If the opportunity arises they will, both of them have "it". Helps that there big boys already :P

But if they get hurt again, its a different story, they will probably seem very injury prone.

i hope they dont go 2 and out. id love to watch roehl on a roll in the nfl :D too bad jangula cant block for him. :D

BISON24

A player is still paid, but at a reduced amount then their actual contract. I believe the only way you get the full amount of your contract is if you are on the active roster.

What have they done so far in the pros to receive more recognition?? Other than Dahl (who's now starting), it's the same recognition for the most part that Darin Erstad receives now. Very possible. Being a Colts starting linebacker is like being mayor in a small town. Eventually everyone gets a chance.

The Colts have a history of cycling new linebackers every 2 or 3 years. They move up to a starting roll, do very well, become a free agent, sign a huge contract somewhere else, next guy moves up and the cycle continues. Sessions and Bracket are the studs now but I guess they'll move on when they become free agents.

Alot of times, NFL teams either designate a LB or TE as a backup fullback...For instance, Dugan will line-up in the backfield for the Vikes when Tahi isn't in the game.

Dahl was in town last night, was seen with walker and Slick ha ha.

Dahl told me he is a retricted free agent and thinks the Rams will keep him locked up, but with the uncapped salary cap in the nfl next year, anything could happen. he was in good spirits and happy to be back in fargo.

On October 12, 2009 Heckendorf was signed to the Detroit Lions' practice squad. After his contract expired following the season, he was re-signed to a future contract on January 5, 2010.

I talked to Drago at the Bison Showcase and he said he is still working out and looking for tryouts. I assume he must still have an agent.
Drago also has the new pocket sized local entertainment monthly "MagaScene" (I think that is how he spells it). Only been out for 2 or 3 months.

I watched the Seahawks vs Titan game.Cole played the whole second half.He had two passes thrown to him,one way behind from Whitehurst and the other was in double coverage by Loshman both were incomplete. He seemed to have some difficulty making and holding his blocks but all and all it looked like a good effort for a first preseason game.It looks to me that he might have shot at making this team.

LifeLongBison
08-15-2010, 01:14 PM
I watched the 2nd half of the Seahawks game.
Not to be too negative, but Kole did seem a little bit lost out there at times.
(and coaches are going to try to find any weaknesses when trying to trim down their rosters)

The dropped pass did hit both his hands and he should have hauled that one in. It was on a 3rd down and he did have a chance to pick up the first down after the catch

Then the next series he was involved in an illegal formation penalty. Not sure if it was on him or the other receiver (penalty was actually declined, so maybe it didn't really happen!)

His blocking was definitely weak from what i saw. On a draw play he looked mixed up on which guy to block, so he ended up blocking nobody. The only other couple blocks picked up by the camera weren't very impressive (but thats not why he would make the team anyway)

I assume his route running is good, but you cannot judge that with the camera not being on the receivers. And the NFL is a whole different level.

His best bet would be to make the practice squad, unless he does something spectacular in the coming weeks. He's not going to beat out many of these receivers: Houshmandzadeh, Butler, Obamanu, Branch, Martin, Golden Tate, mike williams. That's 7 guys already!

(also, JP Loshman looked pretty weak -- so he didn't make any receivers look good. Whitehurst, on the other hand, looked like he knew what he was doing out there)

I sure hope he makes the team, but his chances are very slim (unless Gus can somehow help him get in!)

If Phil Hansen did his best Ponce de Leon impersonation and found the Fountain of Youth, he would be 8.

If I was bigger, faster, stronger, and younger, I would be 9.

If there was an NFL players strike right now, there would be at least 4 more NDSU players in the show. That would be 13.

If the NFL added 40 more teams, there would be 30 more former NDSU players in the league. That would be 43.

Joe had a good showing against the Lions. He is in a 3 man rotation with DJ Williams out right now and is making the most of it. Looks to be a roster lock right now. Here is what coach McDaniels had to say about him.

On LB Joe Mays
“With D.J. (Williams) out, we were really going 3-4-2 inside with (Wesley) Woodyard, Akin (Ayodele) and Joe. We just decided to go ahead with that group early. Woodyard was playing in the kicking game and also in sub situations. So it’s nothing more than the fact that we’re going to go ahead with a three-man rotation. When D.J.’s back, maybe it will be a little different. He (Mays) is competing for that ‘mike’ spot. There’s no question that we know what he can do and what we’re doing and every rep that he has is a good opportunity for him to learn everything.”

Denver release MLB Adoyle so Mays gets even more in the mix.

Right now I would assume it's between him, Wesley Woodyard, and Worrel Williams (DJ's brother) for the other starting middle, although I think possibly Denver will look to add another ILB after roster cuts. If Jarvis Moss continues with his development, Mario Haggan will move back inside and start with DJ.

Either way I do think mays will make the team, specifically for special teams.

Joe makes the team hands down, and I think that McDaniels is high on him. But its between Woodyard and Mays for the other starting position. Joe has a lot to show this week to take the spot from Woodyard, but Worrel Williams looked lost with the bottom of the barrell guys in the 4th quarter. He has to come along quick. Joe just need to keep getting better and he has improved more and more each game. His ability to find the hole and get penetration in the backfield has made him a key player on the redzone D.

Pretty cool that the You Tube video of him scoring that TD was on HBO. They referred to him as the "You Tube sensation" a few times on the last episode. He looked huge in the reps they showed him taking at Jets camp.

Know nothing about him, other than Mario Haggan seems to be the right choice for the moment--probably because of his years of experience. But I think he's ripe for a knock-off if Joe can get out there and assert himself.

As for Woodyard, Mays started ahead of him last week, but I don't know what the coach evaluation has been since then.

He should tie up a roster spot tonight.

His spot was pretty much sealed when the cut Adoyle(sp?) last week and moved Hagan to ILB. Was pretty much a statement of confidence that Joe's run stopping ability and willingness to play special teams was enough to beat out a veteran. I think as time goes on we may see joe in some differing roles. He played some at OLB last night and proved he can blitz off the edge well. He was also in on almost every running play in the 4th quarter. He should get quite a bit of PT in the last game at Minny, have fun all you vikes fans who are going...and my wife is pumped...she gonna get herself a Mays jersey, but we are waiting to see if he changes numbers after final cuts or not.

You would think Mays would get a bunch of reps tonight as the starters rarely play much in the last preseason game. Tonight should be a huge night to show the coaches what he can do.

According to today's Denver Post, some of the starters will play "well into the first quarter." That's longer than Shanahan had them play, but Mays should still get a lot of playing time.

Joe did what he needed to do last night, which was be consistant and not miss any big plays. Some of the younger guys that were fighting for MLB spots looked horrid...Joe should have the back up spot locked up and with Hagan and DJ using a rotation and not being in there all the time Joe should see some quality PT, along with use in goal line situations. The wife is excited and waiting to find out if he's gonna keep 96 or change she wants a Mays jersey.

I sent you a message back on facebook! Joe is getting #51 back. When he was traded to Denver someone who was since cut had it. So, now that final rosters are being done, he will be #51. We almost didn't get to see him play Thursday night, as he had rolled his ankle the game before. He got to the field early and got treatment and to play. Nothing has changed about Joe! The security had to drag him off the field after the game, because all the players were long gone into the tunnel and Joe was still back giving love to all the Bison fans in the crowd that came down to say hey! ;)

Heck(Seattle)= cut
Sounds like Mays made the team if he got a new number
Schommer(Tennessee) haven't heard, sounds like he had a rough game recently but before he had been holding his own from what I understand
Dahl(St. Louis) is still fighting for a starting spot
Haven't heard anything about Humber(Indy) all preseason.

Have to remember that next week when we go down to see them play the seahawks. Our seats are in the South stands so easy access to the broncos tunnel.

On a happier note this week, Dahl is having a solid game against Arizona. He just had a nice open field tackle on Hightower for only a two yard gain.

...unfortunatley it was wiped off the books because of a holding penalty.

What number is Joe Mays for Denver...

Joe is only on Special Teams right now. He has been in on some goal line packages with 3 LBs in the middle and no safeties. But if you watch on the Kickoff team he is almost always the closest guy to the returner when the whistle is blown for touchback.
