New Years Eve game at the BSA. Warmup at Labbys!

I'll be at the game. Everytime we play them I get this song in my head:

Sentimental Lady by Bob Welch

Sentimental gentle wind (I replace this with "Centenary Gentlemen")
Blowing through my life again
Sentimental lady
Gentle one

Someday I'll re-word the lyrics. But I don't have much time, now, do I?

This game scares the crap out of me. On paper, we have to win a game like this. They run about 14 guards at you, and we have about half of our guards even available. Felt is probably done. Medical Redshirt likely.

Are you serious about Felt? Wow, that will really hurt the Bison for the rest of the season. Whats up with all the injuries in mens basketball and football this year? First Coleman and then this......WTF?

Centenary's unconventional 4-guard high pressure style gave the Bison trouble even LAST season. We knew this would be a rebuilding year, but fate has been unkind. The off guard spot appeared to be a position where the Bison had quality depth in the preseason, but the injuries to Coleman and Felt have changed the situation dramatically. We may now find out if Drew Lundberg has anything to offer this program.

The suspension of Flowers subtracts another player from the rotation--but in this case it may be a matter of addition by subtraction for the team. I am confident that Sam Sussenguth will pull his weight. Jordan Aaberg will gain valuable experience that will pay off in the future. Andy Nagel may get some minutes now-- I doubt that he will play against Centenary's 4 guard system, but we may see him as soon as the ORU game. Nagel may not be ready and I won't give up on him either way.

Vaughn, Tveidt, Carlson, and even Pennick will have to play huge minutes the rest of the season. Vaughn, Tveidt, and AP have already struggled with injuries and Carlson was showing clear signs of fatigue before Christmas. The coaching staff will really earn their money over the next three months.

You make a good point about Austin. The Gents have always been very quick and athletic and they are tough for us to match up against. We need Pennick's speed to slow them down. On offense we need to slow it down by working down low to Sam and Jordan. Flowers would have been nice to have, but Nagel size could work in this situation.

Seen Josh Vaughn at his high school alumni game right before Christmas. Said he tweaked (re-tweaked) his ankle during the Wichita State game. He semed to be favoring it quite a bit. Didn't participate in the alumni game, thankfully. Is he good to go?

We NEED to win tonight. There will be a beat down in Brookings tonight and I am afraid to say, one in Fargo on Saturday. I have been saying it all year, with the addition of juco transfer Crion (spelling) ORU is my favorite to win the conference. ;)

We play ball on there regularly during the week. We lost the last game and I'd like to attribute the loss to the quality of the floor. It has nothing to do with my lack of speed or skill :D. ;)

Watching the game tonight I keep thinking we have 10 players dressed and one is red-shirted and the other (nagel) is not in the rotation. Three players off the bench and they may be freshmen. There is just no help and deep into conference we are going to be hurting from a lack of depth. You can't take Coleman, Flowers, and Felt off of this team and expect a successfull season. That being said the coaches and team get alot out of the limited roster.

Just to answer an earlier post by TheBisonator that Pennick was non existant. He held Perez who was averaging 20 to 2. Probably his best as a Bison. We were all hoping to see Nagel. Looked good with the nice lay in at the end. Second half could have been as good as we've played all year. Great crowd... Roadwarrior, Lakes, BISON, Mr. Burgandy, SlickVic and could be others.

Great team performance last night. Great to see other kids step up. Lundberg hit a big three and was efficient running the point. AP played his best game. Tveidt was nothing short of spectacular. Carlson isn't finishing lately, but still plays harder than anyone and attacks the rim. Fun to watch this very young team. Hopefully the crowd, students and bad are back on Saturday night against ORU. One of the feature home games, you would think some students would come back to campus for it.

How about Zastrow? Four assists and zero turnovers. His court vision is great, that pass he hit Aaberg with that set up a dunk was beautiful. His defense is still a work in progress but he is going to be a very solid pg for us.

This was the Mike Tveidt we all hoped to see this year. Pennick played better than I would have thought possible. I think the staff made the right call last night to go with a more defensive oriented perimeter of AP and JV. Zastrow is coming along nicely, but he will benefit from having the coaches pick the situations and matchups where he can succeed. Pennick has the athletic ability to be able to compete physically with almost anyone but he doesn't have Zastrow's basketball sense.

So both Lundberg and Pennick are wearing the facemask. Are these guys prone to broken noses, or is there something else going on? Less than one-tenth of one percent of all college and NBA players ever wear a facemask. Some because they busted their cheekbone. I always thought these things were temporary. Like you wear them for 4 to 6 weeks, not the entire season. Legit question. Thanks!

I saw the play clearly, the Centenary players saw their player get off the bench and head for the scorers table to check in. The problem for them was that they did not see the referee hand the ball to the NDSU player which means the Centenary player could not check in to the game. Tweidt broke for the basket and found himself absolutely by himself because the Centenary players were looking at the scorers table. Dunk score the 2!!

Saul seriously needs to give Aaberg some more minutes. Yes, he started, but IMO he is our best big. Goose plays well too especially on defense, but actually had some poor rotations that were costly 2/3 pt plays. When Aaberg was in he was just destroying the Gents around the basket. Glad we didn't have to watch Flowers lumber up and down the court with his usual lack of energy.

It will be fun to watch Carlson, Bjorkland, Nagel and Aaberg play the post for years. You simply don't question their effort. Flowers, well...you just couldn't depend on him. He has the ability, that is the sad thing. Play Aaberg as much as possible!

With Wright and Bjorkland coming online next fall (I assume both play as true fresh), that could make for some interesting starting lineups, especially by mid-season when the young guys start to get their game going.

PG - Coleman
SG - Tveidt
SF - Carlson
PF - Bjorkland
C - Aaberg

That is a BIG lineup, and possible because Tveidt can guard the 2. Or throw in another guard like Zastrow and have Bjorkland/Wright come off the bench. Rotate in Felt and Braun....
This team is just too exciting to think about in another year or two. Land that stud PG Saul and we be dancing every year!

unbison and I have talked alot about Marcus Williams, we are both clearly leading his fan club, in both sports. If he indeed does come to hoops after football, it will be huge. Doesn't cost Saul a dime and he can come in and defend like nobody else. They are still VERY much in the mix for Jay Harris at the PG spot. If that does come true, we are nuts. Jay Harris puts the cap on this team. He is the guy who makes all of the bigs get to the dance. Special talent.
