If the Packers lose today, would you consider their season that much more successful than the Vikes? Yes, there is the overall record and the two head-to-head wins...However, the Vikings are going to dump a $20 million salary and get a top-10 pick...The Pack will be sitting at the same place as the Vikings next week, at home, with a pick in the late teens...Advantage, Vikings, IMO.

Interesting take on this. The Vikings will get a higher draft pick but they better make it good because the Vikings have 22 unsigned players for next year and 20 players over the age of 30. Link below

http://1500espn.com/sportswire/Pelissero_For_aging_Vikings_visit_to_Detroit_may_b e_their_last_stand123110

Meanwhile, the Packers will get 15 players off of IR and are a young team. I think the Packers are in better shape.

You again sound just like whioux fans that like to select which years a team was good or not. My guess is you'd trade your "greatness" for that one title you mention.

PS- since you're bringing up losing records, what was the Vikings record in this the "all-in" year?

Karen didnt have a playoff win either until Vick underthrew a sure Victory!!!

Fact alert: Here's what Aaron Rodgers has done in the first two postseason starts of his career: 613 yards, seven touchdown passes, one interception and a completion percentage of 66.7. That translates into a 122.4 passer rating. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Rodgers is the first quarterback in NFL history to throw at least seven touchdown passes over his first two playoff starts or have a 120-plus passer rating in each game.

Now I fully expect Lakes to respond with an emotional, caps locked nonsense reply.

I'll give you Brady and Mannings but you went full batshit with rest (especially Cassel, Bradford and Sanchez.)

Rodgers career stats as of week 17: 98.4 rating, 12,723 yards and 87 tds/32 ints. If you really think with the Vikings current QB roster that you have any ground to smack a team in the second round of the playoffs with a pro bowl QB you're more delusional than I thought.

I sincerely hope you guys figure out the QB situation this draft/off season. I really enjoy the rivalry between the Pack and the Vikings and I'm afraid the Joe Webb/TJack era (more like error) will take the suspense/tension away from our two meetings a year.

As for the Vikes maybe you guys shouldn't be so hard on TJack and give the guy another chance. He has Lakes' full endorsement and if there's one thing that B'ville has proven us it's that Lakes can pick a QB.

I'm a Vikings fan but I'll absolutely five Aaron Rodgers the credit he's due - he's a really freakin' good quarterback. I had him on my fantasy roster and he blew it up just about every week. He's a step below Vick in his ability to make things happen with his feet but he always seems to scramble at the right times, and that's with a pretty weak o-line.

No way half of Lakes' list (particularly Cassel and Sanchez) are actually better than him.

LMAO at having Cassel, Sanchez, and even Flacco and Bradford (at this point) in the top 10. That's football ignorance at it's best. Ryan at #3? LMAO Bradford better than Rivers? LMAO Roders at #11 behind Flacco, Bradford, Cassel, Rodgers? You cannot be serious.

As a Vikings fan, its hard to say good things about the Packers. However, Rogers definately shows class. Your message is really telling me that we need to get above the pettiness and respect folks like Rogers for the positive things he does. (Including his stats in the last couple of games!)

yes I was being sarcastic. and for those who don't want to read the links here's an excerpt from the second link that kinda says it all.

"My friend, the father of that young girl who passed, was there that night - enjoying the opportunity to reconnect with many of his MACC Fund family members and revel in the charity's big night. He was one of several attendees brought up on stage where he caught a football thrown by the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. The evening was already a smashing success for him and his grateful family.

And then he asked Aaron to sign the football he'd caught. He wondered if he'd make it out to his (late) daughter. It isn't shocking that Rodgers obliged. What caught me off guard was the dedication he made. It wasn't until after Aaron left that I first saw the autograph... and the simple yet sweet message that brought tears to this father's eyes: "To Cheri the angel. Save me a spot. - Aaron Rodgers"

"I'm taking this team on the express train to awesomeland. And if you want to b*tch and moan about how I'm not the last guy, then your stupid ass can sit outside on the tundra and weep frozen tears for him. Meanwhile, if you board now, this thing's gonna be an orgy for the next few seasons. Express means I'm not stopping for ANYthing. Bandwagon hopping? Not on my f*cking train. This sh*t's going 100 mph straight for the Super Bowl, year after year after year. I'm not gonna just do it once like Old Man Favre. No "boy he just loves playin'" for this guy. Every Red Blooded American should jump in line to support the Green Bay Packers! The Packers defeated the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon thus earning them the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl. By doing so, they saved the Hard-Working, Red Blooded, Taxpaying Americans literally several million dollars of tax money. How you say? Simple... we were told that if the Chicago Bears had won that President Obama (and probably his family) would be attending the Super Bowl to cheer on his hometown team. Since the Bears lost...the President won't be attending. The money saved from not using Air Force 1, the limosines, all the additional security, and let's not forget Michelle Obama's entourage, is literally several million dollars! Therefore every American should cheer on the Green Bay Packers at the Super Bowl to show them our gratitude. Oh...and let's not forget to thank Chicago Bear's Quarterback Jay Cutler for his role in the Packer's success! With that said...let's circulate this email to everyone we know so they can understand why they should cheer for America's team...the Green Bay Packers!

Tom Brady , after living a full life, died. When he got to heaven, God was showing him around. They came to a modest little house with a faded Patriots flag in the window. "This house is yours for eternity, Tom," said God. "This is very special; not everyone gets a house up here." Tom felt special, indeed, and walked up to his house, on his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around the corner. It was a 3-story mansion with a GREEN & GOLD sidewalk, a 50-foot tall flagpole with an enormous PACKERS flag, and in every window, a CHEESEHEAD. Tom looked at God and said "God, I'm not trying to be ungrateful, but I have a question. I was an all-pro QB, I hold many NFL records, and I even won a few Super Bowls." God said "So what's your point, Tom?" "Well, why does Aaron Rodgers get a better house than I do?" God chuckled, and said: "Tom, that's not Aaron’s house......it's Mine."

GO PACKERS!!!

Green Bay — If you got on the waiting list for Green Bay Packers season tickets today, you could expect a just-won-the-lottery call from 1265 Lombardi Ave. in, oh, about 955 years.

Unless you're into cryogenics - maybe Ted Williams was a Packers fan? - it doesn't make much sense to sign up.

But people do. Though the season-ticket waiting list is 86,000 deep and the Packers estimate only 90 tickets turn over each year, the list continues to grow. It's more a kick-the-bucket list than a bucket list, but here's the thing:

People sign up for season tickets because their spot on the list can be passed down to heirs. There's nothing wrong with long-range planning.

Each year, the Packers send out postcards to those on the waiting list, updated to reflect their new position on it. Imagine the excitement when that postcard arrives: "Wow, I moved up 82 spots to No. 72,116!"

What other team, besides the Rolling Stones, is guaranteed to sell out every home game for the next 10 centuries? The NFL will have expanded to Mars by then and players will be genetically engineered, but fans will still be sitting on aluminum bench seats at Lambeau Field, chanting, "Go, Pack, go!"

Gotta love cheeseheads.

With apologies to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have an incredibly rabid and supportive fan base, there is nothing quite like Packers fans.

They don't bleed green and gold, but they sure do wear it. Go into any bar, restaurant or shopping mall and if you don't see someone in Packers colors within 30 seconds, you've made a wrong turn somewhere and are probably in Nepal.

Come to think of it, there are undoubtedly Packers fans in Nepal. They're everywhere. Season ticket holders reside in all 50 states and several foreign countries, including Australia and Japan. Now that's a commute.

The most overused cliché in sports these days is "(Fill-in-the-blank) Nation." As in Cubs Nation, Red Sox Nation, Boise State Nation, et al. Just because a team has expatriate (or even Patriot) fans sprinkled across the country doesn't mean that team has a "nation."

But Packers Nation is, well, national. Every major city in America has at least one Packers bar, where fans can wear their Aaron Rodgers jerseys, drink Wisconsin-brewed beverages and act all Sheboygan-y.

What makes the Green Bay Packers unique is that they are a nonprofit entity and the only publicly owned team among major professional sports. Thanks to statewide support and NFL revenue sharing, the franchise thrives in a city of about 100,000, major sports' smallest TV market.

It helps that nothing much happens in Green Bay, other than what occurs at 1265 Lombardi Ave. Lambeau Field, with its soaring green facade, stands out in a neighborhood of well-kept ranch homes and is the region's corporate, cultural and social epicenter.

On game days, the parking lot is filled hours before kickoff with all-pro tailgaters, and smoke from bratwurst sizzling on grills hangs thick in the air. First-time visitors have been known to get on their hands and knees and kiss Vince Lombardi's asphalt.

Coach Mike McCarthy - a Pittsburgh guy, by the way - will never forget the first time he saw Lambeau, when he interviewed for the quarterbacks coaching job in 1999. He got the job, spent one season in Green Bay, left for other coaching positions and returned as head coach in 2006.

"Just the drive down Lombardi Ave., it reminded me of South Hills, by South Hills Mall, back in Pittsburgh," he said. "You see Kmart, Red Lobster . . . and all of a sudden there's Lambeau Field. My goodness, that's different.

"And having the opportunity to work here, it's just so unique. You have a stadium in your backyard, in a sense, and the relationship with the town and the team is very unique."

With all due respect to the Rooney family in Pittsburgh, the Packers have 112,150 "owners," the overwhelming majority of whom hold exactly one share of stock (including retired team president Bob Harlan, who paid $25 for his share).

The stock certificates are basically worthless pieces of paper; they cannot be resold, except back to the team at a fraction of the cost. But the powerful emotional attachment they provide is priceless. When general manager Ted Thompson signs a free agent, the stockholders can brag that they helped bring the player to Green Bay. And they're right.

The Steelers have a proud tradition, but the Packers date to 1919 and the dawn of pro football. So, in Wisconsin, you're born into Packerdom; your great-great-grandfather cheered for Curly Lambeau and Johnny Blood, your great-grandfather for Don Hutson and Tony Canadeo, your grandfather for Bart Starr and Paul Hornung, and your father for Don Majkowski and Sterling Sharpe.

You cheered for Brett Favre, until he put on that ugly purple uniform of the hated Minnesota Vikings.

Yes, people take their Packers seriously around here. Raymond Raab of Menomonee Falls was watching the playoff game against Atlanta two weeks ago and was feeling ill. His concerned wife, Louise, wanted to call 911.

"He said, 'No, no, no, I want to watch the Packer game,' " Louise said. "Finally, when they were ahead by so much, he said, 'OK, you can call 911 now.' "

Ray Raab died nine days later.

"I'm not really a Packer fan, but I guess I'll be watching the Super Bowl," Louise said. "I think Ray is getting a kick out of this."

Why not? He's got the best seat in the house. And he only had to wait 81 years for it

You must have spent your day looking in the mirror again Lakes.

The Packers are not high on my list, but I certainly respect the fervor their fans bring to the table. It would be wonderful if our Viking fan base could come close to matching half of this attitude. Wondering if the Vikings will be joining the Lakers is a bit difficult when the Packers have community and fan base support for centuries.

The Packers' first possession ended with consecutive sacks when Buchanan bowled over left guard Fuzzy Thurston and Mays whipped right tackle Gregg, but the Packers struck shortly thereafter on Starr's 37-yard touchdown pass to McGee. On third and 3, Bettis decided to blitz. Starr, McGee, and the rest of the seasoned offense were anything but rattled. "The Chiefs may not have realized that we loved when teams blitzed," Starr said. "We had a very good adjusting process for dogging linebackers and safeties. Guys like McGee could read a blitz and let us know it was coming, which gave us the time to exploit it. Our line allowed me to remain in the pocket, rather than bootlegging or scrambling."

Playing well off McGee and using an outside technique, Mitchell was in poor position when McGee ran a down-and-in route into the vacated wide-open middle of the field. Under pressure from Buchanan, Starr's pass was well behind McGee, but McGee reached back with his right arm, snagged the ball, and pulled it to his chest just as Mitchell dived in vain at where the ball had been. McGee eased into the end zone 20 yards away on a fast jog, and the Packers led, 7-0.

His catch, which would live on in Super Bowl annals as one of the most famous ever, took place at about 1:30 p.m. Six hours earlier, Starr had stepped off the elevator on his way to breakfast at the team's Sheraton West hotel when he encountered McGee straggling in. "He was returning from his big night out with a blonde from Chicago," Starr said. "He didn't worry about his late night out affecting his performance because, with his career winding down, he didn't expect to play at all."

Ninety miles up the coastline in Santa Barbara, where Lombardi had billeted the Packers for about a week, McGee was desperate for some fun but didn't have much success finding it in the semi-retirement community. Upon arrival in L.A., McGee met a few airline stewardesses and made plans to meet up with them in Beverly Hills after curfew Saturday night. Dave "Hawg" Hanner, the team's defensive line coach, had made the mistake of telling McGee on Friday night that he didn't intend to re-check his room after curfew.

"I was in bed under the sheets with my clothes on when they came around for bed check," McGee said. "As soon as they finished checking, I checked out. It was like getting out of jail. I wasn't a heavy drinker; I was just out enjoying myself. The next day, I didn't even bother to stretch out too much because I figured I'd just be sitting around watching anyway. I could barely stand up for the kickoff.

"The game had just started, and I was sitting on the bench with Hornung. We were sitting there planning his bachelor party when I heard Lombardi yell, 'McGee! McGee!' Boyd Dowler had gotten hurt. I had to scramble to my feet. I grabbed a helmet - I'm pretty sure it was someone else's - and I went in. It was one of the best days of my career, one of those days when I couldn't do anything wrong."

All seven of McGee's receptions came with Mitchell trying to cover him. In the third quarter, the Chiefs double-teamed McGee with Bell on a third-and-11, but Starr still managed to find him for 16 yards on a curl pattern. Four plays later, on another "Wanda," Mitchell made the terrible decision of trying to undercut another post pattern to McGee. This time, Starr's pass hit him right in the hands as he crossed the goal line near the wooden goalposts. It should have been a routine grab, but showing a flair for the dramatic, McGee juggled it for a stride or two before securing it for a 13-yard touchdown, making it 28-10.

In the fourth quarter, the Chiefs blitzed one more time. Mitchell gave McGee another huge cushion, and a third big completion to the post gained 37 yards. That set up the Packers' final touchdown, a 1-yard burst by Pitts.

"When you look at the film, you wonder how he caught the ball," said Bettis, also a one-time linebacker for the Packers and McGee's teammate from 1955 to 1961. "Max was a decent route runner and he had decent speed. He knew how to work people. But those catches were out of his ass. That's the way it was. Those things happen. That's part of the game

I havent seen rationalization like that since the last time I was over at SS.com.:D

In the "did you know" category: The "G" on the packers helmet does not stand for "Green Bay", it stands for "Greatness". I know, pathetic, but that is a fact. Also, and not that I am a Packers fan, but picked them 3 weeks b/4 playoffs to win the SuperBowl. Ya, I know they had yet to even secure a playoff berth at that point, but that was nonetheless my thoughts after watching them play at that time and knowing that they would be getting at least one decent runningback back in the mix--just sayin!!

I know you prefaced this by saying it wasn't yours, but I like how many packer fans are revisionist history majors regarding rodgers. If I remember right, he was booed at a scrimmage and a few other not so nice things were done like:

In 2008, quarterback Aaron Rodgers was booed in his first practices and in the first Family Night scrimmage as the team's starter.

Another individual who clearly lacks life perspective keyed Rodgers' car. Someone else wrote nasty comments on his driveway -- in chalk -- and somebody harassed him as he filled his car with gas, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

So I am sure for the next infinite amount of years, it will be "I was behind rodgers all the way. I knew he was the guy all along."

It also seems the packer fans I know are still so hung up on favre it is not even funny. The picture montage seems to prove it. GB just won the super bowl and its fans are still more excited to crucify favre than celebrate the title.

Kevin

I was behind Rodgers all the way. He was a steal in the draft.

The people booing Rodgers were Favre fans, not Packer fans. Most of them sobered up when he put on the purple and gay. But some... well, they still think he's the messiah.

THIS!!!!!! I stand behind what the Packers did with the whole Favre saga. He retired and then told Packers management he wanted to play for the Vikings. No way in hell would the Packers take him back at that point. As far as Rodgers goes, it is amazing how much he had to overcome to get to this point.

Last point the Vikings passed on Rodgers twice in the 2005 draft and both players are not even playing in the NFL anymore.
