Going Out On Top: Paschall looks to clinch more than FCS rushing crown

http://www.bisonillustrated.com/s.php?s=50

Entering the season finale, while the Bison have long since been eliminated from playoff contention, there will still be some intense scoreboard watching going on. The Bison are competing for a crown. Senior running back Pat Paschall currently sits atop all of FCS football as its leading rusher. With one game remaining Paschall leads all other running backs in the country, averaging 139.67 yards per game.

Catch him if you can. Only two running backs are in a position to snatch the top spot from Paschall. David Sinisi of Monmouth is two yards behind Paschall at 137.50 yards per game. Southern Illinois's Deji Karim is four yards back at 135.60 yards per game. Each plays his final game this Saturday.

Good try, Swany, but Paschall is not the leading rusher. He is #3.

There is one metric that is used to measure this: total yards.

Not true my friend. The NCAA ranks the leading rusher according to yards per game. You must meet a minimal amount of carries to be ranked. I checked with the sports info people to make sure this was correct. Check it out at the USA Today Division I FCS Football statistics page. You'll see Paschall is the top rusher in all of FCS.

My bad.

Just checked out NCAA.org (a little better resource than USA today).

At the same time, that is certainly not the figure used in the 'real world'.

Still a chance to win both... If he can go over 200 yards and hope the other guys have bad days, it's possible he could get the total yards. Also with a strong finish he could up his average to over 7 yards per carry. Roehls career best was 6.9 and he's in the NFL.

looks like YSU gives up 128.1 yds per game but only 3.5 yds/carry

Let's hope all this debate about which stat is more important is rendered obsolete anyway due to Paschall breaking several NCAA rushing records on his way to 1,120 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Paschall got 140 yards

Karim got 155 yards

Sinisi only got 62 yards.

Unless my math is off, PP won the title by a couple of yards over Karim:nod: Congrats Paschall!!!!!
