Not a very positive report on scholarship status of MSUM athletics. They are even worse off than I thought, at the bottom of the Northern Sun Conference.

This is a bit off topic but: Most of the Northern Sun is a joke, especially when it comes to support from students. I went to Southwest Minnesota for a year, I think I went to 3 sporting events in my time there because no one cared about it. My brother goes to school in Moorhead and I think he's been to more SDSU or NDSU football games (like 4 of them) than Dragon games.

The biggest problem, I think, when it comes to support from students at Northern Sun schools is that they are all suitcase colleges.

I will always have a spot in my heart for MSU-Moorhead football because they were the only DII college to send me a letter requesting I come play football for them (not a scholarship offer). I appreciated the offer, but had to turn them down due to how poor of shape their football program was in.

How did I know MSU-Moorhead's football program was in poor shape?... because they send me a letter requesting I come play football for them!

Obviously my reputation as the "Slowest Running Back in the Dakotas" didn't precede me...

MSUM had 271 fans attend their game against Mary last year, at the same time NDSU got 16.5K for UNI at the Dome, and we were a terrible team.

My brother goes to MSUM. I know some people who go there. Anyone who follows college sports at MSUM is almost always a Bison fan. I have taken a few classes there, so I know. I've never had any student at MSUM tell me that they follow MSUM athletics. Their facilties are identical to high school facilties as well. Their football stadium is no different from my old high school field. Their gym is just a carbon copy of every high school gym you've seen. Athletics is very low on the totem pole at MSUM. At least they have a president now who claims that she supports athletics 100 percent, but it seems to have been mostly lip service from Syzmanski.

MSUM needs to do something about its athletic department. The only other alternative is going NAIA.

The only game that draws every year was the "Crystal Sugar Bowl". I almost never missed one growing up. My dad and I would always just walk over for the game. It's a lot of local guys playing as well. I think I've been to only one or two basketball games when I was required for my team or whatever.

Why don't they just drop down to DIII? Same with Crookston. Drop those two and move up Sioux Falls.

I think Doug Peters is trying to finish off the athletic program over there. I'm not sure who he can get. Maybe this guy?

Funny thing is that he would probably jump at the chance to "move up" the coaching ladder to Moorhead.
