I'll take the Ducks. Newton and his crew should not have even been in this game. They should have lost on Sept. 18 to a Clemson team that took them to OT even though Clemsen's QB got injured, but continued to play. Clemsen initially tied Auburn in OT on a field goal, but it was called back for false start. The next attempt failed. Also, Clemsen had a chance to win the game in regulation, but their QB missed a wide open receiver, because he was having a difficult time throwing because of his injury. I don't think Auburn can handle the Duck's offense.

Just kidding. That is just a phase that Essig says at every game, right before kickoff. It is likened to the power of positive thinking, I guess. It has become institutionalized. He almost sings it, with a certain tone and conviction. The crowd often accompanies Essig in the quote, even when it is raining at the time.

For what it is worth, Eugene has some of the best football weather early in the year that I have ever been a part of. Gets a little, er, damp in November, though...

The state is electric today. If the Ducks win tonight, Portland and Eugene will be crazy.

Does anyone else think there is way too much time between the conference champ games and the BCS bowl games? I understand it is a thrill for some schools to play on national tv, but I am sick of watching crappy, rusty football for a championship game. I understand the kids have finals and tests, but wouldn't you rather watch a game where the two supposed best teams are playing each other without being rusty?

First, I thought there were some terrible play calls by the Ducks OC--especially some of those stupid as misdirection-players running east and west at the1-2 yardline.

Second, Newton's NFL stock just plummetted!! If he declares, he may end up a second or third round pick!

Just my thoughts on game for whatever the hell they are worth.

Well at least the student athletes that that are male, and that play football, and that play football at the FBS level. I'm echoing Bill Simmons' sentiment by saying, Congrats to Auburn for winning the 2011 title. And congrats in advance to Oregon for winning it retroactively in 2013.

Keep in mind the championship game and the other 4 major bowl games are put on by the BCS and not the NCAA. They are two separate organizations. The BCS members are also members of the NCAA but they are separate. NDSU is an NCAA member but they are not a BCS member for example.

This has to be one of the first game threads I've read where someone didn't slam the officials. It certainly helps that there weren't many crazy plays to officiate. I'm good friends with the umpire (the guy with the great pick on the Oregon pass in the 4th quarter) and he's an excellent official. I hope he gets the call to the NFL soon.
