I was at the Gophers game, amazing atmosphere btw, listening to the Bison on our Mpls affiliate. Here's a couple pics from my cell phone, sorry about the crappy quality. Pregame band march (typical late arriving student section), the opening kickoff, then a couple of sets that were down at our end. Next time I go I'll take some better pics. We have season tix in section 101 row 12 - i think i can make it to 4 games that don't conflict with Bison home games or the SDSU road game.

At a big stadium whether it be college or pro, it always amazes me how many people are mingling around in the concourse areas (concessions/restrooms) during the heart of the game. (and I guess if I'm observing this, I must be one of them) I'm certain that makes any stadium looks like there are considerable numbers of open seats during a game.

The student section was slow in filling up, no doubt. I don't think it ever fully filled up, although it was close. Just like at the FFD, an announced sellout of 50,800 something, but not every seat was filled. I think its possible the first time getting people thru the gates may have had some bugs, or just people didn't know how long it would take. Had to walk thru a security line which was pretty long, etc. Also, despite a ton of concession areas and wide concourses, the wait for food was ridiculous, so at any given time during the game there could have been 3000+ people getting food. Also, I think for many people it was their first time seeing the stadium, so they went and walked around a lot. The people sitting next to me left for almost an hour and said they were just walking around looking at all the different stuff. (oh yeah, is there a game going on?!)

Oh yeah, one other little tidbit: we weren't 30 seconds into the game when we had people in our section complaining about people in the front of our section standing up!! you can probably see them a little bit in some of my pics. I thought we were gonna have a rumble! Security had to come over, and 2 of the standers got taken out, although they were later allowed back in. So I guess its not only the FFD that has the arguments between standing and sitting!!!

Student section was sold out ticket capacity wise, and that number of students were there. What you are forgetting is that there was bench seating and no assigned ticket numbers. If you would have had seats like the metrodome, each seat would have had a body. At the game on Saturday, there was definitely an extra one or two people per row squeezed in at the student section, which accounts for a little bit of emptiness up top.

There are always some no-shows. With general admission in the student section, the empty seats will be in the upper corners. Also, some of that may well be from crowding in the lower rows.
