Im guessing a walkon that becomes a starter eventually earns scholarship right?

Jon Dahl was really good.

Here's another one: QB Ryan Johnson made Babich's offense go after Feeney graduated (in fact, I think he had to play as true freshman.)

Dirk Kroeze D. Tackle from Lake of the Woods High School in Minnesota. Dirk slept in his truck for a couple of days during fall practice when he was a freshman. Went on to become an All-American in 1979.. He was 6-1 and maybe 225 lbs.

Good story! I can't believe that I never heard of him.

Lots of great stories aboout Dirk. The correct pronunciation to his name was Crews/Cruise. But his D-Line coach (Steve Armstrong) preferred Crazy instead. So Dirk Kroeze becamy known as Crazy

I remember hearing this story from George Ellis when I was a GA...Great rags to riches tale.

I walked onto the team last year, you guys might have missed it. Stuck in at WR behind Holloway and Williams, I think I had around 80-90 catches for something like 1,900 yards. I got stopped at the endzone every catch though, so zero TDs, which is probably why no one mentioned it.

I wonder what he is doing today.

Didn't know he was a walk-on. One of the all-time greats.
