4.43
Easley, Marcus 4.46
Roberts, Andre 4.46
Long, Scott 4.46
Mitchell, Carlton 4.49

CB -------

Ghee, Brandon 4.45
Cook, Chris 4.46
Owusu-Ansah, Akwasi 4.47
Pender, David 4.47
Jackson, Kareem 4.48
McCourty, Devin 4.48
Thomas, Kevin 4.48

------

Imagine if other stats were recorded as inaccurately as 40 times lol. Lets say for some players we will call 2 feet a yard instead of 3 feet.

All of the sudden DJ has 2338.5 yds rushing this season 8.4 yds per carry lol. Inaccurate statistics are pointless. I dont understand why a 40 is even mentioned if its complete bullshit.

I understand that you just read it from the article gabe.

High schoolers 40 times are frequently faster than NFL Combine times. By the time they reach the Combine, those players have put on 40+ lbs from their high school days. Weight is a speed killer. Just because that 40 time is fast, doesn't make it wrong.

Hand-held vs. laser times are usually different.

This^ is exactly what I have been trying to tell Gabe and others who compare 40 times from a youTube highlight film of recruits or times that are otherwise stated for recruits. True 40 times are obtained through some sort of electronic means, even to the point of having "triggers" that go off as soon as a foot moves from the starting position. Hand-held timers can be .2-.4 or .5 off. Weight seldom effects negatively 40 times for offensive or defensive skill players if it is muscle weight. In fact, that normally improves it by increasing initial explosion time.

Thank God somebody on this board actually understands this concept.

I agree with your post but the only time I questioned a 40 time is when the Forum posted Okland ran a 4.6. Then a few weeks later reported 4.7 when his website said 4.5 and then everyone assumed he was slow when in fact he looks fast.

This kid probably does not run a 4.35. Its probably a 4.45 which is still fast as hell.

Those are some crazy fast times. I wonder if Chris Cook's time is down a bit due to the knee injuries.

According to Bison Media blog--working on academic standing. Will not play spring ball.

If there was a clearing house issue then he would need two semesters right?
With a kid like this could they do summer school and fall semester then be eligible for Spring Ball?

Zach is still listed in the NDSU directory.

Any word if this kid will join the team when school starts?

Zach is listed in the 2011 preseason media guide as on the fall roster.

https://admin.xosn.com/pdf8/768292.pdf?KEY=ESCGMXLDZMFCRNT.20110620160136&DB_OEM_ID=2400

However, he is not listed on the Go Bison website roster.

http://www.gobison.com/SportSelect.dbml?SPSID=11845&SPID=695&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=2400&SORT_ORDER=2&Q_SEASON=2011&PRINTABLE_PAGE=

So, who knows. I guess I am not too shocked that the two don't agree despite the fact that the same group puts the two pieces together.

Thanks BisonNeil. I missed him on the 2011 media preveiw.

This is HUGE for NDSU. This kid is physical and can flat out play anywhere you want him to. With the addition of Colvin, the secondery for the Bison is going to be one of the defensive strengths for the next three years +. I believe this kid has as much potential as Marcus Williams. Now, he just has to show it. (Needs to put on 15 lbs, though)
