View Full Version : SIU Pre-game Event? Who's going?

Does anyone have any plans for a pre-game event in Carbondale? The NDSU Alumni Association apparently does not have one planned (at least there isn't one on the website).

I agree that a win at SIU could turn this thing around and I think I am going to try attend.

While I am no "Roadwarrior" my goal is to visit every football venue in the MVFC over the next 2-3 years. This might be the time to hit Carbondale.

I talked to the ticket office and they said sec B is the bison section and you can buy tickets at the game. 20.00. But we can also purchase GA for 15.00 and sit anywhere in the GA side. So I plan on purchasing a GA so I can get a good seat.

I'm disappointed that the Alumni Assn has no pre-game party planned for this game. Last time we had a great turnout and it was setup in their tailgating area. The tailgating area is south of the stadium.

I have GA tickets... didn't get the same info about the visitor section--was told that visitors sat in GA.

That's good to know, as I haven't bought tickets yet.

I was gonna just sit in GA. Do you remember what side the team is on?

General Admission is on the east side, which is also the visitor's sideline. The game is at 6:00 so the sun should be behind the west stands by then.

Driving from Fargo, long drive.

Uh, yeah. in that case, the shortcut doesn't exist. Better get used to I-29.

Assuming you stay somewhere close to the speed limit, allowing for traffic, etc.:
I-29 South to 435 East in KC. ~9 hrs
To I-70 East to downtown STL. ~4 hrs
To I-64 East to O'Fallon, IL ~ 1.5hr
To I-57 South to Marion, IL ~ 1hr
To Carbondale ~20 minutes.

Total time: 15-16 hours or so, depending.

To cut mileage you can take some back-ass country roads through southern Illinois, but I wouldn't. Also, there's a route through Iowa from St. Paul to St. Louis, but the speed limit's slower, and you have to route through a whole bunch of bufu Iowa.

If you're into fall colors and saving even a few more miles (at least 15).
Fargo to Mpls. (I-94)
Mpls to Madison. (I-94 and I-90)
Madison to Rockford, IL (I-90)
Rockford to Bloomington, IL (I-39)
Bloomington to Champaign (I-74)
Champaign to Marion, IL (I-57)
Marion to Carbondale (ILL route 13)

Almost 100% interstate and nearly the entire 300 miles through Wisconsin at this time of the year is really beautiful with the changing colors.

Cut another 40 miles or so and take US-51 between Bloomington, IL straight to Carbondale. A good chunk of that stretch is 4-lane.

Just a word of warning and moreso to perhaps qualify my "4-lane" claim...it's just over 200 miles between Bloomington and Carbondale (along US 51). I can only verify the the stretch between Bloomington and Decatur is 4 lane. That only gets you about 45 miles. I do know that this highway has been studied extensively for decades as IDOT has historically focused on the feasibility of making this 200+ mile stretch all 4 lane. I would never forgive myself if you take that route and are delayed by construction or combines or whatever. The safest bet is going east out of Bloomington and catching I-57 south at Champaign. I hope you're fine in whichever route that you choose.
Lastly, if you do take US 51, make sure that you follow the US 51 bypass (shared with Interstate 72) around Decatur. Decatur is a pretty good sized town and if you take business 51 straight through it....it's takes forever.

According to the satellite imagery from Google Maps, US 51 is only 4 lane through Moweaqua(20 mi south of Decatur). It's 2-lane from there to Carbondale. On the plus side, there is virtually no road construction on it right now.

Embarrased to say I can't make it this weekend as Carbondale is only about 4 hours for me. Too many kids activities this weekend. I do know one of the officials working the game though! Definitely planning to be at the Indiana State slaughter in Terre Haute. They should be much improved by then as they have a very young team with some pretty good players.

Go Bison!!
