I'll be heading to Des Moines, IA to watch the US Championships and after looking at the entry list, North Dakota should be well represented. Here is what I found:

Juniors-
Kira Larson-HJ
Laura Roesler- 800
Ellie Grooters- 400 IM

US Championships
Laura Janeszewsi- 800
Whitney Calrson- LJ
Heather Zander- Hept (provisional)
Toni Tollefson- HJ (provisional)

I am sure that Milbrath and Barnes have run fast enough, but I could not find them on the list of entrants.

Would have Roesler's state championship 400 time qualified her? I thought it was the 4th fastest in the country. Is it just too much to run those two at this level??

Yes, her time qualifies her for that event but you are correct. The first round of the 400 is only 1 1/2 hours before the 800 final. She could do it if the competition wasn't so good.

ANKENY IOWA gets the shout out!

This wonderful country we live in has many hidden treasures like Ankeny. I have to admit that they are VERY well hidden, sometimes unrecognizable but they are still treasures.

Roesler takes 2nd place in the 800.

This was a great race. Laura started way back in the pack and nearly caught Aggy Wilson, who ran a 2:00 split last week.

Laura J ran a low 2:02 and will be in the finals on Sunday and Ellie Grooters ran a high 59 in the hurdles to also make it to the finals. Kira Larson no-heighted since they started at 5' 5.25" and Emily Stalpes had a pretty bad go of it in the junior hept. Zander is doing fine, but she is up against some freaks of nature. It is cool that she is wearing her Bison uniform. Toni jumps today and Whitney as well, I think.

The US record in the women's javelin was broken by 10 feet. It has been hot but today we are expecting t-storms.

Very impressive race by Laura Januszewski!

Thought it was posted before but Amanda (Thieschafer) Smock took fourth in the triple jump.

Here are a bunch of videos for each event:

http://www.usatf.org/events/2010/USAOutdoorTFChampionships/video.asp

Overall it was a great meet! I suggest watching the women's javelin where Patterson breaks the AR by 10 feet. Also, the women's high jump, the men's 800, the women's 100 hurdles with Lolo Jones, the men's 200 with Wallace Spearmon, the women's pole vault, and the men's and women's 400 hurdles.

Ellie's prelim is worth watching. She was the only athlete to make it to finals who was not currently in college.

Nationals will be there for the next couple of years so it will be great to see some Bison competing for titles.

Slinde commentary:

Bison roll through U.S. Outdoor Championships

"It's a perfect example that North Dakota State University athletics has made a home in Division I.

The 2010 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships found their way into Drake Stadium this past week on the campus of Drake University. And with this being the ultimate stage for this unique sport..."

Does anyone know where there might be some video of that 400m race at the state track meet with Roesler and Milbrath?

Maybe someone in Bisonville knows someone who knows someone who knows someone else who knows a person who thinks they may have seen someone in the stands taking a video of this race.

It is rather unusual, don't you think, for there not to be a video SOMEWHERE of what some have described as one of the most exciting races (if not the most exciting race) in state track meet history?

Isn't there a super-sleuth amongst us B'villers who can track this down?
