Small-town girl Whitney Carlson finds big-time success at NDSU

When Whitney Carlson answers the question, “Where are you from?” her response reads like a map of central North Dakota. She said it’s easiest to say she’s from Jamestown, but she actually grew up on a farm north of Windsor, N.D. With a population of about 10, Windsor isn’t well-known, she explained. She attended high school at Pingree-Buchanan, towns with populations of approximately 60 people. Most people still don’t know where those tiny towns are, so Carlson will offer up Carrington (pop. 2,000 ), where she ran track. Now that she’s a track and field athlete for NDSU, Carlson has an easier time explaining where she currently lives, though she never forgets where she grew up and the experiences of her younger years.
