This kid is one of Bisonhusker's favorites. My guess is that he will be a db. Most importantly, he is an athlete and a good football player. I believe he was also offered by SDSU.

When Kermit sent me a text telling me got Dudzik last night, I literally said Merry Christmas to myself and had another drink of a special Crown/Coke. My buddies down in the Omaha area think this kid is the real deal. I have been hoping for this kid for months. He is being recruited as a safety. One tough and smart kid.

1st Team Super State out of Nebraska.

Merry Christmas to me. Hinz, Emanuel, and Dudzik out of Nebraska in this class. Not a bad haul. Maybe the parents can car pool up I-29.

How do you not get excited about this kid. From his coach, a former Nebraska QB.

From coach Matt Turman:

* He's obviously a big fan. Says the kid is fast and quick. Expects him to be a contender to win the 100 meter dash title in track this spring. Says his speed and change of direction are unbelievable (interesting since I was sounding off about Bison defenders change of direction in a recent post). Says he's been timed at low 4.5 electronically in the 40 yard dash.

* Says he's a legit 5-11, 185 pounds. Says he (Matt) played QB at Nebraska and that kids like Christian are the kind of players they had when he played for the Huskers. Says if Christian was 2 inches taller and 10 pounds heavier he would be on full ride at Nebraska.

* Says as a QB, he passed for 1900 yards, ran for 1000 with 22 TD passes and 3 INT.

* Says he was named "captain" of the Class B all-state team - as a testament to his leadership skills.

* Says he was a fantastic punt and kick returner and that he's an absolute "film junkie" in preparing for the opponent

This is the kind of kid we need to build our program around. Bring in good solid athletes who are good kids, redshirt them, and then let the positions sort themselves out over their best 4 years of football. Sprinkle in an ocassional freak athlete like Roehl or Lamar Gordon and we can be a contender.

KCHerd

It should be interesting to see where he ends up playing. He would be great at DB and will return kicks, but he could also be a great WR or wildcat back that could occasionally throw a pass at anytime.

Good stuff!

Hallstrom asked a few days ago why the Bison don't recruit players in the "athlete" position. Looks like he got his question answered.

How solid is your info that he is being recruited to play safety? His video look like he would be a great Bush/Harvin type of player.

You are right.

I checked the BisonMedia blog after I posted that and found this posted by Hallstrom:

* Says coaches are telling him he could play as a true freshman on special teams, and possibly in a rotation at safety. But redshirting is also a possibility.

I'm a little surprised that a kid with Dudzik's apparent speed, quickness, and ability to change directions isn't considered a potential corner. Both spots are in need of major upgrades. The good news to me is the decison to try a great athlete first on DEFENSE. We need more athletes on D!

I think Marcus Williams is going to set up shop at one of the corner spots for 4 years. I agree with you guys that the athletes have to get on defense and we need to improve that side of the ball. Hopefully the redshirted D Lineman will be as good as advertised and make the D backs look really good.

Merry Christmas

We need playmakers at Safety and this kids looks the part. Berry (TN), Chung (OR), and Earl Thomas (TX) are three "dudes" that come to mind who are playmakers at Safety in FBS. Think of Corey Lynch at App St who made some big plays. Heck, look how the Steelers and Ravens D have strugged with Troy Polamalu and Ed Reed injured.

Defending the spread requires team speed (i.e. pursuit), good open field tackling and gap discipline. Thus, Safeties need to cover and pursue...plus even without the spread, we need athletes covering good TE (think of 2008 Missouri St game with Clay Harbor)?

I would love to see both Marcus Williams and Dudzik sitting as ball-hawking safeties, as the differences between SS and FS are minimized when defending the spread.

How about a physcial corner with speed that can jam the receiver at the line of scrimmage instead of playing off 10-15yds and giving up the 6-8yd gimme pass? I sure got sick of seeing our corners play overly soft coverage. Just my opinion and I'll admit I'm no expert.

You may be right, assuming he gets academically eligible. The Bison haven't had a lot of luck with their academic risks. Danny Offerman was the latest risk that would probably have been contributing this fall had he been able to get his academics down. He couldn't.

Good luck Marcus! We need you.

I agree with Neil on this bigtime. Anytime a kid is willing to pay his own way for a year of school and get his grades in order, we should really be pulling for a kid like this. I know "unbison" has really been talking highly of him, and follows that conference pretty tightly, this kid was one of the most highly rated athletes in a long time. Basketball and football. I personally think he is going to be a gem of this class. We can only hope at this point. I will be cheering for this kid.

Good Luck Marcus! I hope you start for 4 years.

Marcus Williams, a 6-foot, 180-pounder from Minnetonka (MN) Hopkins, is one of the state's top two-sport athletes. Williams is getting recruiting interest in football and basketball and attended the Minnesota Gopher football camp, several Gopher games this fall and was a guest at Williams Arena Tuesday night. GoldenSports.Net recently caught up with Williams to learn the latest on his recruitment

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9blH6GUIZHI sick youtube.

Senior WR/DB Marcus Williams 2008
(#20) from Hopkins HS in Minnesota.
42 catches/1021 yards/10 TD's.
4 Int's (2 TD's).
16 rushes/157 yards/4 TD's (9.8 avg).

Getting good athletes is a critical part of recruiting - just having a guy on the field who can react to a play quickly on the defensive end will show itself positively. If that's Dudzik, Williams, whoever - if they're making plays and winning the Bison games then I'm all for it.

As for Mr. Dudzik, welcome to the team!

Grant Olson from Wayzata committed earlier today. Make no bones about it this is an awesome kid, one that will be a captain for the Bison down the road. Wyoming was recruiting this kid really hard and NDSU won out over the Cowboys and UND. The U of M never offered because they thought he was too short, check the schedule in two years and we will see who comes up short!

6'2'' is what I would consider "prototypical" NFL LB height. He's a little light at 225, but his 4.65 speed is OUTSTANDING for his position, especially at this level and age. This kid could be a legit star...

Here is what Olson said about himself in an interview with Hallstrom in the Bison Media Blog:

What's an accurate height/weight? closer to 6-1 than 6-2, I'm wrestling at 215 right now but cutting weight to do it. I'm 220-225.

I can see this kid being a monster at a 235 to 240 lbs in a year or two. Got to be a tough kid if he is wrestling too. Great verbal. Congratulations Bison coaches. Now lets get some good schemes on O and D, improve the special teams a bunch, and impose some discipline and ability to execute for next year. Oh yeah, find a QB leader and a defensive leader.

Agreed, 6'1'' is still a great height especially with his straight line speed. I haven't seen how fluid his hips are or anything, so that may be the only "limit" to his ability. Either way, should be another in a long line of great LB's we've been blessed with...
