Why add a third kicker? We already have a kid that redshirted this year in Adam Keller. He looked very accurate when I saw him kick in practices, more accurate than Jastram for sure.

Well if he's good then I'm all in, but Jastram needs to go and sounds like this kid might actually be able to kick the ball deeper than the 10 yard line on kickoffs which would also help our coverage team.

5'11" isn't too short, but combined with a weight of 185, playing OLB is a lot to ask of a normal sized body. Joe is/was 250 lbs. Hard to believe this kid could get to that weight based on where he is now. Other schools have interest in him, so he is clearly an athlete. Just questioning his position. If he is 6'1", then there is a lot more room to put on good weight.

If I did this right, here is a short article about Aarin Smith from last summer. ESPN is the only site that lists us as interested,
so I question it. This article lists him as bigger than any other source does and it's a homer article so I'm skeptical. The Stanford
Camp report cited him as a hard hitter and he is listed on Rivals as a 3 star, but they also point out that he may have to switch to
safety in college (does a position switch put the 3 star rating in question?) A 4.5 LB is pretty exceptional, a 4.5 safety is not.

Jones committed to North Dakota State over offers from Air Force and Colorado. The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder accounted for 1,277 all-purpose yards and 10 touchdowns last season. He reported a bench press of 515 pounds and a squat max of 310 pounds. He also has a best shuttle time of 4.2 seconds and typically runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds.

Nice. Probably needs to work on his 40 time. DJ didn't have a great 40 out of high school either. But the shuttle time is a better indicator. Plus he's strong and is a good running back.

MWC is not a BCS conference.

What "if" BYU Utah and TCU stayed, along with the 2012 additions, would it then be a BCS conference?

It could verywell have 6-7 Ranked football teams in one season if that had happened. Just trying to understand how you would ever become a BCS conference if that doesnt cut it.

(MWC would have 13/14 (pending USU) teams in this theoretical setup)

Position switch shouldn't effect a players rating, most of the time the position is taken into account with his rating. An example, James Wilder Jr., one of the biggest recruits in the country, plays RB and LB for his H.S., he would be the #1 OLB in the country and have a 5 star rating if he wanted to play LB in college, but, he wants to play RB so he is in the Top 30 nationally and a 4 star.

4.5 is not by any means bad for a kid coming out of high school playing safety, if it is a legit 4.5. He will only get faster once he gets on a college campus and into a college strength program. For reference, Craig Dahl was a 4.53 at his pro day up here, and we both know how good he was here and how is career in the NFL has gone. Nick Schommer was a 4.58 at his Pro Day at NDSU. You can play fast without being a burner...

A lot earlier, it was noted on rivals that Smith had an offer from NDSU. It was later confirmed that it was a mistake and the offer was from UND (and the switch was made on rivals). I don't know if NDSU has any interest, but I know that UND has offered and offered a long time ago.....

We just beat out TWO BCS teams?! How? (Is the new MWC considered BCS?)

The reason why is because NDSU is a RB's dream school. Unless RB recruites get offers from big time FBS schools, NDSU is a top option. We churn out quality RB's like Penn St. does linebackers. Obviously not quite at the same talent level but you look at Lamar Gordon, Roehl and Paschall, all of these guys have at least gotten a shot in the NFL and I have no doubt McNorton will as well. It's the opportunity to be the focus of the offense and to win championships that is a draw to NDSU for RB's and I guarantee you our run in the playoffs sparked a lot of recruits interest. You look at our RB staff right now and I'm suprised any RB would want to come here as playing time is going to be very limited, but we'll be happy to take all the help we can get!

I remember Boyd being talked about on here last summer. His coach at NDSCS said that he and Gatlin were both excellent players. He's big and fast if I remember right. I think he had poor grades and the coach suggested to him that NDSU would keep him hitting the books so we'd be a good fit. I was wondering why we didn't see him this year, but it's good to hear that he's maybe coming for next year...hopefully for spring ball. If he's as good as Gatlin...that's good enough for me.

Are these verbals partial scholarships, full rides, walk on offers? I think that is probably the biggest deal, if we have 14 scholarships remaining (Taken from your data, i personally have no idea) and we give all half scholarships thats 28 spots right?

If we give 10 full scholarships 8 half scholarships and have 5 walk ons thats 23 kids[This is a made up scenario so i can better understand wtf your talking about].

9-14 what remaining? Players to be signed? Or scholarships left to give? Are you counting the 9-14 as partial scholarships or full scholarships?

Also, you are figuring in old players leaving/graduating.

Do you know if those players are walkons or have partial or full scholarships?

Im figuring last years recruiting class, players that never committed, players who left, new commits for 2011, and people we signed after last years class... the unknowns are...

1) how many got full scholarships
2) how many of the people who left were already figured into the mix. I figured if it was announced after signing day of Feb 2010 we will get to use their scholie this year. Those players who were after Feb were Reid, Johnson, Vetter, Kolstad, Laninghan, and Horner.

Players like Kevin Jackson, woods, rogers, papke, flomo, beson, and poppell are unknown.

No way of knowing if they are full or partial.

Also no way of knowing how many current players on a partial or no scholarship will get an upgrade in their scholarship amount for next season.

K so were guessing at best? Do you know any of the data from last year?

How many partials, walk ons, full rides? Just so we can get an idea of how many full rides we give out and how many walkons we keep on the roster. I have no idea where to even look.

You would have to get the information from the NDSU athletic department/football, and there is no way in hell they are going to release that information. Alternatively, you could poll all of the players on the roster to see what, if any, kind of "ride" they are on. Even then, tho, you would not know for sure, because most kids who are not receiving full rides will not admit that.

I'm with you.
After reading about all of the superlatives this kid brings to the table, I am really looking forward to seeing him play. In addition, if he is as much of a gamer as many on here have said, standing on the sidelines all of this year will only make him hungrier to make the best of his upcoming opportunitities.

Darius Scott would be a sick verbal

He took an official visit here when we hosted our playoff game. Clearly he has about 8 offers on the table. Here is what he had to say about our visit. Alot of good reading on the kid. Hard to tell what he likes. He was just at Illinois State....and said about the same stuff. Like their players and staff.

"I went up to North Dakota State over the weekend for an official visit," Scott said. "It was a good weekend to get out there. They have a playoff game and won and I really enjoyed my visit."

Scott talked about his impressions from North Dakota State.

"I headed up there on Friday and it was a good visit. I had a chance to see the campus and the school and I was able to learn a lot about the school and the football program. I really liked the players at North Dakota State and they seem like a good group of guys. North Dakota State has a great dome stadium and that place was just really loud and packed. They have a really good team and it was a great game day atmosphere. The town and the area surrounding the campus is really nice and it was just a very good weekend official visit."

Good to hear the kids a stud. 4.4 speed. He would be a rock star here. If he liked the atmosphere with our lowest attended game of the year with no students , no band and minimal tailgating he would really be impressed when were at the peak with warmer weather.
