Hey, I'd say that we were in the top 30 since NDSU tied with Iowa.

1,332 per game. Only 5 fans per game from...

I agree just rock solid support all the way around. Much to be proud of for the coaches, players and fans.

I think they don't have football so that helps there attendance, but UNI is really impressive also! I feel good. I know I made a difference in those attendance numbers!!!

I don't know why Wichita State doesn't have football. Ticket and suite sales would pay for the program by itself. I mean, they're a state university, right?? They fill their 11,000 seat arena for every basketball game, they get several thousand per baseball game and 3,000 per volleyball game, and they have no football?? WTF

Not really being privy to Wichita State's athletic situation, I do know that in years past quite a number of colleges and universities with outstanding men's basketball programs once had some pretty good football programs as well, but for whatever reason decided to opt out of football and concentrate more on men's basketball, among them Wichita State, Denver, Marquette, St. Louis U., Detroit, Chicago Loyola, DePaul and the like. Back in the 1920s and 1930s and thereabouts UND played a number of these football programs regularly and on the whole fared fairly well against them. I also believe Wichita State is one of the last truly northern schools to win the Division I men's NCAA baseball national championship. Southern schools have tended to predominate recently.

WSU's program was wiped out by a terrible plane crash in 1970 in Colorado.

Thanks, Shawn-O. I had forgotten about that plane crash. What a horrible way for a program to end. I remember Marshall University's football team crashing, but I had forgotten about the Wichita State incident. Also, in view of the earthquake in Haiti, one never knows, does one? Just goes to show in part where one's priorities should be placed in life. Thanks for the reminder, Shawn-O.

The program continued for another 16 years after the plane crash. I don't doubt that it might never have completely recovered from it, but it wasn't the primary cause. According to Wiki(take it with a grain of salt, of course, but it sounds legit), the program was cut because of poor attendance, financial red ink, NCAA recruiting violations, and the state of disrepair of Cessna Stadium. Since then, Cessna has been improved twice(1996 & 2002), mostly to make it a better T&F facility. It still hosts HS football events occasionally. I also believe that WSU is in a much better state financially than it was back in 1986.

There's a rumor that WSU will only consider bringing football back if they can play at the highest level(FBS). But basketball is still the driving force of their athletic department, so they don't want to give up the MVC. There is a thought(that I share) that WSU would possibly add football if the MVC decided to become a full FBS conference. I hope it's true because it would be the best chance for NDSU to both get into a better conference and go FBS. That hope is the only reason I pay attention to anything that happens at WSU.

"Wiped out" was a poor choice of words, you're right.

Having spent time in Kansas and the Wichita, there are several reasons for no football at Wichita; UK, KSU, OU, OSU.

Has the team outgrown the BBF? The Media Guide lists capacity at 1,372.

No the BBF is perfect for the VB team, the atmosphere is fantastic and unless the team could draw 4k it just isn't worth it.

That said I am interested in seeing how VB would work in the renovated BSA, right now it would be terrible though.

Well, they must have added some seats.

Have they outgrown the BBF? Maybe, but it's one hell of a home court advantage. You can't tell me that there are many venues like that with atmosphere like that in the country.

Will the Sioux vs. Bison VB match be at the BBF as well or will it be moved to a larger venue? Does anyone know when tix go on sale?

I would hope so. The couple of games Ive been to at the BBFH the place could have used a bunch more seats just for the people who were there. I cant imagine how many didnt show up knowing that they wouldnt get a seat.

So are they going to raise the roof, or remove the scoreboard? Because the current scoreboard height in the BSA is anything but volleyball friendly.
