I think it would be a good idea to start tailgating before the Green Gold game in the spring. I saw a few die hards out there last year. Who's with me?

From an earlier post---

Talked with Simmers.
They are in the plannning stages of trying to put something together especially for Team Makers and the public.
They are going to have a Friday Night Show case---coaches. players etc. Then you have game day auctions etc.
As far as open ended tailgating is concerned it is in the discussion phase. There is a process that they have to go through. There is the anti alcohol contingent that has to be delt with.
The U is aware that there is great interest in recruiting and the spring game and what that can mean for greater attendance for the auctions etc and creating excitement for the fans going in to the coming season.
There is always the discussion of risk vs reward issues etc etc..
They are aware that the spring game has become a huge event at other institutions but NDSU is on a different playing field because of the anti alcohol faction.

As with anything that is new my advice is be patient and go with the flow at the present moment and let this grow in to something big over time. Because you cant push the nay sayers too much.( Even though I would like to kick them in ass.)
In time this will be a huge also if people will act responsibly and make it worth while for the U to stage these events.

So the good news is----they are working on it.

I'm just curious, but why can't you tailgate WITHOUT alcohol?? I realize to many these go hand in hand, but I don't see why it has to. Or is tailgating just another event to get drunk at?

Yep,Tailgating and softball are basically just another way for people to get drunk... personally I don't drink just has fun partying sober before the game, and yes I think I am in the .000001% of student at NDSU that don't drink haha

Throwing all tailgating into the "drunk" catagory is wrong. I know my group and I like to have a few but drinking to get drunk is not what we do.

It's a social event. It's fun. Unless drinking is causing problems why wouldn't it be allowed?

stevdock

I agree people should have the option to drink even though my family and I do not. But you need to act responsibily or it should be taken away.

Perfect example of this happened last year to my 5 year old son. He hasn't missed a home game the last 4 years. He got showered with alcohol by someone who brought it into the game (we didn't see it until it was too late) and then was too drunk to stand while holding onto it. There's stories like that all over the place, especially before tailgating was allowed. But as someone who doesn't drink, I don't need to see or experience this crap. I'm there to cheer on the team and enjoy the game with my family.

Like I said though, if you can act responsibily then I have no problem with it. If you can't, then I'm all for taking it away.

Yea you're right majority of people that tailgate are pretty responsible, and I have no problems with others having a couple beers, but like always there are some that go a little over board. Personally I don't drink, but I don't know why they want to get rid of it before the game. Grilling while having a beer just goes along with the game. Its all apart of the atmosphere.

If so, I would argue that those few people who ruin the neo-temperance movement by being totalitarian about it should be banned from not drinking at tailgating in the hopes that their sphincters loosen up to the point that the sticks they and, to a certain extent, those around them, have been suffering from can drop out naturally. :)

If a person just wanted to get drunk, there would still be bars open out there.

Remember the fantastic atmosphere there was tailgating back before beer was allowed? That said, open up a teetotaler tailgating lot and see how the market responds. It might do better than expected.

Exactly. And just because you are extremely intoxicated, you don't have to be an asshat. I like, ok I love to drink, especially outside while tailgating(honestly about the only time I REALLY drink), but I have never been kicked out, or even had an issue. You can definitely drink a lot without causing a problem.

Ok, days from the spring game and no decision on tailgating, so back to what I was told a year ago. something very close to this " you can tailgate all you want for any NDSU event, alcohol involved however is at your own risk" In other words I really do want to be the one that is made the example of. I do not need alcohol to tailgate, but what irks me is that a decision cannot be made to allow full fledged tailgating or not. I think NDSU is missing out on a big opportunity for Team maker fundraising, If your hand is out wanting money, than at least give a little bang for your buck. Overthinking things at it's best again as far as im concerned. If I missed the BIG announcement on tailgating then please disregard this post, then direct me where I missed it.

Tailgated the last 3 spring games, about the only ones doing so, and was not a "drunk fest" Why in the world cant someone make a decision, it will do no good for one person to call that wants to tailgate, they will tell you that you can, they are missing the boat, and good money to boot, I think alot of people would dust their rigs off to come out to a sanctioned event. You are preaching to the choir. Ive made a couple of phone calls in this regard. More need to do so. They arent going to do shit if Im the only one who calls.
They already know that there is interest in this. BUT---as I posted earlier there is a process they have to go through. The process will grind to a halt unless there is a concerted effort to bring this about. Its not going to happen by somebody waving a magic wand just because some people want to do it.

People need to swamp Team makers and the AD with phone calls and email and say exactly what you just did. Its the only way its going to happen in a timely manner.

Easy solution...don't stop. There is no reason a college student can't party non stop for two days. Kids these days. :D

I made it to the Iowa Hawkeye's spring game last Saturday. They did allow tailgating but no booze. They follow similar protocol to NDSU where they waive the dry campus rule on game days. The enforcements were out and even in a cup we had to dump the beer out.
However, if you get crafty enough and don't make too big of a scene I'm sure you'll be fine.

1. Can we bring alcohol?

2. How many bison rigs can we expect in the west lot? :D

3. I don't see why this can't become an event like tailgating during the regular season.

4. Will there be 100% chance of Thunder?

After this weekend, there is definitely a huge anti tailgate force at NDSU. I have no idea who or what is behind it, but there was definite concern about even the suggestion of any tailgating for the spring game, t shirts that were sold by others because NDSU would not allow them to be sold in the bookstore because of the words tailgate on them.

Anyway, I love the new 10 X 20 Bison Flag that was up at the tailgating.
