“We’ve been continuing to raise money for projects at NDSU,” he said. “We have a $34 million major renovation on our athletic facility, and we have about $29 million raised right now.”
So, we are still looking for $5 million to get the project started??

Had coffee and doghnuts etc. at the Presidents house this AM before an Alumni Awards meeting at the Alumni Center and talked to Dick about the Bemidji job. I told him it had to be a no brainer. He seems to be a great fit and seems to feel very good about his chances for the job. He actually was a pretty good interim president with a lot of challenges. Good luck to him in Bemidji.

Yeah the only good thing I can say about his interim is it almost over.
Seriously the guy did everything he could to be a detriment to the University. Look, I guess in the private he maybe had some good qualities as a leader, but he sure didn't make anyone in the general public feel that way, and when your trying to recruit students to your college and the President has the public speaking abilities of a monkey its not good. He will probably do fine at the much smaller BSU.
NDSUstudent
05-02-2010, 03:27 PM
He should do fine at BSU. His folly here was running for the fulltime job, all it did was distract from what he did as an interim.
He did some good things here, his work on getting the budget squared away for the next president was good and I think having somebody with his mindset was a good contrast to Chapman. Different ideas never hurt anyone.
But like I said his campaigning for the fulltime gig hurt him. If that would have never happened I think he would have been solid as an interim. I wish him luck at BSU, he is an NDSU grad after all and I am convinced he only wanted what he thought was best for NDSU. He just lacked some of the skills/qualifications that are critical for a president of a national land grant university.

BSU may be a learning experience for him, but I think he'll be able to do a decent job there.
Hanson didn't know how a university of 14,000 students was supposed to be run. In the end, I think he was just unaware of a lot of things. I don't think he was purposefully trying to bring NDSU down. He just didn't know what he was supposed to know.

There's more than 13,000 people in Bemidji...It's actually growing at quite the rate. As far as fast-food goes, there is a lot more than just McDonald's, BK, etc. We have two awesome, authentic Mexican restaurants, a great Chinese place hidden downtown, an authentic Italian restaurant and pretty decent pubs where you can get burgers, etc.
Most people think the food in Bemidji sucks, but you just need to know where to go...There are a lot of hidden, off the beaten path places here and I'm happy I get the chance to eat at them.

What are the Mexican restaurants? If one of them is T Juan's, well, that sucks as well.

Tijuan's closed. Mi Rancho and La Mariachi both opened within the last nine months and they are awesome. Same family owns both and they are great people.
Chinese place is downtown...Pretty good.
Not to mention Slim's and Cattails.

I've had a lot of horrible dining experiences in Bemidji, so it's not really backlash. I've had good meals at the Peppercorn, Union Station, and Stats (think it's closed- used to be in the upper level of the strip mall where the Chinese place is downtown), and had some pretty bad meals at a lot of places including some of the worst fast-food ever.
