Wow the Jacks suck.
The Jackrabbits are 1-11-1 overall and 0-5 in the WWC and have lost five straight duals. The squad is led by senior Tyler Sorenson at 197 pounds. Sorenson is No. 27 in the latest edition of the NCAA Coaches Panel rankings and has an overall record of 25-5.

This was supposed to be the year that the Jacks made a go at it in wrestling, but suffered alot of setbacks with injuries and such and now are left with a pretty poor team. We do have three wrestlers that are pretty tough though.

125 Fr Aaron Pickrel 21-11
141 So Dustin Walraven 19-11
197 Sr Tyler Sorenson 25-5

Who are the top 3 wrestlers for NDSU? Just wanted to see what the best match-up will be.

Just did some checking and saw that NDSU's top 2 wrestlers are at 125 & 141 so those might be some good matches to look forward to. NDSU should be favored in both matches but hopefully the SDSU kids will put up a good fight.

Even with the forfeit at 133, the Bison should have no problem with the Jacks.

If these guys stay with the program, the next few yrs should be very good for the Bison.

......still waiting for our 1st All-American in wrestling......

Quite the upset.

This proves that the best team doesn't always win, even when the better team has the home court (mat) advantage. Congrats to my Jacks!

Sorry I didn't post the final. I was sooooooooo disgusted by what I saw on the mat I couldn't without throwing the BB across the BSA. That was terrible. Our hwt didn't even try against an 0-6 wrestler. He looked lost (coaching) out there. Grrrr..........

WOW......

I thought the Jacks would score only 9-12 points with the forfeit and Sorenson......wow!!!!

Best team lost...but you have to go out and prove it.

Consistency....not our trademark.

Too bad the Bison could not get the Lehman kid from WF, he is one of the best 189 lbs in the nation......going to the Gophers.

Glasser from Bismarck is ranked #8 with the Gophers at 174.....he would have been a great get for the Bison.

IMO, to bad we cannot get the best kids from ND.

The Mellmer brothers from Dickinson would have been very good Bison wrestlers...at least they would have been starters here instead of perennial back-ups for the Gophers. Even Travis Lang from Bismarck was a Gopher starter at 125 then got beat out and transfered to Augsburg......he would have been a 4 yr starter here and national qualifier and potential All-American.

We cannot get them all but why not go to a school that you can be the 'big fish' and qualify for the national tourney instead of being a back-up at one of the best wrestling schools in the nation. With colleges cutting wrestling programs, CalState-Bakersfield now, wrestlers have less college opportunity now.

Bison can be a Boise State or Central Michigan in wrestling, ie, having a top 10 team every few yrs. There are many very good wrestlers in ND/MN/MT/SD. Hopefully the Bison are on their way to this.

...although losing to a very poor Jacks team is unacceptable

onbison09, what do you think?......you post here pretty consistently.

I don't seem any reason why we can't be a Boise State. Those programs will never win a team national title probably but they always have a few guys in contention. They're are a ton of good kids in Montana and maybe we could establish a pipeline of sorts to California like softball has. The thing about those top tier schools is everyone in the room is good. So you may think you will get lots of mat time when you leave HS because you're used to dominating everyone but once you get to an Iowa, all bets are off. That being said, it's really tough for a kid to turn down an Iowa.

You have to remember 2 years ago the Bison got the 2 best recruits from ND in Solberg and Johnson and both are having good years. I see a lot of improvement from this team and a lot returning next year. Supposedly Monk is going to be a hammer next year and Sprenkle will be back opening a lot of eyes.
