Laura was on Hammer's show yesterday and she was talking about her experience at Oregon so far. She is now training with the sprinters and thinks that she is faster than she has ever been. Her first race is in two weeks and I can't wait to see how she does.

She is focusing on the 400/800. Her times are going to drop drastically this first year IMHO.

Any chance she transfers to NDSU? ;) Just kidding. Good luck to her at Oregon

This might need to be moved now, but I think it's will be exciting to follow her career. My wife works with Laura's mom, so we've been getting periodic updates on how Laura's freshman year is going. We usually get the "it's going well, she's finding out how tough it's going to be", type stuff. Since T&F is starting I decided to check out how she's doing. Not a bad start to her indoor career.

In her Duck debut, at the UW Indoor Preview she ran the 3rd fastest 600 time in school history (1:29.80) and anchored an all freshman 4 x400 team to the 5th fastest time in school history (3:41.02).

Not a bad first meet.

Thanks for the updates on Roesler. That 600 time is absolutely smoking! (as is indicative of third fastest in school history at a school that calls itself "Track Capital USA).

I'm glad she is training with the sprinters. That is going to fit her much better than running 60 to 70 or 80 miles a week with the distance and cross country kids.

There is no surprise that she is the fastest she has been. Fargo South did an outstanding job with her, but she is seeing things in her training out there like nothing she has seen before.

Yeah, that'd be NDSU's fastest every by over a second (granted it was done on a 300 meter track and I don't think NDSU tracksters run the 600 very often) but still... holy cow!

Laura may be listed on the cross country roster, but from what I understand that was so she could attend a specific camp this past fall. The coaches thought it would help so they put her on the roster, but don't expect to ever see her run a CC race.

Laura is running in the UW Invitational in Seattle, Washington. Yesterday she helped her team qualify for nationals in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 11:02, which is 1200, 400, 800, 1600. I am not sure what her split was, but the time broke the stadium record and is the 3rd best time in school history. She was slated to run the open 400, but saw that she is now running the open 200 and the 4 x 400 relay.

It will be great to see what she runs outside. Amy predictions Castor?? What's the AQ for the outdoor 800? I just did a quick search and couldn't find it. Looks like the indoor is 2:05.

The Ducks have better multimedia for their womens track than our football team.

Laura ran a 2:04.93 on 2/25 (AQ for indoors). She has the second best time on the team with a sophmore teamate at 2:04.78. Castor, your right, her times just keep dropping.

Does anyone know where I can find a video of the race in last springs H.S. state track meet with Laura Roesler and Morgan Milbrath of Minot? I have looked all over the place and can't find anything. Rather odd, since anyone who was there said it was one of the most thrilling races in meet history. Thanks in advance.

2nd team All-American with an 11th place finish in the 800. She was the only freshman to make it to finals. Also part of the 8th place 1600 relay team. Oh, and the Ducks won another national championship. Nice start Laura!!

Just an update on Laura's outdoor season.

Mt. SAC
In the 800 Laura finished 6th with a time of 2:05.05 (9th all-time at Oregon), and in the 4x400 her team finished first at 3:32.63 (3rd all-time at Oregon).

I think her first outdoor 800 was 2:06 so now we get to watch her outdoor times drop.

I'm not wishing any ill will on Laura Roesler, but I will go out on a limb and predict and hope that she'll never eclipse Laura Hermanson's NDSU record of 2:01.28.
I'm happy for her success and opportunity to compete for such a prestigious track school, but I'm a Bison first.

Lastly, if I end being right, it's not a "na, na, nana, na....you should have come to NDSU" kind of thinking. It's just that Laura's (Hermanson) record and NCAA Finals performance is something that NDSU fans and alum are incredibly proud of.

edit: 2:01.28 would represent the 3rd fastest 800 meter time in Oregon Women's Track history. The top two all-time for the Ducks are sub-2:00!!!!

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Roesler will eventually break 2:00.00. She has that rare gift of top end speed combined with endurance. You just don't see many All American 800 runners that can compete with the best in the open 200.

I wish both Laura's all the luck in the world on their goal of making an the Olympic team. Wouldn't it be great to see them both make it in 2012 or '16??

Laura Roelsler will break 2:00 and hope she is #1. I'm a Bison too but also a North Dakotan. Too back Fargo South being watered down for but way to go big Fargo. Minot (mindrot) was the first to stay with one high school to keep athletics firmed up and now West Fargo will chicken out and do it as well. Instead of having another high school and allowing more participation they, as well as Minot, chicken out and put up another middle school and have a two year high school soley to compete in athletics.

If Laura does not break 2:00 it would be an utter shame. Since she ran 53.5 in the 400 she should really be able to run 1:56 someday. Back to back 58's for her should be a snap.

Aim high, Miss Roesler!

The 21 year old collegiate record is 1:59.11 (Suzy Favor: University of Wisconsin 1990).

Laura can certainly break this by the time she graduates. Suzy's best high school time was 2:09.88 and her 400 is no where near Laura's.

The sky's the limit for Laura.

Laura had the 2nd fastest time in the west regional 2:03.12. The fastest time was by Arkansas' Stephanie Brown who ran the fastest time in the country this year 2:02.59.
