Nov. 8, 2010 will be the 50th anniversary of the vote to change North Dakota State University's name from North Dakota Agricultural College.

To honor this occasion, I think I'll have to dig up some Grand Forks Herald editorials from that year. In fact, I think that Nov. 8th should be a holiday in North Dakota celebrated like Guy Fawkes Day in the UK (which is celebrated on Nov. 5th) with a bonfire and the burning in effigy of a dickweed in a UND sweatshirt and http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dickie to commerate the triumph of common sense over parochialism and dumb-assery.

This should be a celebration and feast of epic proportions. Personally, I would like to see this day observed on the Saturday before. I believe there will be a sizeable gathering in the west lot on that day, many wearing fake mustaches.
