Have to love these questions........also like how Mays still refers to Bison football as "our program"......

What was it like playing your football at North Dakota State?
"It was fun, real fun. North Dakota State is a football school. We had our diehard fans. They come out there every Saturday and they yell and scream and they get you pumped up. You definitely want to do it for the fans and your teammates. I had a lot of fun. If I could go back in time, I'd do the same thing over and over again."

In your senior season, your North Dakota State team beat Eric Deckerhttp://www.denverbroncos.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.denverbroncos.com/team/roster/eric-decker/48c2a608-4961-41d8-81f5-9c43a132f25f/)'s Minnesota squad. Have you ever mentioned that to him?
"I said something to Deck about it. I don't think he wanted to remember that game. He kind of smiled and brushed it off, but he knew that we came in there to win and we did. It was exciting. That was a big win for our program."

If you weren't in the NFL, what would you be doing?

"I think I'd be coaching. I'd probably be coaching college football."

Joe Mays NDSU Head Football Coach 2021?

Let's give him 5 more years in the NFL, then NDSU LB coach for 2 years, Def Coordinator for 3 then HC. I have his life planned out for him. I should have been a guidance counselor.

Thanks for posting this. Love these comments from one of the all time great Bison. It would be great for Joe to come home after his playing days are over.

Joe would be great to have on our coaching staff right now. His style of leadership (lead by example), discipline (didn't see dumb penalties on him), passion (if you have met him you know he cares), and intensity (120% 100% of the time) hasn't been seen since he left. He is EXACTLY what we've lost!

Side note: We need to get Tyler Roehl on the staff too. He's coaching at Concordia right now, and I hope it aint long before he's a bison again. I see him as a head coach someday. Tyler and Joe as coaches...I hope its not a daydream.

I watched the entire game on sunday - Joe played very well in the first half, made a bunch of hard hits and got some air time because of them. He was doing a great job against the run. He didnt play much in the second half on defense because KC was throwing the ball the entire half.

Was extremely excited when McDaniels decided to move Arrington to get Mays. He did an excellent job last week against the Chiefs. Definitely has a good future with the Broncos. Glad he is on my NFL team now. :)

How crazy was that 2007 defense? 4 of the 11 starters are in the NFL. Not got a tryout, not just invited to camp, they are currently on rosters right now. And two of them start.

The most remarkable thing though...they were all recruited when we were still D2.

And the 2007 defense wasn't even that great. The 2006 defense was substantially better. I guess that goes to show that it takes 11 men to make the unit!

That's not true. The Chargers did score on the very next play and Mays was on the field. The close up of the TD clearly showed Mays had his legs but he fell forward. You're always making the facts as you see them rather than how they really are.

You're right, but I would argue that two guys that graduated from the 2006 team made up 95+% of the difference. Two big differences between 2006 and 2007 were Frick at tackle and Dahl at SS.

It was a nice little tidbit about Joe. Can't remember if it was Jaws or Gruden but one of them talked about the revitalization of the Broncos D and it started with the Broncos trading for Joe Mays. Then they talked about how he blew up the play and stopped the chargers from scoring on that play.

They were talking about how injuries had really struck the D, Ayers is out and Doom on IR has really left the LB's lean, Woodyard has been hurt as well. They switched back to the 4-3 and it really didn't work because Moss sucked horribly so they went back to the 3-4 moved haggan back to his OLB that they picked him up for and used mays with DJ in the middle. They also have a pretty sweet 3rd down nickle package thats a 3-4 look with Dawkins next to DJ at LB position, however the secondary is so dinged, that when they bring jones in they might as well just give the other team a TD. Joe is going to be a long term answer for this team. I honestly believe that. In Philly he was just a stopgap, but when they let Adoyleye go after the preaseason I saw that as a chance for joe to shine at some time in the season. Williams is on his way down in the league as he sees his value as much more than the team feels it is. Joe and Woodyard compliment each other nicely and both are great ST players.
