If I was still voting in the AGS poll, no way in heck I'd have NDSU any higher than 20 right now. Whoever gave them #1 votes needs to have their head examined. :banghead:

I voted NDSU 17th and I'm very surprised AGS has NDSU higher than I do.

SIU should drop out of the top 10, just for playing an NAIA team for their first game! :p

Since SportsNetwork was mentioned here with its poll I thought I would post this wrap up of last weeks games in FCS posted on that website. It's a pretty good read.

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfoot2/misc/haley/index2.htm

A few nuggets:

North Dakota State? Well, the Bison's 6-3 win at Kansas was the polar opposite of Jacksonville State's on the scoreboard, but it left an FBS coach as equally stunned, first-year Jayhawks skipper Turner Gill. Maybe his squad should have taken even a closer look at North Dakota State than they did beforehand because since the Bison moved to the FCS in 2006 they are an impressive 4-3 against Football Bowl Subdivision teams, beating Minnesota, Ball State, Central Michigan, and, now, Kansas (Turner, this certainly isn't the University of Buffalo anymore).

The reality, though, is that FCS teams aren't supposed to beat FBS teams. It's tougher to do in football than in most other collegiate sports. So the 2-38 record that FCS teams posted against the big boys this weekend can be filed away with the guaranteed paychecks that come with playing these games.

... Led by North Dakota State's win at Kansas, Missouri Valley Football Conference teams won six of seven games.

Go Bison!!

UND loves twisting this particular poll to convince themselves they're good.

My prediction: In one week NDSU will pass SDSU in the polls and set the football world back where it belongs. NDSU will beat UNI and SDSU will lose to Delaware.

Saragin polls are usually spot on by week 3. Its just early in the season. We'll know more as the season progresses.

Although I don't quite agree with the Saragin ratings, the post you quoted was about a different poll.

I don't have much respect for Sagarin ratings until at least week 6, usually week 8. Not enough data early in the season, as shown by the only two FCS teams with FBS wins being the top 2 teams.

You're right in that the Sagarin ratings get more accurate as the season progresses. Sagarin himself says that the "predictor" column is the most accurate. His computer model has us at #66 in the predictor column. Still the hightest rated AA team in the nation. Too high in my opinion. We shall see as the seaon progresses.

Computer rankings don't mean anything until there's enough data to link all teams. At the beginning of the year there has to be a bunch of assumptions to say what wins are better than others. If there wasn't, Idaho's win over UND would be just as important as NDSU over KU. This makes the first weeks more objective than subjective rankings which kind of defeats the purpose of computer based rankings in the first place.
