Check out my new tailgating rig. I came up with the idea this summer and just got it skinned today at Sign-A-Rama in Fargo! If you like what you see, ask for Dutch. He does great work!

Now, here's the cool part. The front panel comes off and turns into a table and the top unfolds into side shelves. Inside is the grill and storage for the cooler, chairs, and other tailgating goodies.

If you see me at the games, feel free to stop by and check it out in person!

I have a small group, so the size is perfect. It will work fine for a group of 4-5.

I'm actually considering making these and selling them. I've always envied the big rigs with the awesome graphics, but there was nothing even remotely in my price range. I'm sure there are others out there who feel the same.

I think you're definitely on to something. I could see this being very popular among tailgator everywhere. Get some NCAA licenses, NFL you could probably sell a ton of those.

That is most impressive!!
Make sure that you keep track of the post where you state that you'd like to produce them commercially. Just in case some knucklehead tries to steal your idea. A good relationship with a patent attorney may be in your future!:)

That is the plan. We'll likely start regionally with the Vikes, the Goofs, etc (the jury is still out about accepting UND orders :D).

We need to get a catchy name, a website, and all the legal jazz in order before we can take orders. We're hoping to have them ready for the public by next season.

We're thinking of calling it "The Tackle Box". What do you think?

I'd accept the UND orders, just make sure you use the OFFICIAL school colors of PINK and green.

There are a ton of things we need to work out before we can set a price.

What is your first reaction for a price?

That thing is Awesome!!

My first guess was $400-$500, but I think you could get even more out of it after a quick google shopping search for receiver hitch storage box. The first item is $449.99 and it's a plain storage box. For a wrapped specialty item like this, I wouldn't be surprised to see it selling for another couple hundred on top of that.

Just a thought. See if Scheels would be interested in carrying them. If they do well then that would be a natural carry over to the other Scheels stores in other college towns. Of course I woulds test the waters yourself so you could show sales figures. But being with Scheels will get your product in front of alot of EYEs.

When you get up and running and expand to Chicagoland, I would like an opportunity to be your area sales rep!:)

This would be perfect for my NFL setup as we have really limited space when driving to Denver...are you building them still?

Holy old thread :)

Couple things. First, I still have the exact rig "prototype" in this thread for sale if anyone is interested. Second, my partner and I did experiment with trying to manufacture a version of this unit, but we just didn't get any interest. We got a ton of positive feedback. Almost everyone said it was a great idea, we just couldn't produce them at a reasonable price point to where customers would pull the trigger. That said, we do have enough material to assemble about 6 units shown on page two of the following thread:

http://www.bisonville.com/forum/showthread.php?19931-Custom-Bison-Tailgating-Rig-for-Sale

Since we couldn't get them to sell at list price, we are willing to pretty much sell them at cost. We would sell the units at $600 each, fully assembled with no graphics.

Now, these would not be sold through our business, so there would be no warranty and we claim no liability on the performance of the unit. Remember you may be hauling around a 20 lb propane tank basically hanging off your hitch. A rear end collision could be ugly. This was also an issue as to why we never really persued manufacturing these. The insurance company wouldn't touch us with a 20' pole. We didn't even really care about coverage cost, they simply wouldn't quote us.

That said, I use mine every Saturday and travel from Bismarck to Fargo and the unit works pefectly. I love it.

Feel free to ask any questions. I could also probably scrounge up some action shots of the larger unit.
