I don't know if that (smog) would be a concern. That city is nearly shut down and producing little or nothing.

This is dumb of me, but that lone second place finish last year rankles me a bit more after each championship. If not for that, the Bison would be a perfect 12 for 12 in Summit T&F championships. Just the obsessive compulsive in me coming out. Now we need to build cross country to the point where we're winning 6 per year instead of 4. (I know that's practically impossible with current scholarship limits.)

Isn't the only reason SUU won the men's outdoor title last year was because it was held in Cedar City at altitude??? Huge advantage for all of their distance runners that train all year in those conditions.

If that championship last year was held anywhere else the Bison would have won easily.

With only 7 mens and 7 womens teams...it is hard to win the overall Summit sports titles. IMO, overall, the Bison have the best athletic programs in the Summit.

Competing at nearly 6000 feet is a huge advantage for SUU and Lars and Ryun agree that if they were anywhere else they would have won.

The conference will get tougher with USD coming to the Summit.

Does anyone know how many athletes we are sending to regionals?

I am sure that most of them will compete in a Last Chance Meet somewhere this week, but here are the athletes who have already qualified:

Men-
Kevin Jackson- 200
Weston Leutz- 110 H
Scott Johnson- Hammer

Leutz and Rud provisionally qualified in the decath but are too far down the list make it to nationals. They do not have this event for regionals.

Women-
Ashley Tinglestad- 400
Christine Bruins- 800
Brittany Gigstead- 800
Amy Jo Reuter- SC
Whitney Carlson- 100 H, 400 H, Long Jump (6th), Hept (prov-21st)
Devon Wentz- 400 H
Leslie Brost- PV (8th)
Toni Tollefson- HJ (12th)
Kristen Killoran- LJ, TJ
Heather Zander- Hept- (prov- 23rd)

The bolded performances are qualifying marks for the US Championships in June. Leslie and Toni have made the "B" standard and Whitney has made the "A" standard, so she is going for sure.

I don't dispute the SUU distance runners in particular have an advantage when running at altitude. But, that's just an obstacle to be overcome. SUU was favored to win the Summit Men's Cross Country title last fall -- on their home course -- but lost.

So when Greg Vollmer ran over a minute slower in the SC at last year's championships, was he not able to overcome the obstacle that he apparently was able to overcome in XC? Or would that be called choking?

Just askin'.

If I read correctly, JackJD said he didn't dispute that the SUU kids have an advantage due to altitude training. He stated it "is an obstacle to overcome." No one overcomes every obstacle everytime. Not all of SDSU's runners ran well when they won the conference XC championships last fall. Some overcame that obstacle big time and really stepped up to help out those who didn't. It's called a team effort.

Just sayin'.

Lars and Ryun prove once again they consistently have the top program in the conference (that includes the old NCC days and now the Summit). It'll be interesting when USD joins the Summit -- in the old NCC days, USD seemed to be the only team that could challenge the Bison on occasion.

The hope for the entire conference is other schools improve and try to battle NDSU so that all of the Summit performances rise to a higher level. There can be no question that right now, NDSU is the standard by which measurements can be taken.
