Lots of tracksters competing that would look great in a Bison uniform (and one that is going to run in green and yellow but for Oregon.)

Starting off the top of my head, I think NDSU might as well offer all those Bismarck guys who ran the 4x800 relay down in South Dakota this year but Brandon Barnes who ran a 1:51 this year is going to Iowa State (rats!)

Note: WDAY radio is doing a bit on the state meet right now.

I'm watching to see how Langdon scores. Both the boys and the girls sent a lot of athletes and they had good times.

Pay attention to the name Dinius on both the girls and the boys side. Jon is a Senior and I believe he's going to Dickinson. His sister is a Sophomore and won several events last year. She'll be a factor for several more years.

Where do they hold the meet these days? I ran in the meet in '87, '88 and '89 when they held it at Memorial Coliseum up in el Forko. It was always a really fun time.

Bismarck...much better facility....they do an excellent job with the meet all around. A vast improvement from grand forks. It would be hard to get it out of Bismarck unless Fargo vastly improves it's facilities, from a fan perspective. Plus, Bismarck benefits from its central location.

Leavn for Bismarck at 6 with Coach Larson... Good Luck Laura and the Bruins girls. And also to Kira Larson and the North girls team.

Brandon Barnes, Bismarck High, has run 1:51 in the 800, and 4:18 in the 1600. He would be a really nice addition! Lars will be there, and there is a history of Bismarck High tracksters becoming Bison!

Yeah, he would. Unfortunately, sounds like he's going to Iowa State.

I actually liked having the meet in Grand Forks... how does the seating capacity in Bismarck for track compare to Grand Forks?

The Community Bowl in Bismarck can seat around 1,000-1,500 if I recall correctly, I'm not certain of Grand Forks' numbers.

I took notice of his regional times and they're pretty good.
100 meters: 10.90
200 meters: 22.56 (.58 from the Class B record)
400 meters: 52.14.

Can't forget about the Bison football recruit from Wahpeton. I think he set EDC meet record last weekend in the 100. Heard he has a chance to break the state record.

UND has let their track go to the point that the NDHSAA won't even consider it anymore. I think it's the jumping areas that haven't been touched since before the 97 flood.

A good one to watch this weekend is Spencer Uetz from West Fargo. He has already committed to be a Bison, but it'll be great to see if he can put a little pressure on the front runners. Spencer will run much faster when he can train with our very young and talented middle distance crew.

Their track was never anything special, but I am guessing the seating capacity at memorial is a lot greater than 1000-1500 at the community bowl in Bismarck.... and I always remember the stands being pretty full. Having the old REA next door as a place to hang out out of the sun between races was nice as well.

9 kids either in the 10's or flirting with the 10's (in the 100m) is something likely never seen seen before in the ND state track meet prelims.
Must have been ideal weather/conditions.

Any details? (times, etc.)
Was it the girl from Minot?
Is there any place to see live results posted on-line?
Would like to see Roessler shave some time off of her 800 record. I believe the B-M forecast called for quite a lot of wind..........so.....maybe the record book is safe today.

Holy carp!!!!
going down the list of events and.......
In the Class A 400 meter finals, Roesler and Milbrath in another nailbiter with Roessler coming out on top and both athletes shattered the state record
OLD RECORD:
Roessler in 2009 in 55.10
Today, Roessler takes first with a time of 53.25!!!!
Milbrath second at 53.31!!!!

Roessler's teammate Francis Conlin finished 3rd in 58.56.

By way of comparison the Minnesota State girl's record in the 400 meters is 54.36.

In my opinion, these 2 girls have run the best race/time in ND prep history. I wish I could have seen it.

IzzyFlexion

I'm sorry if it seems as though I can't stop gushing about this race (400 meter final), but both Roessler and Milbrath's times in the today's Class A 400 meter finals eclipse the all-time NDSU womens record of 53.43 set by Tamara Brudy in 2001!!!!
Incredible!

Another tidbit:
Roessler and Milbrath now own the number 3 and 4 top times in the nation at 400 meters!
TOP 5:
1. Diamond Dixon: Westside, Texas 52.92.
2. Chizoba Okodogbe: Deer Valley, California 53.23.
3. Laura Roessler: Fargo South 53.25.
4. Megan Milbrath: Minot 53.31.
5. Briana Nelson: J.L. Mann, South Carolina 53.32.

Wind-aided?

I don't believe that any track and field records for the 400 meters (at any level) factor in the wind because the athletes are making one complete oval having to face both a headwind and a tailwind.

Also, keep in mind that the 3rd place finisher was more than 5 seconds behind these two girls. It certainly appears to be a case of two warriors pushing each other hard as hell from start to finish.

IzzyFlexion

Roessler must have run out of gas by the time she got to the 800 meter final. Despite winning the event, her time of 2:17.64 is nearly 12 full seconds off of her nation best time of 2:05.76.
But.......what an athlete and a phoenomenal career at South.

Wow Milbrath sure took it up several notches. Roesler is amazing. Can't imagine what she is gonna do at Oregon.
How about some recognition for the Bismarck Boys.
Brandon Barnes #10 in the NATION in the 800m 1:51.21-- are we recruiting him?
And the Bismarck Boys #7 in the NATION in the 4x800 relay 7:46.08

I just got home from working the meet. The class A girls 400 was incredible! Greatest race in ND track and field history IMHO! Welk beat Smith in both sprints, and after some controversy, Smith was DQ'd for running on the lane line for seven consecutive steps in the 200. Donte Smart of Minot broke the boys 400 meter record, the first ever under 48 seconds. I heard it through the grapevine that he is going to be a Bison!

As I expected, Jon Dinius had a productive meet. He won the 100, 200 and ran on a winning 4x100 relay. Placed 3rd or 4th in the 4x200 relay. With his speed and football ability, I expect him to tear up the DAC.

His sister, a sophomore, won the 100 and placed in three other events. She is somebody to watch the next couple years.

Milbrath from Minot is "only" a freshman. Wow.

And if Donte Smart is coming here, that would be fantastic. I've seen him on the gridiron a number of times, and he would be an excellent addition to the football team, but don't know if he would do the football/track double.

They had tape of the end of the Girls A 400 on the news. That was an incredible race. They absolutely crushed the 400 record... amazing - quite a debut for Morgan Milbrath and a great send off for Laura Roesler.

Guys A was not bad either. Donte Smart's 400 was amazing on it's own - but I heard he had a leg injury that kept in from running for much of the spring. And having both Welk and Smith break the 200 record was astounding.

Some pretty good underclassmen too. I'll be leaving people out but John Welk overcame knee injuries to win some events and Waha Sem from Fargo North was very impressive in the 800 (and he's only a freshman.)

It is true that NDSU has been pretty good at keeping the best track athletes in state, but after glancing at the state records, the elite tend to leave the state much like the major sports. But since the move to DI we have gotten athletes that we might not have gotten in the DII days- like Whitney Carlson, Heather Zander, Halley Odegaard, and Weston Leutz. But most of the DI talent that the Bison have lost have been distance runners like Rob Heen (Wisconsin), Corey Ihmels (Iowa State), Becky Wells (Alabama, Florida), Jessie Kindschi (SDSU and BYU), Brian McCulley (Duke), Penny Splichal (Arkansas), Jolene Vanyo (Navy),Krista Anderson (Iowa), Lindsay Anderson (Iowa and UND) and Andrew Carlson (Minnesota).

Corey Ihmels is now the track coach at Iowa State. Brandon Barnes was interested in Chemical engineering. Thats why he is going to Iowa State.

Eugene, Oregon (AKA "Track City, USA") will be very good for her. They have some of the best track facilities in the country (historic Heyward Field was recently remodeled by an NDSU Landscape Architecture grad from the mid 90's) along with world class coaching and, of course, supreme sponsorship in Nike. Don't be surprised to see this new Duck become molded into an Olympic athlete, considering her raw talent coming in.

I will do my best to keep up with her progress.

I would say that it would no longer be a surprise but expected that Laura becomes an Olympic athlete ever since her 400 performance. With that kind of speed, she has the potential to run 1:56 which is nearly 2 seconds faster than Oregon's school record. Pamela Jelimo, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist who runs 1:54, has a PR of 52.8 in the 400. It is not out of her reach to medal some day soon. All of the best 800 times ever run have been done with even splits, meaning that Laura would have to run back-to-back 58's.

Speaking of Roeslers, I think Kyle Roesler might have some good times in his future if he chooses to run track in college.

Also, wish Jake Miller was signed up for track at NDSU rather than football at UND - anybody who take the runner-up in the 400 and lead through the wind in the 800 (and still finish 3rd) has some guts.
