North Dakota University System chancellor directed to look further into NDSU, UND spending practices

***************

This is not totally unexpected, when an Audit goes bad, they always want to dig deeper and harder to see what else might have been done.

Where will they start, and what will they determine?

That NDSU continues to do more with less than their downstream sister. Oh, sorry. I thought you said "should".

The board gave NDSU permission to spend $1.4 million in private donations on the Bison Sports Arena renovation, primarily for design costs. Board members refused to give retroactive approval to nearly $2.5 million the NDSU Development Foundation already spent on that project without first coming to the board.

Hanson said NDSU did not know the foundation had spent that money without the proper approval, and the university has taken over the reins on the project.

I have no problem with NDSU taking over the projects from the NDSU Development Foundation, just don't let Hanson have any type of control over it, bad enough that he is speaking for NDSU right now in front of the board.

And an audit of the audit article reveals a misspelling in paragraph 3. Which for those of you scoring at home is UNDER the standard fishwrap over/under of 4.5. And even better, even WordPerfect v1.0 would have caught this one. Professional journalism at its finest.

FARGO – Concerns about North Dakota State University were raised in an audit discussed today by a committee of the state Board of Higher Education.

The meeting was closed to the public and the document has not been released.

However, a newss release issued today by the North Dakota University System says the operational audit raised concerns about NDSU

You dig deep enough, you'll find dirt on anybody.

I suppose I should release this before it's made public... but I sometimes like to look at scantly dressed ladies online in the bikini thread.... OH THE HUMANITY.

Well, good, guess we got all that out of the way now. Nothing that seems particularly egregious to me, but a few things that could probably use tightening up. Just like any business, there's always going to be some way to run things a little better.

Of course, putting a zillion controls in place also costs money and makes a real pain for day-to-day transactions.

I guarantee you can find this kind of stuff at any institution with more than 1,500 students.

Yes, but the usual uninformed trolls, haters, and winged monkeys don't necessarily understand that. If only the media and taxpayers got this bent out of shape about all the wasteful spending by the NDUS (ND has ELEVEN state colleges and universities??? ELEVEN????). I guarantee that an objective look would cause some major butthurt.

Either way, this is a black eye for the university and it needs to be cleaned up. Looks like President B is already there to the extent he can be there.

And yes, you can't convince me that this kind of crap NEVER happens at other state institutions.

I agree that these things happen, but they should have/could have all been avoided.

some pretty simple, well-known rules were violated.

1. You fly coach.
2. You don't buy booze with public funds.
3. You ALWAYS COVER YOUR A$$

in my opinion who ever spent $10k on Tony Robbins needs to be fired.

if you're a manager who can't motivate yourself you're in the wrong business.

i can get just as revved up pounding a cup of joe and listening to Eye the Tiger - cost - 12 cents for Foldgers.

1) What anyone is doing spending any money on Tony Robbins is beyond me.

2) The horse park situation shouldn't suprise anyone. That's been a total boondogle from the word go. And an entirely predictable one at that. NDSU shouldn't have come within 10 miles of that thing. The only reason I can think that they did was to curry favor with certain connected elements in Bismarck.

According to the article in the Bismarck Trib. some of the questionable spending occurred before Chapman's tenure. It is unfortunate he has been left to take all the blame.

I'm sure that the Forum will add this tidbit to their report with all due haste.
