Latest on Pat's week from ESPN's live blog

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft10/news/story?id=4845041

North Dakota State RB Pat Paschall. He's had an up-and-down week and just want to see a little more from him. He's showed good quickness, but want to see him make some plays.

Come on Pat--get after it!!!

Heres what I found at this site (have to scroll way down to get to day 3 comments):
http://boards.chicagobears.com/forum...d/2030326.aspx (http://boards.chicagobears.com/forums/thread/2030326.aspx)

Pat Paschall (North Dakota State) was finally wearing the correct helmet today and he looked fantastic! Paschall is great in open space, but really looked good between the tackles today. He stayed low when going through the hole, and would wait until he was in the second level before bouncing it outside. He sees the field well, and had a great cutback run that would have been at least a 40-yard touchdown. The West squad was using him effectively on outside pitch plays, but he was also grinding out tough yards inside. He would keep his feet moving after contact, and has a great stutter step before changing direction. Paschall doesn’t lose much speed when changing direction, and had a spin move he used inside the hole at the line of scrimmage to gain 4-yards on what should have been a loss of 2.

Sounds like Paschall is breaking some ankles.

ESPN's Todd McShay mentioned Paschall when talking about a Linebacker that didn't perform well.

[i]Davis just didn't look natural. He was very stiff in space and he struggled with any sudden change of direction. For example, in the first team period, he went to corral North Dakota State RB Patrick Paschall on the outside, but Paschall cut back inside and Davis was unable to recover, lost his balance and nearly fell to the ground.[i/]

Go Pat Go! Doesn't take big hits, good ball security, decent speed, good quickness and can get yac. What more could they want other than more weight.

Pat Paschall/RB/North Dakota State: Paschall was the top small-school prospect on the field during the week and one of the best ball carriers. He's a smooth back with a gliding style, but also displays plenty of toughness when running inside. More than anything else Paschall proved all week he belonged on the field with players from bigger schools.

I wanted to see him make some plays in Brookings. He never got to play there. Injured in 2007...suspended in 2009. Sad

Patriots,

1. Pat Paschall to the Pat's...golden.
2. They need a rb, but are always looking for a sleeper in late rounds.
3. Work ethic/all around player that Bellichick looks for.
4. Because it would fulfill murphys law of a player i like going to a team i hate.

That's not what he said at all. He simply said he tries to bounce it outside too much because he's used to being able to get the corner, but the NFL has a lot more speed so he has to just take his yards up the hole. I realize that sounds the same, but it's completely different. It's about instincts/habits, not ability.

From the ESPN Blog:

No dancing allowed
North Dakota State PatPaschall is doing a better job of not dancing around and just hitting the hole. During practices this week, we saw him being a little more hesitant and missing holes. Today he's showing nice patience. He's reading his blocks, getting upfield quickly and picking up the tough 3- and 4-yard gains. Another thing we noticed ealier this week was him bouncing around and trying to hit the home run. It's good to see him being patient and picking up the tough yards.

Good info. Is it possible that Pat was trying too hard to 'impress' during the week? I can't remember...did he bounce around a lot for the Bison? Seems like I remember him being mostly a downhill runner...hit the hole hard...etc. Could be wrong.

I believe the announcer was referring to the fact that he tries to bounce everything a little more than he should, as was discussed earlier in the thread. He didn't say he had to run between the tackles, but I interpreted it that he needs to learn how to do it more effectively. I could be wrong, but that's what I thought.

Exactly how I took it. The way it was worded definitely suggested that. I think the words were something like "at his level he got used to being able to bounce it outside if he wanted and he got it, but in the NFL he is going to have to just run inside the tackles" aka he can't always bounce it outside, sometimes you need to take the 3 yard gains up the gut.

I took it the same way also.
What has impressed me more than anything with Pat is his 2cnd and 3rd even 4th effort after contact. You dont often see runners keep their wheels moving that long.

Which is what he mostly does...and did today. He's always been the kind of back that simply wants to get to the first down marker. Either way, it's not worth arguing about.

Matthew Barrows, of the Sacramento Bee, reports the San Francisco 49ers could look to add a running back who can complement RB Frank Gore in the NFL Draft.

Our view: They selected Glenn Coffee out of Alabama in the third-round of the 2009 NFL Draft, and he looked good in the preseason. However, when the regular season rolled around he didn't produce when given an opportunity. The team will likely add more depth at the RB position in the draft this year, but they will not select a RB with a premium pick. According to Barrows, North Dakota State RB Pat Paschall is one of the players the team was watching with interest at the East/West Shrine Game in Orlando.

Something kind of interesting.

that is interesting. Teaming Pat up with Coach Singletary, an old school guy who would rather run the ball then through it, backing up an injury prone and aging Gore in a defensive weak division. Could be good news for Pat.

In addition to when he was on the field Pats NDSU helmet was in many shots of the sidelines yesterday. He was shown congratulating a teammate on a couple occasions, and in a few shots from the back where he was close and you could easily read his name and see the helmet. He did a little pimpin for NDSU once when the camera was moving down the bench and Pat quick sat down at the end holding his helmet and pointing to it. Really like Pats attitude and hope he is successful in the NFL.

East-West Shrine Game: Pat Paschall (North Dakota State) had some nice runs between the tackles today. His game is best suited in space, but Paschall would lower his head and try to get yards inside. He would keep his feet moving after contact, and even had a run where he was able to break a tackle then bounce it outside for a big gain. He’s decent as a receiver, but not a natural hands catcher. He’s got speed, cutback ability, and the quickness to get to the edge. –

It seems to be looking like Paschall's chances of getting drafted are getting better and better. Paschall proved himself in the East/West Shrine game being the leading rusher in that game. Plus Paschall was the best FCS running back last year so there are a lot of NFL scouts probably looking and scouting him.

Here is a write up about rising prospects after the Shrine Game by jbscouting.

RB PAT PASCHALL, NORTH DAKOTA STATE

Paschall entered the season as an unknown player as he did not start during his junior campaign but finished his career as a first team All-American and was invited to the NFL Scouting Combine. He finished the game with 28 yards on seven carries and one catch for eight yards in the game. His leg strength, burst, speed, and running style have made him a draftable prospect
